Sleeping Dogs DLC Packs Planned For The Next Six Months

By Ishaan . August 13, 2012 . 11:17am

Hong Kong crime drama game, Sleeping Dogs, is out on August 14th in North America and on August 17th in Europe. This morning, Square Enix announced that they have plans to support the game with additional content via DLC for the next six months.

“We want to create something to suit everyone’s play style from cool cars and high-speed missions to outlandish outfits and game-extending mission packs. The game launch is just the beginning,” said Lee Singleton, General Manager, Square Enix London Studios.

There will be extra content available for Sleeping Dogs at launch, too. When the game releases this week, there’ll be an ‘80s-inspired Retro Triad Pack, and an old school outfit with player buffs and kung-fu van.

The other DLC content will be released starting in September, including a high-speed Racing Pack and and SWAT Pack. More details will be announced at a later date.

I hope they are cheap, or free (yeah, like that will happen).
I’m not agasit DLC, I’m just agaist DLC done bad.
Hope they don’t abuse with the DLC’s price and content.

Jesus, once Square got into the habit of using DLC they don’t hesitate to use it by half, do they?

In their defense, they are only supplying what’s being demanded.  Either give gamers downloadable content that they are willing to pay for and keep them playing, or run the risk of gamers trading in their initial copies or selling them second hand.  Not really a hard choice to make when you look at it from that perspective.

No harm to them, that’s just the market these days and this is certainly fairer DLC practice than plenty of other major companies, but I just have to laugh that they have six months of it lined up. I can understand why, it still just amuses me.

I’ll probably wait for the Game of the year Edition. Or just buy the game and not care about the DLCs >_>

Oh well, that’s just the way the industry rolls these days. Here’s hoping they’ll eventually release a version that has everything on disc, though; I wouldn’t mind waiting an extra 6-12 months for the complete experience.

Obligatory “this is what the game industry has been reduced to” comment.

Excellent. Hopefully Lightning will be in it.

Well, there is a couple of reviews already floating around. It’s looking good. If the dlc has any items with decent designs, and stat boosts I might bite. But I prefer playing and finishing the game “naked”.

Looks like I’ll be waiting for a GOTY/Complete/Platinum/Ultimate/Whatever edition.

Even the TF2 genuine won’t convince me to buy this DLC-ladened monstrocity.

It’s good they announce such plans with enough time for the preorderers  to have a chance to reconsider, it is the most responsible thing.
