Grandia And Other PSOne Classics Now Compatible With Vita In U.S.

By Ishaan . August 30, 2012 . 2:50pm

Earlier in the week, Sony made a version 1.80 firmware update available for the PlayStation Vita, and began to make PSOne Classics compatible with the device. While Europe saw more than 100 Vita-compatible PSOne games, North America only saw a handful. Today, Sony have added a few more to the U.S. compatibility list.

Here are the PSone games that are “officially” compatible with the Vita thus far  in North America:

  • Alundra
  • Arc the Lad II
  • Championship Bass
  • Extreme Pinball
  • Grandia
  • Hi Octane: The Track Fights Back
  • Klonoa: Door to Phantomile
  • Magic Carpet
  • Medal of Honor
  • Medal of Honor Underground
  • Nuclear Strike
  • Oddworld Abe’s Exxodus
  • Oddworld Abe’s Oddysee
  • Populous-The Beginning
  • R4 Ridge Racer Type 4
  • Rayman 1
  • Rayman2
  • SimCity 2000
  • Soviet Strike
  • Tekken
  • Tekken 2
  • Theme Hospital
  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six
  • Tomba!
  • Vanguard Bandits
  • Wing Commander IV

Sony say they’re doing their best to make more PSOne Classics compatible with the Vita “as quickly as possible”. Keep in mind that if you already own any of the games above on a PSP or PlayStation 3, you can re-download them on your Vita for free, or transfer them over from your PS3.

Glad they got Grandia compatible, one of the games I’m looking forward to playing most out of the PSN titles. Loved Grandia II and III, can’t wait to play the game that started it all.

  • Herok♞

Klonoa is always good fun, now I am just wanting for Crono Cross Vita.

  • CirnoLakes

Yeeeeeah. I was just replaying Grandia.

It’s too bad about the voice acting. But still a great game.

  • BelmontHeir

They actually released Klonoa as a PS1 Classic in NA? Where was I when that happened?

  • Ricardo C

I dont care for any of these games. Make Parasite Eve 1 and 2
“officially” compatible with the Vita Sony and I’ll see if I’ll get the Vita. >:B

  • Corey Letcher

downloading Grandia this moment and maybe Alundra afterwards, its been a few years since I played through either of them and I need to kill some time for torchlight and borderlands after all and I think I may actually have missed that awful voice acting too

  • burucchi

    Come on, Sony, I’m waiting for Wild ARMs 2. Definitely grabbing that one when it’s up, it’s one of my favourite JRPGs and the Vita screen does WONDERS, so I really can’t wait to replay it. Now if only I could dream about a WA2 remake or a new entry in the series… ;_;

    • Ricardo Guedes

if you have a ps3, you can transfer it to vita (download the game, but dont install it on ps3)

  • I’m wondering…why do people worship Tomba? I never played it, but I know some folks who are praising their higher powers for the release of Tomba.

    • LunarKnite

Because it’s such an awesome game. It’s fun, quirky, and the protagonsit has pink hair, I’m sure that answers your question.

    • Rei

It’s a fun game. One of the best games on PSOne seriously :D

  • zerotaine

    final fantasies 7,8 and 9 work >.>

  • Learii

    Grandia hell ya

  • TiamatNM

Sue is the best everyone else sucks =D

  • kupomogli

So the best game on the PSN PSOne classics is officially available. Arc the Lad 2. If you have a different opinion, you’re wrong. Just kidding.

Brigandine Grand Edition for Japan’s PSOne classics. I would love if someone was to buy this IP and remake or rerelease the game in 16:9 for Vita or 3DS. Have infrastructure and adhoc, or even adhoc only if it came to that. It’d be even better if they allowed switching between Legend of Forsena and Grand Edition rules(Blue~Red, White~Black/Blue>Red>Green, White~Black, certain character class changes) as well as switching between soundtracks.

    Somebody start a kickstarter.

  • justin :) :) i love this game not to mention the amazing theme song

  • rinalicat

I want to play Grandia 1 again! Please bring this to the EU!!!

  • Shiro

every game is compatible, just not licensed on the Vita.

Just connect your Vita to your PS3 and copy over the game, thru the Application transfer in the Content Manager

    • Ricardo Guedes

this doesnt work with every game, like Grandia (have to download from PS STore), Chrono Cross and Final Fantasy V. (USA)

      • Shiro

have you tried moving over the preinstalled versions? when they are in the bubble.

  • LazuliteLiamz

I’m probably one of the minority here, I would love to play Legend of Mana. I never finished the game, can’t remember why. Too bad its not compatible, not even through PS3 transfer :(

  • ooh green hair.

  • Matthew Dickinson

Why don’t they just put all PS1 games onto the online store? All the ones that don’t have licensing issues.

If it’s a matter of bandwidth costs, I would think that it is only ethical to charge a company based on how much it costs Sony to host it — how many downloads it gets.

  • GibbRS

I got Suikoden working on my Vita last night, even tho it’s not “officially” supported.  What I find weird is I can’t copy any PS1 games to my Vita unless they’re in the “just downloaded but not installed” state.  I have 17 PS1 games installed on my PS3, and it won’t let me transfer any of those.

    • Ricardo Guedes

some time ago, when final fantasy v launched, there was a patch that wouldnt let you transfer installed games to psp.. i had to download everything again..

  • sorry double post

  • Grandia is NOT working on the Vita. I just DL it, and left it as a bubble on the PS3. I DO have the 1.8 Vita update (as my Threads of Fate works), but I searched in the same section where ToF was, and then everywhere else and it’s just not there. Can anyone confirm they have actually played this Grandia on their Vita through this method?

    • Ricardo Guedes

i’m playing it right now… (USA)

  • i’m suprised none of the ff series are there(i hope they become compatable), i would love to play xenogears and legend of mana again though :)
