By Ishaan . August 15, 2012 . 10:01am

Nippon Ichi Software recently announced that the RPG they’ve been teasing for a while now, The God and Fate Revolution Paradox, is an upcoming PlayStation 3 game. In the game, you play as Renya, a boy who has the power to make wishes come true, and today, NIS showed off the first screenshots of the title:

Renya has a supporting cast of angels to help him make people’s wishes come true. Take a look at them below in sprite form:

Liliel and Sheliel

Kurouel and Lanael

Nelel and Lekiel

The God and Fate Revolution Paradox is being developed by the Disgaea team, and is meant to celebrate the company’s 20th anniversary. Of course, that doesn’t mean NIS will stop working on Disgaea games.

You can tell it is in fact from the Disgaea team, nice to use humanoid design, the games they work on have always had good humans (barely never hardly ever used non humanoids).

  • I can’t wait to see the gameplay now; the game is looking good, so far.

  • $30632660

Those screenshots make the game look like an Online Browser game.

  • Ayaka

I’m in love with this game already.

  • Prinnydoom

Looks good. I am guessing that its an rpg. Looking forward to it.

    • gaiahatergaia

      Why, you don’t say?

  • pgover

These screenshots look pretty good and the sprites look great… still have no idea about how the game is suppose to play like but hey it’s a start. Looking forward to seeing more of this game.

  • Kai2591

    Nice big sprites~

  • PK212

    Looking very nice :)

  • Daniel Morandi

Loving the game already, need gameplay screens but the game already has this beatiful sprites.

  • Hoshi星

Those square-tiles. It definitely an SPRG. Will we be able to throw maids?

    • Hinataharem

      Only if they explode.

  • DesmaX

I have this feeling that, if the had Takehito Harada to do the art, they could’ve just call it Disgaea 5.

I’m definely going to buy this

  • … aaaaand it looks like Disgaea 4. With a different Artist. I don’t know why I expected anything different, but I’ll probably end up buying it anyway.

In any case, lets all pray for a simultaneous PSVita release.

    • TheRealMalek

Don’t pray for it for anything other than first party titles. Porting a non Phyre engine powered PS3 game on vita is all but free…

  • ivanchu77

It looks identical to disgaea 4, I wonder if the gameplay will be very different or not.

btw, that Lekiel guy looks identical to Roxis, lol

    • Glad I wasn’t the only one who noticed.

  • KotaroInugami

  • DesmaX

    I just noticed now.
That box on the top of the image says “NIS”.

    • omeganeko

       Oh yeah nice catch.

  • Cephrien

Lekiel looks A LOT like Roxis from Mana Khe– Oh. Someone already beat me to it.

  • LazuliteLiamz

No wonder it looks familiar. The sprites looks sharper than most Disgaea games, and it looks awesome too, waiting for some gameplay footage :D

  • MrKappa

Not really feeling this. It seems like a filler game so Disgaea won’t get stale.
I don’t know what is going on but it looks like the characters are a bunch of jokers and it is pretty tiresome to run through the same gags like Disgaea all over again.

  • TheRealMalek

Powered by Disgaea 4 engine. Lights effetcs, sprites, colors really feels like disgaea 4.

  • Andres Pena

Does anyone know who did the art for the sprites cuz they look soo much like Harada’s art style, but the art isn’t his.

    • Noizi Ito.
      You’re welcome.

      • Manny Being Manny

And I should add shes most well known for Haruhi and Shana character designs.

    • PoweredByHentai

I would argue that Harada uses a very specific style that employs heavy color contrasts and much sharper faces.

Noizi Itou, however, uses more subtle color contrasts and much lighter line arts.

      • Andres Pena

i know the art isn’t Harada; as Harada is my fav artist, but i meant the sprites , like does like Noizi do both the art and the sprites? Or just the art and someone else does the sprites?

        • PoweredByHentai

I think it is usually someone else who does the sprites.  I can’t recall Harada ever mentioning anything about doing sprite work.

          • Andres Pena

            I seee thanks

  • XiaomuArisu

Disgaea 5:The God and Fate Revolution Paradox
Hoping that it wont be Disgaea with a different name.

  • burnfist23

Nice that we finally have some in-game screenshots, which definitely look as nice as Disgaea 4, but I’m hoping we’ll get some gameplay and some more story info soon.

Also, I’m guessing no one has seen Harada’s latest Summer Greetings card if they’re still asking about Disgaea 5:

  • Mnstrzero00

Crap I really need an HD tv. The sprites on Disgaea 4 were barely an uprgrade for me, as afar as sharpness

  • Shaun Huseman

    haha this looks awesome

  • Yes!

  • SH3

Looks so good, I really need a HDTV soon.

  • $3587643

This is, like, a Vita or PSP game, right? Oh wait no, it says PS3 right there. Keep on rocking the cutting edge, NIS. Keep on rocking it.

    • Fitzkrieg

       Where’s that dislike button….?

      • $3587643

It’s almost like you have no actual argument to defend NIS’s persistent lazy design choices, so you’re forced to make trite, failed attempts at wit instead of responding to anything I said.

        • M’iau M’iaut

I’m not quite sure if we can make the claim of lazy design choices based off of 6 screenies. I’d say the earlier OP hints  the moe loli maids are hiding a far deeper story. None of these angel meidos are the girl we saw before.

        • If you look closely, the text and portrait resolutions are higher than what can be practically rendered for PSP. Besides, graphic resolutions aren’t the sole deciding factor of a game’s overall quality.

          • $3587643

That’s a fair argument against making it directly for the PSP. I can see why they should have just released it directly on the Vita, as it’s clearly a portable game.

I’m not concerned about the resolution. I’m concerned about the dimensions. NIS is determined to stick with 2 after most everyone has moved to 3. And they’re no Vanillaware, either.

          • Well, if that’s the visual style they choose, that’s that. As long as they can present their titles well, it doesn’t really matter whether it’s 2D or 3D.

        • Fitzkrieg

Fine, I guess I’ll give an argument if you REALLY want one.
I know for a fact that a lot of people, myself included, are rather tired of seeing people complain about N1’s refusal to adopt the ‘cutting edge’ as you put it. Why should they be required to move to a 3D art style simply on the merit of it being current when 2D suits the aesthetic of their games as well as their choices in graphical style perfectly fine? As crazy as it may sound, having a high poly-count isn’t what makes a game look good.

  • looking forward to it :D

  • As long the gameplay is not like Disgaea I’m fine with it. Or else it just another Disgaea.

  • Zonic505

Sounds like an interesting concept. Make the gameplay different from Disgaea and I’ll be convinced.

  • Very nice, can’t wait to see it in action =)

  • Solomon_Kano

Ok. So now that we know it looks good, I’m hoping it’ll play like anything other than Disgaea. It would feel like a bit of a waste to me since we already know the Disgaea team has plans for D5. I’d still check it out though.

  • RadShiro

If it’s just a turn based RPG with Disgaea 4 sprites I would be SO happy.

  • komiko12

I can already sense that it will have the same comedic feeling in the script.

  • Darkrise

I get the feeling that the gameplay is going to be Disgaea-style. =/ Not that I have a problem with it but something new would be great.

  • I don’t get why they insist to make PS3 games with this pixelated graphics, like you’re playing a Psone game! Can’t they simply smooth the graphics keeping the stylised-anime graphics?

    • M’iau M’iaut

I would suspect it is a design choice meant to appeal to the JRPG/anime/manga hobbyist. It’s not so much a situation of ‘wow, now we can do this’ but rather what works well with what we are doing, and what do our customers expect.

There are things that can be done artistically with pixely sprites that lose some of their impact when done in higher res, IMO.

  • Kitestwinblades

Sprite style looks a LOT like Disgaea 4(along with a few poses… I’d recognize the first two anywhere lol) only less sharp. But because of this, It only makes me more curious to see some gameplay. I mean its natural for it to look like a Disgaea game, but I’m dying to know how its going to play out :3

  • Instant angelic name, just add -el.
Nice one @Nyanyaan:disqus    Angel Meido lol.

  • Do I sense a hint of Disgaea in this title? If yes, then NIS, by all means, TAKE MY MONEY!
