The Last of Us Cinematic Shows Off Some Nice Voice-over Work

By Ishaan . July 13, 2012 . 5:36pm

Sony showed off a new cutscene from The Last of Us, Naughty Dog’s next game, at the San Diego Comic-Con this week. The scene takes place at the house of a character named Bill, who owes Joel a favour. Sony say that more about Bill will be revealed in the months to come, implying that he’ll play an important role in the game. You can watch the cinematic below:

    i like it already.

  • revenent hell

Ohhhh man from this alone..Insta buy!

  • ToshiChan

Ellie might be my favorite character in this already

  • The voice acting in this game is amazing.I can’t wait to get this game already!

  • Naughty dog, doing their “thing” again! These cinematics are awesome, seriously, but I would like to see a bit more gameplay. Things like this are best viewed for the first time in-game.

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Any game with Troy Baker and Liam O’Brien in it is gonna automatically have top-notch voice work.

  • MrRobbyM

Times like this I’m really glad I own a PS3.

  • riceisnice

It’s nice that the little girl is acting realistically in her situation. I bet if this was a Japanese cutscene, she’d have a nasal voice and be all, “I can’t POSSIBLY hurt the mushroom zombies” and “We need to find a way to stop EVERYONE’s suffering!”

    • Arrei

      Realistically, you say?

I’m thinking realistically a kid in that situation would have freaked out and gotten eaten already.

      • riceisnice

Well, realistically speaking in a rather unrealistic way. But not too unrealistic.

      • FitzpatrickPhillips

Realistic for the situation is realistic enough.

      • When you see the same sh*t everyday and hv a “good” parent figure, this happens.

      • Barzh

Kids can do terrible things also (young African mercenaries and Cartel kids) if pushed to do so. Ellie was raised in the broken world of The Last of Us so I do not find her to be unrealistic within the limits of how children could act in given situations.

The irony is that most of the people killed that are shown in the trailers and teasers are humans and not muchroom people. The only muchroom man I saw being killed on screen was the one of the 2011 trailer.
And the game seems the encourage you to run away from the zombies and focus on killing other survivors in order to get their loot, following the story and protecting Ellie of course.

………I will buy this game solely only for Ellie here lol.^^

  • Nemesis_Dawn

If it’s anything like how they did the work on Uncharted, they’re not just doing voice work, but motion capture at the same time. Surely, people have seen the Making Of videos for that, right? Where they have the actors actually act, while covered in motion capture bulbs and mic’ed, so they can get an actual performance out of the actors.

  • Never really touched the Uncharted series, but this game has got me interested since the first teaser trailer. Not my usual type game but I’m trying to expand out of the RPG scene with more action titles, etc; this seems to fit the bill.

I was thinking, from reading the comments, that the voice acting couldn’t be that good… *plays video* Haha! Ellie got some good funny lines. If that continues, she could be the real star of the game – and you can’t even play with her either!

  • That girl is no damsel in distress! I’m liking her spunk!

  • ……….I can’t really hear wht they say using the speaker of my PC monitor……

But this Bill looks lk he already loses some of his sanity…. and I bet his important role is turn crazy on the MCs…..

Can any1 plz provide the lines they said to me?

  • I want to give her a high five ( ^.^)人(ಠ_ಠ )

    • xavier axol

i don’t know about you, but she seems more intimidating than the old fart.

      • LOL This is true. Hence I want to give here high five for being more intimidating than a person twice her height and two (three?) times her age. Also I used the
(ಠ_ಠ )  to represent her haha.

        • xavier axol

well she’s too intimidating if you ask me, i better tell joel to watch his back. you can’t just trust anyone nowadays.

          • Sadly that is true. But she does seem to listen to Joel so hopefully that’s something.

  • IceRomancer

    Ellen Paige <33

    • Hate to break it to you, but that isn’t Ellen Paige.

      • yup. just kinda looks like her. lol.

        • So true. I was sort of disappointed that she wasn’t involve in this.

          • xavier axol

at least she’s in beyond: two souls. i saw those behind the scenes vids and love how into it she was. there’s no doubt, she’s apro!.

          • Beyond is looking really good! Give Ellen the right roles, and she can carry the film or whatever medium she’s involved in.

  • I didnt know joel was so…grey and oldish. lol. kinda makes me like him more, though. XD

  • Jonathan Keycross

So Joel doesn´t have to pay the bill this time!

I loved the way the characters interacted. I would be pissed off if someone goes to my hideout, destroys my traps, brings a lot of zombies and then just asks me “Dude, I need a car”. Though I sill loved how Joel and Ellie handled the situation.

  • Game is going to be awesome. Period.

  • Anime10121

The interactions between these characters is awesome!  I love cinematic scenes like this, its the main reason I love Uncharted (although the gameplay is pretty tight too).  The gameplay so far has looked nice, but what I’m really hoping is that the story is a heavy focus similar to Uncharted.
