Ragnarok Odyssey Mercenary Edition Comes With Soundtrack CD And Art/Strategy Book

By Ishaan . August 22, 2012 . 10:30am

Xseed have announced a “Mercenary Edition” of Ragnarok Odyssey. This version of the game will cost $50 and will come with a soundtrack CD, a Mercenary Guide book with art work and strategies, and a pack of 10 random Monster Cards. The standard version of the game will cost $40.

Xseed haven’t announced a release date for Ragnarok Odyssey yet, but it will be available sometime in October. As reported in the past, the North American version of the game will include all free expansions on the cartridge itself.

Update: October release, according to Xseed.

Only $10 more? I’d happily pay that much for a bunch of extra swag.

  • All free patches/expansions are included on the cart, but not necessarily all free DLC. All DLC that’s free in Japan will be free here, but it won’t necessarily come right on the cart.

  • lorelai4cuties

    is it available on amazon?

  • badmoogle

So is this game another Monster Hunter clone or does it have something different to offer?
Is it more RPG than action?

    • Just like Monster Hunter, its pretty much another Phantasy Star clone. But this one is the closest thing you will get of a MH game in the Vita for now.

      • Barzh

Thank you for addressing that bit; many forget that before MH, there was PSO.

    • Xeawn

It’s more like a clone of Shining Force Cross with Phantasy Star elements. It’s pretty phenomenal all things considered.

      • badmoogle

I’ve never played either game. :o

I haven’t been keeping up to date with this for a while now, but is there any news on a European release or shall I be visiting Mr. Import?

  • Ladius

Know what? My preorder was just upgraded from one copy to two copies just to support a company still able to bring us great physical editions of niche games such as this :) This is the XSeed we know and love, I really hope Ys Celceta gets the same treatment when it’s announced.

Of course I have nothing against dd-only releases of extremely risky (or PC) games, but considering how some XSeed interviews painted an (almost) digital-only future for that company it’s nice to see announcements like this.

    Upgrading to Mercenary Edition!

I’m glad to know when the game comes out in the US now! ^_^
With Pokemon Black/White 2… I need a second job now!

  • Jake Deerberg

Guess it’s time to put in my pre-order

  • CrossZX

That looks awesome! I really hope that we’ll get that edition in Europe as well. Well first someone has to actually announce the game for here -.-

  • neo_firenze

I think there’s room for several genre entries, but the more this release date slips the more I could imagine some people deciding to skip Ragnarok Odyssey in favor of Soul Sacrifice and some potential Vita MH (not that a Vita game is the most likely announcement at this point, but Capcom did recently reiterate that MH news for the West is coming this year).  Part of why Ragnarok Odyssey succeeded in Japan was due to it being the only MH-like near system launch.

Anyway, as is always appropriate to show Xseed that Falcom support is important, I leave you with a plea for YS CELCETA, TRAILS IN THE SKY, ZERO NO KISEKI VITA!, NAYUTA NO KISEKI (mmm just picked up the import this week and can’t wait to dive in).

    • TaintedSeraph

Monster Hunter seems to be becoming a Nintendo exclusive. Monster Hunter 4 has only been announced for the 3DS after all. The MH news is probably Tri-G for the 3DS.

      • neo_firenze

Yeah, but I wouldn’t put it out of the realm of possibility to see MH return to Sony handhelds.  Sony certainly would have an interest in paying Capcom to make a Vita MH, and they’ve had a good relationship before with MH on Vita (and some Vita cooperation like SFxT Vita).

If I was guessing I’d say MH4 3DS in the west is most likely, then Tri-G 3DS, then a Vita game.  But none of those announcements would really shock me.

And besides, whether it’s Vita or 3DS… the mere presence of a MH game on EITHER system is a market force that can affect sales of a similar genre Vita game.  A lot of people own both systems and might not want to get the “MH Clone” when the real deal is out there for a system they own (or could buy).

Aff im so pissed. Amazon, as usual doesn’t ship to my stupid country. Play Asia don’t have it yet. I want it badly. This is my reason to buy a Vita. I need this version.

    • Ladius

Videogameplus.ca will surely have it in stock in due time, and it ships internationally. It’s actually a great site for anyone interested in US import games, even if it’s Canadian :)

      • Ricardo Guedes

i dont know which country is yours, but Estarland.com ships to Brazil for only US$ 10,00

        • Marcelo Henrique Chaves

Thanks for the reply. I already knew Estarland.com, but they don’t have a great line up of releases, especially limited editions. But i’m checking anyway.
I’m refreshing every website pre-orders page till i can find one that ships to Brazil with a reasonable shipping price. =)

        • Ladius

I’m not from South America, so I mentioned a worldwide import site known for its focus on niche games and limited editions :) Of course Estarland could be better if Chaves is Brazilian and if they stock this edition.

      • Marcelo Henrique Chaves

Thank you for the indication, didn’t know about that site. I’ll keep an eye on it and try to order.

  • Go2hell66

awesome, so its coming in october? was getting a bit scared after they were being so secretive with the release window :/

was gonna get the HK version but last i checked it was only JP version on their psn, guess i’ll have to wait

  • Visa Vang

Time to go get my PSV. Good games are coming out.

  • Jazlynn Lim

I sooo regret importing the Japanese version now…

    • PoweredByHentai

I imported the game when it came out in February.  I don’t regret it at all since I get to show off the game to my friends who are interested but can’t read Japanese.

  • Solomon_Kano

    Only $10 more? Must get.

  • Testsubject909

Ah, finally some info. I’ve had this pre-ordered for a while, specifically the Mercenary Edition. The guy at the counter told me there was an LE for 10$ more, but I couldn’t find any information on it, still, I got my money down on it.

So an artbook/guidebook and soundtrack with cards huh? Sweet

  • knowing freakin Xseed who canceled GKH. I am expecting this to be delayed in october, and Can’d in November.

    • Ladius

GKH’s situation was Vanillaware’s fault, not XSeed’s, as clarified multiple times. XSeed had already translated all the in-game texts, but Vanillaware hadn’t the manpower to insert them back into the game’s code since they can’t afford it and are devoting all their energies to Dragon Crown’s development.

  • Gotron Tenkaichi

gamestop has the original and mercenary edition on their site scheduled for october 16th so yea
