The First English Screenshots Of Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward

By Ishaan . August 10, 2012 . 1:01pm

This morning, Rising Star Games announced that they will be publishing visual novel adventure, Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward, in Europe sometime in November. A follow-up to 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors, the game is designed by Kotaro Uchikoshi, the writer of Ever 17.

Alongside their announcement, Rising Star also released the first English screenshots of the game. We’ve confirmed with Aksys that Rising Star’s English-language text will be based on Aksys’ English script for the U.S. release.

Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward will be released in North America sometime in October for the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita. Rising Star, too, will release the game for both systems.

I am ready for the Ben Bateman-edited script to wash over me. I’ve already got the game preordered, I can’t wait for October!

  • LunarKnite

Oh man, can’t wait for this. 999 was my favorite DS game, here’s hoping VLR will be the same for my 3DS.

  • Samurai_Heart

Lol I was thinking that Rising Star Games have been quiet for a while and then they come out with such an awesome news =D, hope they have plenty more to games to announce, Ragnarok Odyssey maybe ;). So hyped for this as well, imported 999 loved it and was thinking I would have to import this game as well. =D Love ya RSG, but let’s speed up the Harvest Moon and Rune Factory releases XD

    • landlock

Ragnarok Tactics is more likely as they seem to publish anything Aksys Games does now.

  • Chris Downes

I’m so pumped for this game

  • Pre-ordering this as soon as I can :D This just turned out to be my most expected game release of 2012. Can’t.wait.

With Devil Survivor OverClocked and Devil Survivor 2 being released this fall, I’ll have one awesome time with mah 3DS :D

    •  …Where do you live… DesuOv and Desu2 are already released…

      •  I believe he lives in Europe since they’re not out yet there :3

      •  As Wayne LaBranch said, I live in Europe, and both games were not released in my territory unfortunately, something that’ll change soon, thankfully :)

  • s6_miller

But what about the first game? Europe never got that so how will they understand the story if this is a sequel?

    • Solomon_Kano

While there are connections to 999, it’s not a sequel in the sense that you won’t know what’s going on if you missed the prior game.

Think The Dark Knight to Batman Begins, if you’ve seen those. They tell independent stories with some details that you’d only catch if you saw both, but that don’t take away from either overall.

    • You could import.

    • Barrylocke89

And at least DS games are region-free, so for English speakers in Europe, they still have a (more expensive) way to still play the original Zero Escape.

  • Ty Arnold

I hope that this game still has plenty of long-winded discussions about pseudo-science that occur while everyone’s in danger of freezing to death.

  • Anymore complaints about the title? Anyone? Anyone?

Alright, pretty damn hyped. Was going through theories and discussions of 999 about a week ago so I’m all ready to get my mind totally ***ked again.

  • Budgiecat

I need to finish the first game…

  • Oh its coming out in October? Niccceeee Cant wait just bough 999 For 12 dollars on Amazon so Im all set.

Pretty cheap for new too  ^_^

  • Marco Tinè

Yes! Bring it on, Rising Star :D

  • komiko12

    Need more screesnshots!

Though, I would admit that I still liked 999’s characters more.

    • Julien_N

I also prefer 999’s characters, because their design is less overboard and gives a realistic feeling, while keeping stylish anime-like artworks. The shift to 3D models also hinders the likeability factor of the new cast.

However, I am sure the script will make us warm up to the newcomers, as the physical attributes are not the only interesting things in a person. %)

  • Hours

I want this game so much.

    •  I’m sure we’ll get it soon, we need more games like this for the 3DS anyway.

  • keithmaxx

This is looking up to be a great suspense puzzle game… Bring it on! :)

  • Now I shall go lookup 4 the 1st game.

  • Yes! Thank you so much Rising Star Games!

  • WingsOfEternity

Probably my most anticipated game ATM

  • heartless141

  • Nicolas Vasquez

i hope this is the start of sony america giving up their visual novel phobia.

  • Go2hell66

oh yes more love for my vita!

  • Alexandra Cordes

I really don’t know whether to get it for the Vita or the 3DS…

  • Chris Downes

I shall listen to Ternary Game while I wait patiently. And who is the new zero? Was there another experiment? Ugh so many questions. I’m really confused, on who the new zero could be. And I want to learn about what happened to Junpei, and the others after the game. Can’t wait until October :(

  • Zoozbuh

YEEEEEEEESSS!!! I love RSG so much. This is great news for people in the EU, since we won’t have to import the game!~

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

My first VN for my 3DS there.^_^ Hope this one will be able to provide me the same or better experience after tasting 999 goodness there.^_^

  • Relytgninroht

Wonder what the Vita version will look like, and how they’ll handle the interface in it. Only seen 3DS screens so far.

  • Screw the 3DS, I wanted Vita screenshots. Disappointing, oh well.

  • Insigma

It looks nice enough already on the 3DS… So I guess expect everything to be much crisper and clearer on the Vita. No need to complain~
