New Super Mario Bros. 2 DLC Stages Are Still Coming, Says Iwata

By Ishaan . August 29, 2012 . 11:26am

New Super Mario Bros. 2 will receive new downloadable Coin Rush stages at some point in time. No announcements pertaining to this were made at last night’s Nintendo Direct presentation, so Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata, took to Twitter to shed some light on the matter.

Since it’s only been about 10 days since the U.S. and European releases of New Super Mario Bros. 2, Iwata asks for a little more time before any DLC information is announced. What he does say is that a DLC announcement will be made worldwide at the same.

Last night, Nintendo also announced that players have collectively racked up 57.6 billion coins in New Super Mario Bros. 2 thus far. Advanced play videos that will teach players how to collect coins better are coming soon.

Just finished the main story mode, and I couldn’t even collect more than 15,000 coin. It doesn’t seem like I’m gonna pick up the game again any time soon.

5.76 BILLION. Remember, we got an update on Sunday proclaiming over 5 billion coins worldwide.

And what happened with their eshop test ? Was it a success in North America? Because i can tell you that in latin america they are asking on many countries to pay almost 60 dollars for it ( for example in Mexico it costs 800 MXN on the eshop -_-;  1 dollar = 13.5 MXN approx ). Our Gamestop wannabe stores are selling it the physical copy for the same price as the digital one, so you can imagine the rage from some fans.

I wonder if it´s like everyone says, that it´s all fault of the latin american Nintendo distributor “Latamel” -_-

Are there any plans to add challenge stages?  That interests me way more than the coin collecting.

I’m close to giving up on 2d Mario.  They are fantastic games, but they’re also resting on the laurels of the good design decisions made 20 years ago.  It’s getting to the point where I think, I can play good levels with the new Mario game, or I can play great levels with almost identical combat in SMB3 and SMW, and without the irritating need to go check every corner of the level for star coins to open up the best levels.

Maybe I should download the Kaizo Mario games.

I know 2d Mario sells better than 3d Mario in Japan, but come on, once upon a time Mario was a series that moved gaming forward.  Why is Mario suddenly so obsessed with flagpoles?  They’re not that good an idea, they just happen to be the best they could come up with in 1985.
