Dead or Alive 5 Trailer Shows The Faintest Hints Of A Story

By Ishaan . August 8, 2012 . 2:31pm

Tecmo Koei have shared an “opening declaration” trailer for Dead or Alive 5 via GameSpot. Take a look at the trailer below, which gives us our first look of any hint of a story in Dead or Alive 5:

The trailer also shows off Helena, Eliot and Gen-Fu as part of the game’s returning cast, although Tecmo Koei haven’t announced them officially. Dead or Alive 5 will be released on September 25th in North America.

Woot we finally get to see Helena.

  • Dantis

So hyped for this. This trailer has actually convinced me to buy the game.

Reminded of the good old days of maining Hayabusa online.

  • Luna Kazemaru

Saw this awhile back I might pick it up again.

  • Claire Oga

Let’s hoped that Alpha-152 is playable

  • Helena’s “statement” was clearly a reference to team ninja falling apart and the mediocre to bad reception of their games after their restructuring.

That aside, kasumi’s new costume is fantabulous; she can just ditch the classic one now forever.

  • Crimson_Cloud

*nod nod* Game keeps getting more appealing. ^^

    • Daniel Morandi

Yeah, I like how it is going.

  • XiaomuArisu

Helena sounds a little like silvia from no more heroes…Welcome to the garden of madness!

    • kylehyde

I’m glad that I’m not the only one that noticed it, certainly it sounds a little like Paula Tiso, just with a more pronounced accent.

  • Anime10121

I cant wait for this!  Im hoping this game is even half as awesome as DOA2 Hardcore was, and has as many costumes to unlock (although that’s entirely unlikely considering it had on average about 6-8 per character, and with DLC nowadays, dont see them including that many as unlockables).

  • Wow, they are going all out on DOA5 for sure! That was an awesome trailer, and already pre-ordered and waiting. September can’t come soon enough! =^_^=

  • The story in DOAD for 3DS was very confusing and made no sense and the one in DOA5 might be no different. I’m not asking for a good story, just as long there’s crazy over-the-top action but more importantly, each character get his/her own story and not simply revolve around a hand full of ninjas.

    • Suicunesol

The campaign/tutorial/story mode for the 3DS was a half-assed compilation of the story from DOA1 to DOA4, I think. Of course it was confusing. Not to mention the stories were confusing to begin with.

I’m not expecting anything like separate story modes for each character since previous games didn’t really have that (right?) Kasumi, Hayate, Ayane, Hayabusa, etc. are all trademark characters for the series and the story did revolve around them. It would be quite extravagant (but not unwelcome) if even minor characters got a story mode from their point of view.

      • stardusty

In the past every character did indeed have a story mode.  (except for bonus characters like Tengu, Nicole, Ein, etc.)

        • Suicunesol

I stand corrected. Awesome! How in depth was the story mode?

          • midgard229

not in depth at all. opening scene, middle scene then ending. the 3ds game had alot of story though even if it was confusing.

hoping i can drop the dub and just put japanese voices

  • Voltech44

Eliot’s back?  All right!  Now I can resume knocking ninjas out of the sky.

And Alpha-152…ah, brings back memories of grabs that take off 75% of my health.

I wonder if this game has what it takes to stand up to Tekken Tag 2 — especially considering how much trash-talk Itagaki used to do toward his “rival”…

  • Suicunesol

Was Helena’s accent always that thick?

  • raymk

Allright now this is a trailer and was that milla in the trailer under the bridge?

  • Daniel Morandi

Mmmm…gotta love Tekken story when you know that japanese characters talk in japanese and western characters talk in english with some accents. Every character understand each other even if they are not talking in the same language.

But don’t mind me. I’m not complaining about this game just wondering if I could see more of that in other fighters.

  • Angeru_Lito

Awesome trailer but if you’re gonna go Rap go all the way.

  • $3587643

Nothing like listening to an incredibly bland, terribly done dub to kill my enthusiasm.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Helena and Elliot? Can this game get any better here/??

  • Christopher Nunes

Cool, Victor Donovan makes an actual appearance in a main DOA game (though the DOA: Dimension is his first official appearance in the series, it wasn’t really a main game) and I like the Helena’s statement about DOATECH as it references the in-game story and the story on Team Ninja with the losing of their members and founding father of DOA, Tomonobu Itagaki, and it was great!

Helen’a voice sounds like it has more of an accent to it than it was in Dimensions, but I don’t mind but the rapping… really? Couldn’t they picked a better song?

Anyway the Story Mode looks amazing! And I see Kasumi standing along side with Ayane, Hayate, and Ryu there! Looks like it’s going to be exciting, and the story also has the “minor” characters as well to play in the story. And it’s good to see returning characters as well, and Alpha-152 as well…

(In the Dimensions story Alpha-152 is actually Kasumi Alpha who was transformed or upgraded to Alpha-152, sorry for the spoilers but I don’t see a spoiler tag option)

I am so excited for this game! The only thing to make this even better is a Create-a-Fighter mode to make your own character! I so cannot wait until it comes out! ^_^

  • XypherCode

What’s with Helena and that accent?

    • Ty Austin

She’s french. This is pretty much the first time hearing her in english (barring that horrid english VA in DOA2.) It does sound pretty thick.

      • XypherCode

Well yeah I know but you’re right her accent IS kinda thick now than the previous titles. Well normally I play DOA with JP voices so not a big deal :))

  • Ty Austin

Helena being my main, was the sole reason I needed to be hyped for this game.  So happy she was finally shown!  Was getting pretty nervous there!

  • Tee Niitris

Looks good; this story seems like it will be the best one in the series, even though that’s not saying much.

So that green Kasumi thing is the boss again… great. >_>
Was hoping for a more likeable boss.

  • Aztec

Yes. I will buy this for the compelling story.

  • Setsuryuu

Oh, this kind of soundtrack brings me Street Fighter 3 memories… (I don’t know if it’s the best memories about it).

  • Göran Isacson

Did Helena always have that thick an accent? … and was Zack hacking her broadcast? Because I ddid not expect him to have those kinda skills.
