Lost Planet 3 Trailer Shows Bits Of The Game’s Story

By Ishaan . August 14, 2012 . 4:32am

Lost Planet 3 takes place before the original Lost Planet. The game stars Jim Peyton, a Utility Rig pilot on E.D.N. III, and Capcom released a new trailer for it today, which you can watch below:

Lost Planet 3 will be released in early 2013 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

This doesn’t look bad (if not for Spark’s track record I’d actually be excited for this), but I’m gonna miss the direction of the original Lost Planet. Well, not like it was kept in LP2 anyway. Still, this just got even further from it. If this reviews well I’ll check it, because it does look interesting but… Spark, ugh.

Still kinda sucks that Capcom split what I liked about the original into two very different games (this and E.X. Troopers) and we’re likely to only get the lesser of the two.

We’re on the same boat Kano. I too will wait to see what other people think about this when it’s reviewed, although I don’t think Spark can do any worst than LP2.

Man, the differences between the two different series is kinda comical. This looks like a Hollywood action-movie trailer, the other looks like an anime trailer… I have to admit that I’m curious as to how this experiment works out. Will we perhaps see more “split series” like this in the future? Will the east get one iteration of a franchise and the west another? Only the future knows…

    • Godmars

The question is will they do a full experiment? Release both games in the West and East, or only put out the anime themed one in Japan while everyone else gets shooter clone.

      • Göran Isacson

I wonder, I really do. One option I see is that they release the shooter on PS3 in the West first, then give us the EX-version for the 3DS. In Japan they give us the EX-version on PS3 and 3DS, then possibly release the shooter there after EX version PS3 has had it’s run? Basically I’m guessing that if they DO choose to release the games on both markets, they might want to wait so they don’t release two games in the same franchise for the same console-set.

  • Ooh Bee

Wow, looks like trash. Generic trash. NA better get E.X. Troopers. Capcom needs to stop acting like Western audiences ONLY care about generic shooters where the main character is a big guy with a lame beard.

Honestly?  What did you guys expect?  Lost Planet is a terrible series of games.  I’m still baffled as to why Capcom has such a “hard-on” for it.  The first one sucked, but sold alright.  The second sucked harder and bombed hard commercially. Now they are making a third and a spin-off.  Care to guess how these will turn out as well?

    • Domii

I’m guessing it’ll be better than the second that’s for sure.

      • i actually liked LP2 – i mean the boss fights were ridiculous, 2/3 player mecha was awesome and the character designs were bananas – but then again i’m not a fps player (i know it’s a 3ps but the hate i’ve seen comes from fps players) so i must be missing the nuisances that made LP2 garner so much hate… all that being said, this looks like genero shooter which probably means most of the buying public will LOVE IT SO… sigh…

    • spinoff will be fine because it’s not targetted at the west – would be my prediction.

  • Godmars

One, I thought the Lost Planet was earth and Two, where the heck is solar energy technology? We honestly have to travel 2 million whatevers for socket-juice when we’ve got a perfectly good sun?

  • So the direction is survival horror this time? The atmosphere was pretty well IMO.
