BlazBlue Series Reaches 1.7 Million Sold Worldwide

By Ishaan . August 2, 2012 . 12:30pm

Aksys are in the process of celebrating BlazBlue’s third-year anniversary in North America, and as part of the celebration, they’re kicking off a trio of contests from August through October. While contest details haven’t been announced yet, Aksys say you’ll be able to win a Jin body pillow, signed illustrations by the BlazBlue team, and a third-year anniversary BlazBlue banner for your wall.

Additionally, Aksys also revealed North American and worldwide sales for the BlazBlue series. Since their 2009 release on consoles, the BlazBlue games have sold over 800,000 copies in the U.S. and 1.7 million copies worldwide.

For the sake of comparison, Street Fighter IV (2009) has sold 3.1 million copies worldwide, while Super Street Fighter IV (2010) has sold another 1.8 million copies. Meanwhile, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (2011) has sold 2.1 million copies worldwide.

Whoa. So first it’s Soul Calibur 5 hitting the 1 million mark, now it’s Blazblue’s turn.

So this 1.7 million mark, that’s for the combined sales of Calamity Trigger, Continuum Shift and CS: Extend?

Now I wanted to know the sales numbers for KOF XIII because that game should deserve good sales too.

Oh and . . . Jin body pillow? Am I reading that right? Is this the first time a male character got a body pillow?

    • Mike Pureka

I wonder if these numbers also include the portable titles? “Continuum Shift 2” for the 3DS? Heck. BlayzBloo? :P

      • Nemesis_Dawn

I’m pretty sure it does include the portable titles, considering there has been a big drop-off in every console version.

  • Shane Guidaboni

Well, congrats, but who cares about this when we have P4A!

    • XiaomuArisu

    • BadenBadenPrinny

I actually care about it more than P4U

  • XiaomuArisu

    Congrats!Continuum with your great work!

  • Code

Not particularly surprised, overall support for Blazblue outside of Japan has just been really mediocre sadly >__<; It's been my favorite fighter this generation too, so it's kind of a shame T3T;; But hopefully it'll continue to grow and only get bigger, really eager for the next BB game owo; I'd love to grab some anniversary prizes thoug… wait what… a Jin bodypillow.. wut .___.'

    • Setsuryuu

What you’re talking about? That sounds like GREAT numbers for a new challenger, just coming up to fight those decade-long giants. xP

And I’m with @z_merquise:disqus !! It’d be nice to know KOF XIII since that game was just huge back then in “my time” I can’t think about fighters without thinking about KOF.

      • Code

        I’m curious about KOF’s number’s too o3o I’ve heard XII bombed, and XIII’s sales, at least, in North America were rather flat >__w<; But still comparing it to other fighters it still comes up a little shorter then I expected. I think more so than the sales I'd just really like to see Blazblue do better competitively T3T; But on the plus side I think loads of people love the series, and it's still carved out it's own place uwu;

        • Setsuryuu

Yeah I heard that without the specific numbers too. =/

And don’t worry bro, we all know that Blazblue will top the charts with no equal when “Guilty Gear vs. BlazBlue: Heaven or Hell Continuum” is released. Because, I mean, it will EVENTUALLY be released, SOMEONE has to make that happen, right? xP

          • Code

rar, maybe someday >3w<; Here's hoping P4A pulls some big numbers owo~!!

      •  XIII lost a lot of support from the fiasco that was XII, so i wouldn’t expect it to do that great…

        • What are you talking about? There is no KOF12. Went from 11 to 13.

Real talk. Did North America outside Mexico even HAVE a KOF fanbase? Sure, the incomplete game that was 12 probably did a little damage, but I doubt it “lost a lot of support”.

  • Rocsas

But seriusly a JIN BODY PILLOW….
having the booby lady, Noel the postergirl for sexy back and Mu for dat ass or any other of the girls or even Hazama for maximun trolling

    • Chris Pearson

There already is a noel body pillow

    • Solomon_Kano

A Hazama body pillow would’ve been hilarious.

  • Crevox

(Your real wall, not your Facebook wall.)
    Who said anything about Facebook?

    • Triplicity

      Is a joke

  • Darkrise

I’m glad the sales are doing well and I’m probably not going to come close to even winning that contest. T.T

  • Jokes on you Ishaan, my computer is powered by trees.

  • Tom_Phoenix

Why does Mu-12 have Fin Funnels on her back?

    • LynxAmali

Surprised you’re just catching that now.

And technically, Nu had them first.

      • Tom_Phoenix

Well, I’m not familiar with the BlazBlue series, so the picture kind of took me by suprise,

And yes, I’ve just read that there is a character called Nu-13. That’s hilarious. XD I guess Aksys must be big fans of Gundam Girls.

      • Mr_SP

Technically, they’re more like GN Sword Bits. Since they’re… you know… swords. Even though Mu-12 *does* have laser Bits, as well.

  • Nemesis_Dawn

It sounds like a big number until you realize that it’s been three games over at least a half dozen systems. Let’s see…PS3 (3 games), 360 (3 games), DS (1 game), 3DS (1 game), PSP (2 games), Vita (1 game).  Considering how many less places the SFIV games have been, it makes the numbers less impressive. I’d be very curious as to how much the sales numbers dipped with every new retail iteration.

    • Herok♞

dude its like you are comparing apples(SF4) to papayas(BB) of course Street Fighter would sell more it had an established fan base before this gen that dates back 25 years at this point.

      • Nemesis_Dawn

Did you actually read the article? I’m not the one who brought up the Street Fighter IV comparisons.

        • Herok♞

I know you aren’t the one to bring it up but you made it sound like it wasn’t a important milestone because something that clearly was/is clearly more popular out sold it.

  • l777l

Real walls. They’ve not been getting the attention they deserve. (And not just because people ran into them.)

  • Closet_Ninja

so in joy of this for BlazBlue make Kokonoe a playable character  >=p

  • BadenBadenPrinny

    Kinda sad :(

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

All the fighitng game news there makes me happy lol especially if the game is not one of the very succesful brand there.^_^

Now SNK, where is your KoF news there?T_T I need to know there whether my favorite fighting is still alive or not there.T_T

  • Solomon_Kano

Pretty nice for a series that’s only been around 3 years. Hopefully, Arc continues to see success with their fighters. Well, P4A pretty much guarantees that for the immediate future. Now it’s time for the next BlazBlue! Or Guilty Gear! Or both!

  • Not a bad innings for a non-mainstream, niche title. We’ll see a new BlazBlue soon enough and, here’s to hoping, a new Guilty Gear as well!

  • ivanchu77

Not bad at all, but considering the quality of the games they deserved much more sales!

  • Göran Isacson

Decent sales in my mind, and I hope they’ll only continue to climb as time goes by! ArcSys does good work and good work deserves good sales.

  • AceWildCard

    I love blazblue~

  • NoctisCrystallisXV

I like the Series of Blazblue very awesome, if they planed to localize BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma to the west.
