Atlus have released a new trailer for Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers via the Nintendo eShop in Japan. It shows off bits of footage from various dungeons, cutscenes and battles, and you can watch it below:

Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers has a bit of new content on the 3DS, including 30 new demons to summon. It also has full voice-acting. The game will be released on August 30th in Japan. Atlus USA haven’t confirmed a U.S. release yet.

Wait in this game is your party demons or humans or a mix?

    • Chris Downes

It’s a mix of humans and demons, sort of. I guess Nemissa counts as both XP

    • LightZero

Hero and heroine plus 4 demons just like SMT1 and SMT2.

      • No other team mates? D:

        • malek86

No, it’s two humans and four demons, like most SMT games of old.

Also, don’t expect to have four demons out all the time. You’ll need magnetite to keep them alive. Lots of it. And to summon them too.

  • Blesmi

God I just love that song, it’s so good.

  • Chris Downes

Oh this game looks so awesome! Even though I’m getting gemini’s translation, not the remake, it still looks awesome. The loyalty system in this game is very interesting! I can’t wait until the psx translation is out :D

    • Wow, I can’t believe they’re still translating the game now that this has been announced. Any fan-translator worth his salt would cease work immediately once an official localization is announced to be underway.

      • PhalanxLord

Technically a localization hasn’t been announced yet, just a remake in Japan. Odds are Atlus will bring over this and EP, but nothing is ever guaranteed. They never brought over the first Devil Summoner game when it was ported to the PSP (though from what I hear it was ported really badly) for example.

        • I think it’s a given that this game will be coming over. The reason Devil Summoner didn’t make it over on PSP is because of Sony, I believe, not because Atlus didn’t want to do it.

          • cj_iwakura

The generally accepted reason is because the source code was lost.

      • Chris Downes

Well why not? Some people don’t have the money for a 3DS, and some people who just don’t want a 3DS just for this could get the psx translation. It’s not worth getting a 3DS just for one game, right? But it’s also almost finished, and it’s been worked on for years so why give up on something you’ve been working so very hard on. Besides I guess some people might want some kind of nostalgia feeling to it, or just want the psx version? But it’s mostly the fact it’s all that hard work put into it that they won’t cancel it. You see what I’m saying? :P

        • Let’s be realistic here–what fan-translators do isn’t illegal in the least, but in this particular case, it’s only going to encourage people to pirate the PSX game. That makes it morally incorrect, even though there may be no legal grounds on which it could be considered so. So no, I don’t see what you’re saying at all. It’s wrong, plain and simple.

          • Chris Downes

Ugh stop being difficult :P I was just talking about the translation, not pirating the game, so don’t bring that into the matter. I was talking about all the hard work put into the matter was well, where did piracy even come into this conversation? How do you see cancelling lots of hard work put into a project as right? What makes this translation so wrong? No one is forcing any one to pirate the game. It’s the consumers choice. So it isn’t wrong, and they aren’t supporting piracy in any matter, or way. It’s the CONSUMERS IDEA to pirate the game. So I say that this translation is not wrong. I don’t see how you find all this so bad :( Especially when it comes to the two-four(?) years of work put in the project. Anyways we should stop this stupid argument, it’s taking up to much room XD So I’m just going to say this, and stop, I don’t think its wrong, its the consumers choice.

          • This is a bunch of BS and I think you understand that as well as anyone else does. Releasing a fan-translation for an old game that isn’t easily obtainable via legal means is tantamount to encouraging people to pirate it.

Now, let’s say that this game were never to see the light of day again, in any other form. In that scenario, fine; maybe one could overlook it. No immediate harm is being done to anyone.

But this game is about to see a legal re-release from its official publisher, and there’s a 90% chance that it will be released in English as well. Pushing out a fan-translation before the official release would be an incredible dick move on the part of the fan-translator.

          • cj_iwakura

Gemini has said they’re doing the PS1 version because it has its own style, and I respect that. I’d prefer they drop it the moment it’s officially announced, but I won’t hold continuing their effort against them.

And I never pirated Innocent Sin when they did it. I bought a copy of the JP PS1 game.

  • Shut up and take my money!

  • Scirm

Once again word “awesome” is not enough powerful to describe this amazing game!

  • Shane Guidaboni

Hey, Atlus USA. ::poke poke:: You know what we want!

  • revenent hell

I doubt Atlus needs us to beg them to take our money…….But I will if you would just announce this soonish….

  • Shane Guidaboni

You do know this is a game that was never released in N.America, right? And most SMT fans over here have been dying to play it. And, yes, I would rather play this than a new DDS title, especially since there isn’t going to be a new DDS title. That series is over.

    • Zeik56

Exactly. People who think there should be a new DDS are probably the same people who think there should be a Nocturne 2. Just no, that’s not how it works.

Not that I wouldn’t like to see new spin-offs, but I have no reason to complain about this game, since there’s never been any feasible way for me to play it.

  • revenent hell

I love DDS myself but it does in no way make me feel un wanting of this game…and for the reasons stated by Shane Guidaboni.
Ive been laying in wait to play this game since I ever read about it,more so than most games actually realeased under the SMT name I would even say, and while alot of people may not like FP games I like some and I think how certain games do it make it very well done,Persona and Unchained Blades for example make it very easy to tolerate that aspect at least for me and even make it enjoyable.

  • LightZero

Sorry but I much rather play Soul Hackers a game that I’ve been wanting to play for a few years now over a new DDS which was wrapped up nicely btw. Just because you don’t want to play it doesn’t mean the rest of us don’t. Besides this is basically a new game for us westerners.

And some people wonder why old school megaten elitist hate some of the new school megaten fans…

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Speak for yourself there. I believe many SMT fans who had never played the game before on Saturn would also wanted to try and get this game here. Even i who played before is still hyped for this one.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

This game looks great there.^^ Especially me who is sucker for first person dungeon crawler here.^^ Hope they will add more special boss here and makes it as difficult as Demiurge or even Lucifer here lol.^^

  • neetyneety

Badass game is badass. Atlus, do I still even need to give a “wink, wink, nudge, nudge”? You guys know what we want~!

    • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Lol, wink? You must do belly dance like me here asking for this game here.^^

  • Woah did I spot a transformer demon???
And the MC attack the demons……by a pipe. R u out of your MIND!???
And did I just spot a demon fanservice at the end of the trailer!???
Where hv I seen tht red skeleton be4…….

Atlus, *winks* and plz don say you lose the data again.

  • Roberto Armando Iraheta

Welcome back to the 90s! :)

  • Game looks delicious! I’m not sure whether this will come over to the west or not, I would want to believe it will, but being a FPS dungeon crawler game, chances are really slim at best.

Either way, it looks amazing, and I can’t wait to give it a try if I can :)

  • cj_iwakura

Wow, do the dungeons look CRISP now. (I’ve played the Saturn version, and the dungeons look magnificent now.)
