Club Nintendo Gold & Platinum Rewards Bring Playing Cards, Posters

By Ishaan . July 7, 2012 . 1:30pm

Club Nintendo in the U.S. have announced their Gold and Platinum status rewards for the year. Here’s a list of the physical goods you can avail:

Mario-themed playing cards (Platinum):

Luigi’s Mansion, Zelda, Kid Icarus poster set (Platinum):

Original Calendar – 2013 (Gold/Platinum):

There are also downloadable rewards your Gold/Platinum status will get you. This year’s rewards are:

Super Mario Kart (Wii Virtual Console)

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask (Wii Virtual Console)

Metroid II: Return of Samus (3DS Virtual Console)

Mario vs. DK: Minis March Again! (DSiWare, only redeemable on a 3DS)

Note that like all Gold/Platinum rewards, you can only avail one of these.

  • I’m still sad that I missed out on the ONE good prize (the statue) and every year since, I tell myself that something just as awesome will come out… I’m still waiting :( The quality has gone down ever since… These aren’t even special prizes anymore, they are on par with things you can cash your points towards…

…I’m still waiting for soundtracks and Kid Icarus cards to be added :/

    • Seijien

I’ve gotten the statue and the pins. I actually like the pins more.

    • MrSirFeatherFang

Dude same here! I’ve only missed the statue :(

    • Aoshi00

Me too, I felt awful I missed the awesome Mario & co. statue, as that seems to be the best one for the US yet (and don’t feel like buying on ebay), and there was the Mario hat.. I only got the calendar and pins afterwards..

Was wondering what Platinum award they would announce for this year (like Jpn’s 8-bit Mario cushion), can’t help but feel this is pretty lame and disappointing (I know it’s free and all).. The posters are just the covers for the games..  guess I’d pick the deck of playing cards..

Good thing we got the Mario/Luigi 3DS pouches Jpn got, and the 3DS cartridge case, even for a limited time.. but Platinum prizes should be better and more special than the regular ones..

Well, keep on saving coins and hopefully they have something better next year.. to be honest, I’m quite tired of filling out those dang surveys lol..

  • Seijien

I already ordered the playing cards. They’re the obvious choice here, unless you really want to waste your Platinum Status on things that are already available for coins (or an ambassador game? Really?)

    • SoulEater98

Metroid 2 is not an ambassador game, the first one is.

      • Seijien

Which makes it even less enticing. You can buy it for a few bucks on the eShop. It’s worthless.

  • LunarKnite

I got the pins last year, but these cards look pretty awesome. Maybe I’m just that much of a Nintendo fan that I appreciate the sentiment of them giving out what their company used to sell (playing cards) that I really enjoy this over the pins. I think only the hat tops it.

    • AJ

I got the hanafuda cards a while back. My wife and I have been learning to play Koi Koi and really enjoying it. There is another Korean game called Go Stop which is similar, but also enjoyable. Well worth 800 coins.

I am thinking about the cards, but it would be SO COOL if they were the hanafuda/French style combo decks.

  • MrSirFeatherFang

Well, I got the posters. I mean, if I got the cards, I would’ve stored it away or something. With the posters, I don’t necessarily have to use them, as they hang on a wall

  • Xapth

I would have had enough coins for Platinum but by the time customer support cleared up my coin issuance problem, it was too late, and the coins were added to this year’s queue instead. I ended up having to settle for the calendar… darn those beautiful cards.

I hope there’s another special 3DS campaign this year, like Japan and AU had last year. I’d love a 3DS that looks like Mario’s overalls.

  • Carlito Cabada Jr

I got the cards. Not going to use them, so I’ll probably put them in a frame.

  • kool_cid414

Wanted the posters, but got the calender. Se la moon I guess..

  • yalissa

Trying to choose between the Posters or the Calendar. But if I get the posters, I’m going to have to buy 6 frames because I haven’t framed my 25th Anniversary LOZ Posters yet… Ugh… But that calendar is really nice too… But the posters are really nice too! But they’re both REALLY NICE!

    WHY CAN’T I JUST GET BOTH? щ(ಠ益ಠщ)

    • Zonic505

Consider this: The calender will kind of be pointless once the year’s up, but the posters will last much longer than that if taken care of.

  • Does anyone know how big the posters are? I want the poster set but not if they’re the half-size kind. >_< (I only want it for the Kid Icarus poster, since I already have the Zelda 25th Anniversary set and I don't really care about Luigi's Mansion :P).

Eh, I got Majora’s Mask. It’s my favorite 3D Zelda game and I have no other way to play it since I lost the N64 cartridge years ago.

  • Nyandroid

You know. This is my first year with club nintendo, and seeing that statue as one of the old prizes, I was really looking forward to this! Now that Ive seen what they got this year, I just feel let down uwu~

And wait… Im platinum and I cant even choose the posters or any of the games!? Now Im even more unimpressed!! >A<~

    • Aoshi00

Very disappointing indeed compared to the past prizes.. the legendary statue which I missed too was really something :(… Jpn gets 8-bit Mario cushion, soundtracks, etc.. well, I hear Europe got it worst..

I was deciding btwn the 2, but I don’t feel like hanging up these posters, so I’d settle for the cards I guess..

      • Zero_Destiny

I was stuck between the poster set and the cards as well. I thought well maybe I’ll just go the digital route and get a game to download but I was disappointed with what they had to offer. If they had offered maybe some games that I can’t get any other way then I might of been excited.

But they pretty much just offered games I already had and could easily just get off of the eShop or Wiiware anyways. To me that kinda felt like a big slap in the face. Would of been great to see see some sort rare gem brought back just for the loyal fans to enjoy (or even just give us a chance to download a cool game a couple months before it comes out on eShop) but instead you get just what anyone else could get. So that turned me off to the whole game download option, really.

Now  I already got some nice posters from Club Nintendo, actually and I love them; they were great. While I thought the Kid Icarus poster was cool I figured well really, do I really want three more posters? I don’t have that kind of wall-space. lol  So yeah the poster reward I decided against since well it would be kinda ridiculous to have too many posters.

I got the cards, they look nice, but not all that amazing though and I don’t see myself playing with them since well they are a collector’s item. But hey they’re still nice. This is my first year doing club Nintendo and I feel mixed about it. Sadly I don’t see myself going platinum next year since a big factor that got me this high was that I bought my 3DS console this year.

The rewards were actually pretty nice, I like the case I got for my 3DS games, and the Zelda posters but this bonus reward for hitting platinum did feel kinda hollow. Over all after trying Club Nintendo out now, I feel mixed about it. I’m glad to be getting free stuff but I dunno it feels kinda like my chain was yanked a bit in the process.

  • Zonic505

Well, 4th year in a row that I’ve been platinum. I decided on the cards. Not the best reward (that goes to that awesome statue from the 2nd year), but I think they’re better than last year’s pins. Plus I might actually use them from time to time.

I was really hoping since Japan also got the pins last year as their reward, we would’ve gotten that 8-bit Mario pillow they got.

  • komiko12

The cards are visually ugly for playing cards.
They are unappealing to use in card games.

  • Haven’t bothered with Club Nintendo since I got my statue and it looks like I have no reason to.

  • Rollersnake

Man, if I’d gotten platinum this year I’d be really pissed off right now.  The posters are nothing special and those cards are downright ugly.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Ummm guys,……. as i am Platinum now but staying outside of U.S, i can’t get any of those thing there as they won’t ship to Asia here.T_T

So how can i at least get my the download game award there?(If anyone does want the things there, i can just change my Nintendo Club adress to your guys adress lol and then i will go and randomly choose city again.^^)

    • You can get your downloadable game reward anyway. They’ll e-mail you a download code to input in the eShop. At least, that’s how it works for the regular monthly downloadable rewards.

edit: Oh wait, I see what you mean. You have to fill in an address. Use NOA’s address then? :P

      • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

But….. i don’t have any U.S address there lol.^^ So if i just choose to take the platinum award there, the gift will just be send to some random house lol.^^

And about the downloadable game there, should i take the choose the physical product first? Then they will allow me to get the DL game? As i can’t find the DL game at all on the Nintendo club.

        • Aoshi00

If you just want the d/lable games, then you could register w/ US Club Nintendo w/ a valid US address, and they would e-mail you the codes for the games.  As long as you don’t redeem the physical stuff, since it would be shipped to that address like you said.  If you want, you could use mine or something.  My PSN and 360 IDs are Aoshi00 :)

          • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Well i do have my Nintendo club id now.^^ But i just wonder if anyone wanted to get the physical reward here.^^ As i feel that it will be kinda waste if i let use some random house only to get the DL reward.^^

          • Aoshi00

Okey, if you need help feel free to let me know :)  It’s definitely a waste to have the games and save so many coins yet cannot redeem the prizes.. same for me w/ the Jpn games… maybe I should just register w/ Club Nintendo Japan using some agent’s address (actually I registered but it’s a fake Jpn address right now lol.. I just chked, most of my Jpn DS/Wii games’ points have expired too, doh! the 3DS games and system ones are still good..)

  • Leanaa

Are the downloadable rewards for Platinum members only? I’m a Gold member and when I try to click on ‘see elite gifts’, it tells me that my gift has already been redeemed.

    • No, the downloadable rewards should be for both Gold/Platinum members. I’m not sure what the matter could be in your case, unfortunately. Write in to NOA support to ask, perhaps?

  • DemonicX

These prizes aren’t exactly appealing, NoA..
Would be nice if Nintendo allowed you to hold on to your coins for a good prize.

Why does Japan only get the good prizes? >_<

  • Barrylocke89

For me it’s either going to be the calender or Majora’s Mask. That’s the price of only being a gold member.

    • Symbol de Au

Majora’s mask. I got the calendar last year. It’s tiny and it doesn’t go on your wall it’s just a little stand.

  • The reward didn’t really impress me but I chose the poster set.I can’t really complain since this is free stuff…

  • Lord Highawesomeparty

Is anyone else having trouble getting onto their website? I’ve tried getting on and it has said they’re undergoing maintenance ever since this was announced.

  • Visa Vang

I got the playing cards because I’m sure I can find some other solution to game-poster-calenders somewhere else.

  • TheSquishyTanker

I already have the Animal Crossing playing cards, so I chose the posters.

  • Helepythia

In my world, Luigi gets to be on the K, and Mario can be on the J.

  • kawaiiobsession

These “rewards” just suck. We go from a statue to pins to…paper cards?? What next year, a cut-out paper Mario doll??
…And the down loadable games are something anyone can buy anytime.
It’s fine for the people who had the games and just redeemed points, but for the people who got games they would not have normally gotten in case there was another statue type prize? Screwed.

  • yeah, this year the prizes are not that exciting :l
