PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Scheduled For November Release

By Ishaan . August 13, 2012 . 10:20am

Sony have announced a final release date for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. The crossover fighter will be released on November 20th in North America (as well as Canada and Latin America).

Sony say they plan to use the time polishing and fine-tuning the game, and incorporating feedback received through the game’s ongoing limited beta. More news about the title, they say, will be shared at Gamescom.

I just got a vita and with nothing to play on it i might check it out. Not incredibly excited to play super smash with less memorable characters though, but super smash is always fun

    •  Depends what you grew up on. I only had Playstation growing up, so these characters are more memorable to me.

      • James Beatty

I had a ps1 growing up. The only ps1 character in there is papa rappa. Probably the most memorable characters (for me) on there is kratos and jak (which is a dead series for now). They also don’t look like they belong in the same universe together. Which feels a bit weird.

        • Brandonmkii

Heihachi is totally a ps1 character. Heck, even Toro is, but that’s Japan-only.

          •  Needles Kane (Sweet Tooth) is as well.

      • Scrooge_McDuck

I only started console gaming from PSX, yet I am more familiar with Sonic and Mario rather than the PSX characters from this roster, which I don’t recognize at all.

Probably because I was exclusively an RPG player.

Does Sony has a celebrity character with adequate mascot-y quality, anyway?

        •  Yes, each person’s experience will be different.

    • Herok♞

I grew up with both nintendo and sony and I have to agree with you, so far their are only 3 or characters I want to use. I will buy the game if they do a ps3/vita bundle though.

I thought this was coming out early 2013.How long has this game been in development?

    • James Beatty

Probably not very long is my guess. I thought it was supposed to come out like in october or something.

  • Andar

    That’s a very…testosteronetastic character roster.

    • MrRobbyM

      Seriously. There’s one female…and she’s obese.

  • omeganeko

Cole and Parappa….I got your numbers.

  • Tylor Makimoto

Seems like a smart move. Closer release to holiday shopping time, plus there is a ton of games getting October releases (for Nintendo anyway, not sure about 360 and PS3).

  • Xekyo

Perfect way to end off my birthday weekend.  :D

  • French

Whilst some would argue the fact that this a SSB clone, I think it is fair to say that this game has unique qualities in itself. Rather than complaining about this game im gunna give it a go and see

  • Marcelo Henrique Chaves

I’m not interested at all in this game yet. Mostly because of the characters, after all the game its about them.
I thought Sony would put together not so forgotten characters from beloved series, but i think the freaking IP rights gets in the way.

  • Rocket D

I know copyrights, licensing and such are a problem but here’s a few I hope to see before the release (or at least DLC):

Final Fantasy Character (any of them, please)
Crash Bandicoot (and or a villian from the series)
    Gex the Gecko
    Spyro Classic
Dante (or a character from DMC)
    and some female characters lol

    • Budgiecat

      Lara Croft
      Nariko from Heavenly Sword
Whats her name from Gravity Rush
      Lightning from FF XIII

Seem like no brainers to me. Heck, throw in Sophia from Battle Arena Toshinden. She was practically the spokeslady for the PS1 console right before it came out

Of course though I think Cloud from FF VII needs to be in the game.

  • TheDarkEmpress

Roster is disappointing to say the very least, childhood nostalgia aside.

  • BadenBadenPrinny

I honestly think this needs a bit more time :(

  • It’s not a very appealing roster, to me anyway. PaRappa is the only one I’d consider using.

  • Mike Pureka

I don’t really care one way or the other about this game, and, from what I can tell, neither do most other people, and that doesn’t bode well for it.

I have bad news for Sony – their roster has very little charisma, and what little it has is scattered between characters who just don’t feel like they go together.  Nintendo has always had a somewhat uniform, somewhat cartoony feel about their characters, so even though, say, Mario and Samus are from radically different games with radically different moods, somehow it still doesn’t cause the level of cognitive dissonance that putting Kratos in a game with…well, pretty much anyone else in this roster does.

They’ve got a lot of very talented people working on this game, but I’m deeply concerned that the parameters they’ve been given to work in aren’t going to let them make a very good game.

  • Kuhile Brodeur

I’m a character whore! Twelve characters isn’t enough for me to buy to a game.
