Mugen Souls ESRB Rating Reveals A Masochist, Buttocks And More

By Ishaan . July 30, 2012 . 10:30am

The ESRB have shared their rating for Compile Heart’s Mugen Souls, which will be published in the U.S. by NIS America. The game got away with a Teen rating, and this is what the ESRB had to say about it:

In this role-playing game, players control Chou-Chou, an “undisputed god” attempting to forcibly take over her universe. As players explore the solar system, they can engage in turn-based combat with human-like characters and fantasy creatures. Players choose weapon strikes and special attacks from a menu screen (e.g., Rainbow Tower, Two-Part Cut); damage is indicated by slashing sounds, light effects, and a loss of hit points.

A number of cutscenes depict female characters whose bodies are partially obscured by hot-spring mist and soap suds. During one such scene, a nearby male character suffers a nosebleed, resulting in exaggerated blood effects (e.g., “There it goes! The Red Ryuto Geyser!”).

Players can also access gallery images depicting women in revealing outfits that expose large amounts of cleavage/buttocks. The dialogue and on-screen text include several instances of sexual innuendo/references (e.g., “What if he wrote about his weird habits or sexual fantasies or something,” “CC Sadist,” “I’m just a perverted girl who likes verbal abuse. Please scold me,” and “Marina, lemme grab your boobies.”). The words “sh*t,” “a*s,” and “b*tch” also appear in dialogue.

Yep. No surprises there. Mugen Souls will be released on September 18th in North America. You can read up on the $100 limited edition of the game, which comes with a body sponge, here.

    As to be expected.

Can’t wait to pick up this game.

  • It’s sad that I mainly want to get this game due to Harada’s always-wonderful artwork.

Interesting that it apparently DOES have the hot springs scene, though, since wasn’t that the part everyone expected would get cut, or am I mistaken?

    • Barrit

No, the hot spring scenes were left in. They are part of the story CGs. It’s the bath mini-game and associated CGs that were cut.

  • Carlos Daniel Flores Loreto

Still dont know how to feel about the censorship, but Im such a whore for NISA Limited editions, so I preordered the 100 USD one, along with the Enma-kun set. Can’t wait for them.

    • xavier axol

i may not be as much whore as you (since i’m not getting the limited edition), there’s a lot of game coming this fall and i like to have multiple partners (i mean games!!). and while i didn’t take the censorship easy, i see now that it isn’t a big deal and i’ll be getting it. now i want more info on the witch and the hundred knights.

  • IshimaruKaito

    i want this game!

  • harmonyworld

I was totally ready for this game until I heard it was like a bishoujo game with pervy cutscenes and junk, now I’m not to sure.

  • Just like Neptunia, I’m at loss for words after reading that…

  • Luna Kazemaru

Am i the only one who gets a headace trying to understand what the hell the ESRB is saying most if the time

    • Looks like they’re just pointing out the questionable stuff.

      • Luna Kazemaru

Its just how they point them out. Sounds like a kid trying to explain his first timee with a woman lol.

        • SirRichard

I get more of a feeling of complete strictness, like it’s some balding man in a business suit reading it off to an assembly completely straight-faced.

Kind of love it for these sorts of games, really.

  • davidvinc

“princess’s” is not grammatically correct. Hopefully they change that before the release.

    • you figure they’d run the translated text through a spell checker, but maybe not.  Oh well, just hold your finger over the extra “s” and pretend it isn’t there.

      • SirTeffy

Spell checker wouldn’t find anything wrong, it’s CORRECT AS IS.

    • M’iau M’iaut

Actually both s’ or s’s are considered correct. Personally, I’ve always preferred s’ but s’s is seeing more writing style guides prefer it lately. It’s like commas and quotations, there can indeed be more than one acceptable way to punctuate.

    • As others mentioned, it is correct. Depending on the style guide you use/were taught, singulars ending with an -s still need an ‘s on it. Princess’s, goddess’s, etc.

We follow CMS, and it states that this is the correct way.

It’s sort of like the Oxford comma. Some use it, some don’t. Both are accepted.

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Ended up swallowing my gut and pre-ordered again. If anything I’ll just import it once my japanese is better and its much cheaper and play through it in its full perverted glory.

I just hope the ONLY thing they removed were the bath scenes.

  • omeganeko

“During one such scene, a nearby male character suffers a nosebleed,
resulting in exaggerated blood effects (e.g., “There it goes! The Red
Ryuto Geyser!”). ” I didn’t know they could censor AWESOMENESS!!!

    • xXDGFXx

      Wait… that’s a guy!?!

  • Arrei

Did we ever find out what exactly the censoring entailed? Did they remove the bath minigame entirely, or make them non-interactive, or cover them up with something, or what?

    • npcomplete

Not sure but my impression was the minigame was removed.  What is clear from the NISA forums, many CGs have been removed including bonus CGs.

  • Oltheros

Yep, confirmed. They definitely censored it to get a T rating.

  • Jesse Thompson

    <3 u always NISA. (~.~):b

  • As a person who ****ING HATES censorship I’m actually okay with it in this case. I mean come on, it a loli bathing minigame.

    • God forbid you bathe underage looking chicks, now excuse me while I brutally kill people who probably had families waiting for them.

      • Brandonmkii

Double standards, no one has them :/

    • Monsley

A person who hates censorship would NEVER replace foul words with asterisks. :)

Edit: Unless Disqus did it? If that’s the case, I apologise for assuming you censored yourself.

      • If we could curse on Siliconera’s Disqus my comments would be a bit more colorful.

  • PK212

What exactly is “large amounts of buttocks”? haha.

Does it show a lot of buttocks or is it just that a lot of buttocks are being shown?

    • Guest

      Jennifer Lopez
      Kim Kardashian
      Nicki Minaj
      Jessica Beil

      • M’iau M’iaut

All I see on that list is a large amount of bollocks.

        • Guest

          Hey he asked. I answered.

      • Bentan

jessica alba too .. mmm dat ass

      • PK212

So I can assume they are in this game then? Haha.

  • My body sponge will be on its way soon. My body is ready. =^_^=

  • OH, YEAH.

  • Anesia Hunter

    ♥_♥ I want this game too, but I still don’t have a PS3. ;-;

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

I don’t know about all you guys there but…….. don’t you guys think that ESRB rating there about Jrpg always makes me wanted to buy the game more??? Just like Neptunia there???^_^

    • ﹁_﹁ That’s how they reel you in, people…

      • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Lol.^_^ And i believe, most of the Jrpg there that got funny or harsh rating ended up as a must buy for me lol.^_^

        • Keitaro004

A teen rating isn’t that harsh, really. But they always drag me in that way too xD Those nasty descriptions

  • God it sounds awful.

  • I hate my games getting censored, but on this case, I guess I’ll let it slide…for now. *o*
