Marvel vs. Capcom Origins, a downloadable compilation of Marvel Super Heroes and the first Marvel vs. Capcom game, has a release date set for September, Capcom announced today.

Both games in the compilation have been updated with online play (using GGPO) with 8-player lobbies and a spectator mode. Dynamic challenges and replay-saving have been added as well.

Marvel vs. Capcom Origins will be released in North America for the PlayStation Network on September 25th and on Xbox Live Arcade on September 26th. It will cost $14.99 (or 1200 Microsoft Points).

Oh, the screenshots of the arcade cabinet below? That’s described as an “old school over-the-shoulder view” and will be one of the options present in both games.

I love the different viewing options and I like the addition of the meta-game stuff. I will probably pick this up even though my favorite, MvSF, isn’t there, but I have to hope that, with all those options, they allow me to simply play the game without any borders, filters, or tickers in a 4:3 ratio.

Well, don’t find it hard to believe if Capcom’s PR Dept. would claim, “MSHvsSF is technically a vs SF game, by the virtue of X-Men VS SF, being the prequel.”

      • thaKingRocka

I would love similar treatment for those two games in a package. They are both my preferred titles of the versus series.

…only to play the team of Magneto/Storm in X-Men vs SF?

          • thaKingRocka

I’m not following you. I usually like to play Sabretooth and Dhalsim or Cyclops and Zangief. In MSHvSF, I loved using blue Sim and Gief on the Saturn with the occasional messy run with Norimaro.

UPDATE: Oh, I gotcha. I don’t play competitively; I just play.

          • Just Tim

It’s a joke, since Magneto and Storm are the 2 most powerful Marvel chars (aka High/Top/God Tier) in X-Men vs SF.

  • Wow.  So finally a reason not to use Kawaks for either game?  AND using GGPO?

    Looking forward to it.

  • Capcom did better upscaling jobs recently… Jojo and this one look pretty good. unlike SF3.

    • Just Tim

Well, it doesn’t help to SFIII’s image, since it’s previously a financial flop…

Gotta admit that while “over the shoulder mode” looks like fun, I wonder how smooth it actually PLAYS.

  • I am soooo getting this.
