Ryosuke Hagiwara, Capcom’s PR and marketing person in Japan, recently showed off a lengthy bit of footage from E.X. Troopers, the upcoming multiplayer Lost Planet spin-off for the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation 3. The footage below looks to be from the PS3 version of the game, specifically:

E.X. Troopers will be released sometime this year.

  • This looks really fun! . I wanna play it sooo bad lol >_<

I will keep praying for a localization announcement =)

this dont convince me, me the environment looks dull, also giving the fact that other than the character models its pretty much a game with PS2 textures, with better anti-aliasing, wich is not very compelling for a PS3 game near the coming of the next gen, and from a company like capcom, even companies like gust have raised theur standarts by this point, for a 3DS game its awesome, and for PSP or VITA would be a better fit, in HS tv those textures looks really bad.

the idea is to look cartoonish… and this vid is 360p…

      • We’ve already gotten hi-res screenshots of the game, and even in them the enviroments still look sparse and dull.

  • Cephrien

Of course the environments look plain– if they put massive detail into everything how are they going to run this in that DELICIOUS 60 fps?

Quit being spoiled gamers. Graphics don’t make a game– doesn’t matter what gen it’s on. Besides, to me, bright and awesomely colorful visuals + 60 frames = EYE CANDY.

Also, that soundtrack is seriously rockin’ my world.
I want this game. Like– now.
It needs to be here. It needs to be INSIDE my Ps3.

This man is 100% correct in everything he says.  Graphics are the LAST thing that should be looked at when talking about video games.  A smooth frame rate and great gameplay are FAR more important!  I’ve been gaming for a little over 20 yrs and will never understand why or how graphics became a deciding factor in games :(

Regardless of how I feel about Capcom these days, even I have to admit that they still (at least their internal studios and even some of the ones under contract) make solid games that are generally fun to play.

Its called a complete package. Otherwise, Lamborghinis, Ferrari’s and Porches would look like 70’s VW’s

        • Anime10121

Well I’m the type that would rather have a functional car rather than one that looks nice, has the capability to drive (or accelerate) much faster than is legal on the road, and would bend up like a piece of paper if it bumped into another car.  I dont care about the looks of a car as much as I do it  being able to just, you know, drive.  I just dont see how something looks has more importance (or equal importance) to everything else in a product.

          • Guest

lol that makes no sense.  Where is there a car that’s sold now thats governed to 55 mph? Pretty sure I can take any domestic car thats out now way past the speed limit if I want. You can die just the same in any car. Matter of fact, probably worse in a car that performs and handles worse than the three companies I just mentioned; probably flipping over or losing control easier. It’s called ‘well tuned’. Also, there looks is not just for aesthetics; its for aerodynamics and handling. Its the same with a game; a great game has equal portions of everything which brings it all together in a well package.

          • Anime10121

I dont think you’re getting what I mean.  I’m not saying that normal cars cant go faster than the speed limit, what I’m saying is that those types of cars have far more power than what’s needed/necessary on the street.

Sure you can die just the same in any car, bike, or any motor vehicle, but people cant drive regular cars the way they can drive those types of cars.  The way those cars function, if you dont handle them correctly, they incur much more damage.  Every time I see a wrecked lambo, ferarri, or Porche in a wreck, they are completely totaled (dont know if its the way they drive, or the way the cars made).  Plus they cost MUCH more to fix and do normal maintenance on.  I just dont see the benefits to equal the price of admission.  Sure I’d take one if given one, but I would not drive it, I’d sell it as soon as I got it, because the thing just isnt worth it to me.

And yeah, they are more “well tuned” and have better aerodynamics and handling, but most people still dont know how to handle that extra precision and/or power.  It takes far more skill to be able to drive a “luxury car” over a standard one.

I also dont think that games need to have “equal parts of everything”.  If that was the case I wouldnt find Disgaea 3 (with it’s psOne looking graphics), any Megaman game (none of them have looked graphically stunning), or anything from previous gens still fun.  Games IMO are about gameplay first, everything else is just an added bonus.  Sure it’s nice for them to look nice, but that has no bearing on how much fun a game can be.

    • Yeah the graphics in particular is not the aspect of the game, that kills my interest, but with that said, their has been other cel-shaded games that have come out in the past that have visually appealed to me more so than this title.  Such as Eternal Sonata, Naruto Storm Series, and the Tales Series.  I feel that their is room for visual improvement, without the possibility of endangering the frame rate.

    • Nitraion

I only noticed HD or non HD when games like PS2 or PS1 plays in my PS3 TBH
i dunno what it means graphic dull in PS3 or other system also video on you tube don’t do justice it think….

  • eduperondi

Why Capcom hasn’t released any 3DS video version of it yet? I’m starting to get afraid of that

  • Josh Strange

I’m sorry but this looks terrible… I’m all for new ideas and concepts but this isn’t working.

  • Zonic505

Liking what I’m seeing, though I’m hoping we’ll get some footage of the 3DS version.

& I’m continuing to dig that music to the point I want an OST to be released.

  • Well…it looks okay, but after playing Vanquish, other 3rd person shooters just don’t seem all that appealing anymore.  Ill probably pass on it, but I appreciate the fresh spin that Capcom is putting on the series though.

  • Nitraion

It seems japanese game is died in here just looking at comments…
anyway it looks can be promising….but it will be nice the gun effect writing like “bang bang” when gun is being shot…. but when enemies hit and granade boom
it still on….The rest it still fun game

    • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Yeah.T_T It seems people complained so much here.T_T I mean, we already know that it is taking LP world as their main basis there so the world will surely not being so vibrant concerning it is planet filled with ice there.

Even the first game environemt is quite bland there as except for 3 last stages, all the environment is surely ice hell there.

And to thinks that Capcom had tried to come out with a new IP here lol.

  • You know after seeing this, if it wasn’t for the snow. I don’t see how this has anything to do with Lost Planet, even if it is a spin off.

    • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

The monster there? And the suit we are wearing is totally from LP though.

  • Guest

Why even tie it to Lost Planet?  Looks nothing it plus it has a different title anyway. If they never said anything, no one would be the wiser…

    • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Because the setting is in LP world there. The icy planet, even the enemies the Arknaid is totally taken from LP series there.

So it surely tied to LP franchise there however maybe not canon is directly link there.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

This game looks even better than the main LP there lol.^_^ The music, and multiplayer there looks hell of fun too.^^

  • MrKappa

The game looks fun but way too simple. I know the hate train is rolling for LP3 but as long as it doesn’t end like generic shooter #174 and stays a little like LP1 and 2 then it will easily be better than this.
This game just looks too empty and too simple.

    • isfuturebright

Yeah for a PS3 I’d agree with you… but looking at it from a 3DS perspective this looks really good.

  • Wht did LP3 do to get on the hate train?

This game cetainly got my interest though.

  • Nikolai Sumcad

Reminds me of the Gundam games and Higurashi Daybreak. This looks like it’ll be a lot of fun with friends.
