Ace Attorney 5 Is Coming To The West

By Ishaan . September 5, 2012 . 5:03pm

Following a report by Pocket Gamer that Ace Attorney 5 for the Nintendo 3DS is being released in western territories, we decided to write in to Capcom ourselves, in order to confirm the situation.

Brian Keltner, PR Manager at Capcom, confirmed to us:

“Capcom is planning to release Gyakuten Saiban 5 (Ace Attorney 5) in the West. We’ll have more news soon.”

As previously reported, Phoenix Wright will return as the main protagonist in Ace Attorney 5. The game takes place one year after the events of Apollo Justice. You can read more about it here.

    This just made my year.

  • SantiagodelosSantos

I was pretty sure it was coming out in the west. People seem to like to act like if one title doesn’t come over then the series is doomed for eternity. (in the west)

    • Yeah, when the sequel to the spinoff on a dying system doesn’t get localized, assuming that the next proper entry on a system that’s just hitting its stride wouldn’t come out here is ludicrous.

So, that means that both Professor Layton and Ace Attorney are both going strong over here. Level 5? Capcom? Make it happen.

    • ThatBlackGuy

Well people tend to overreact it nothing new.

    • It’s Capcom. That’s why people were concerned.

  • imaguni

I thought the chances were good but there’s nothing quite like getting confirmation that a game you’re excited about will get localized. :D

Question is when can I pre-order it?

  • SaiyanJedi_Trunks

No Objection here…and honestly it is to be expected.

I know that Miles Edgeworth 2 did not make it over…however, most of the fans (me in particular) loved the formula of Ace Attorney better…so I am happy they bringing it over.

Now I just wonder if this is to be the planned “finale” we are waiting for or if there is more story to be fleshed out after this.

  • Deal06

This news just convinced me to buy a 3DS.

  • Jonathan Keycross

“The 3Ds, as a new console, has more chances to localize new games because the platform is still on testing grounds”

Glad to know that whoever said that was right.

  • Simon

i still want investigations 2, it would be nice if they released that while we wait for 5 to come out.

    • They shouldn’t get a cent until they make right with this. Releasing one game and excluding another without addressing it at all is a slap to the face to the customers. Unless it wasn’t very good or something.

    • Grenalie

Not happening, best you’re gonna get is the fan translation.

  • Arizato

I am so glad I kept my 3DS.

Also, we have a fan-translation project working on AAI2. So I am not that salty about it not being localized anymore.

  • scratchbach

This is usually the part where I’d beg for GK2, but…
Thank you Capcom. Seriously, thanks so much.

  • Shiki

A new game for my sweet 3DS , can it get better than this ? i hope for more .. capcom ,  ” cough” MONSTER HUNTER PORTABLE 3RD “cough”

    • Don’t you mean Tri G?

      • Shiki

No! i’m not planning to play Tri G until i finish P3rd ( I’m giving up thinking about the localization though , i think i’ll import it )
But seriously! , any MH release is fine with me .

  • Shadowman

  • MrJechgo

Just make sure that you get Sam Riegel (Phoenix, UMvC3), that would be an awesome package.

  • SirRichard

Hell yeah, that’s awesome news. Confirmed it pretty early too, given that we haven’t even seen the game in action yet. I wonder how far along in development it is, given that we only saw it for the first time yesterday (and first heard of it back in January).

  • piichan

Like we would take no for an answer. But still great to hear an official confirmation.

  • kylehyde

Capcom, shut up and take my money and this time you have my permission

    • Luna Kazemaru

You just gave me a better version of my own thank you

  • Tales_of_Master

[email protected]$#[email protected]$%$^q45qttq>>r24v12………r3cv4124##@#@SD???? **** YEAH!!!   Is this seriously happening ? I can’t believe it. Capcom giving us a confirmation on localizing the game before we even see the first trailer ? My faith in Capcom just got renewed. This a happy day for the gaming community :c

  • Remember that plans can change and often do.

  • ivanchu77

A new Phoenix Wright game? with Phoenix as the protagonist? and it continues the official storyline instead of being a spin-off? LOCALIZED?

  • Zonic505

Amazing to hear confirmation of the US version so quickly after all the new info we got. Now to wait for the trailers & such.

  • thaKingRocka

    I am a happy man.

  • Sheimi12

This is Great news! Now give me a new Monster Hunter and I will be content with my 3ds until the next generation

  • Luis Camargo

They were fast with confirming the localization. Hopefully the american release date isn’t much away from the japanese one.

  • Xerain

I only played the 1st one, though owned the second. I have some catching up to do.

  • seraphinw1

    Oh gracious jubilation!

  • Lisa Fraulein

    Yes. yes. yes. YES!

  • Testsubject909

And now… I shall proceed to plan the purchase of a 3DS in the near future.

Hey Aoshi, didn’t you say you had a 3DS to sell? If you have no OBJECTION then I’ll be glad to TAKE THAT from you, but you’ll need to HOLD IT for a while for me to get the money.

    • s07195

I see what you did there.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

With this, people who keep having the thought that this game is not coming here can finally stay calm there.

  • Guest

Yes! My dream of seeing OBJECTION! in 3D has come to sweet fruition. I hope the next localization confirmation is EX Troopers! Mad love Capcom, thanks.

  • British_Otaku

I semi-forgive your antics, would like if you fixed your 3DS record at least by getting Legends 3 done (I was going to buy it even without a 3DS or buy a system for it)…

    • Solomon_Kano

Now you know that’s never happening man lol.

      • Vyrus

It doesn’t hurt to be wishful thinking.

  • Shane Guidaboni

Sweet! Let me get this straight, though. Capcom can already tell us we’ll get this, but they can’t even tell us when we’ll be getting another Monster Hunter game. For shame.

    • Solomon_Kano

As we’ve clearly seen over the years, Capcom doesn’t approach all of their series the same. Be that in the manner they announce them or any other.

Mind you they have one Ace Attorney game to pick from on 3DS and 2 MH games, and we certainly won’t get both. Capcom has said they have something to announce regarding the series, so there’s really nothing else to it but to wait. Now, whether you believe them is a whole other matter.

  • TruSpindash

Great to hear localization news so soon, I’ll have to make sure to play Apollo Justice before It’s released.

  •  Ace Attorney fans get in 24 hours what MH fans have been waiting 2 years for.

    Thanks, Capcom.

    • Well, We Ace Attorney fans have been waiting for Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth 2 for sometime as well now.

      • True enough but when another game came out you guys got the word immediately after the reveal via LEAKED MAGAZINE SCANS. We’re closing in one year on MH3G, 2 on P3rd. MH4 has been known for a while and we’ve not heard a single word about that from Capcom either.

Don’t get me wrong AA5 is cool and all, but damn would MH fans like a break like this.

        • I can understand you. I’m waiting for Capcom to say something about Monster Hunter 3G and/or 4 as well with regards to Western localization. But I remember a Capcom-Unity forum thread stating that we can expect an announcement before this year ends. I’m pitting my hopes on that one. It will be utter BS if Capcom will say by the end of the year that there isn’t really anything to announce.

“MH4 has been known for a while and we’ve not heard a single word about that from Capcom either.”

We can say the same with AA5 and AA vs Layton as well. They were announced this January and last year respectively, and only these past few days did we hear a lot more concrete about it. And Monster Hunter 4 and 3G got a lot of news, well in Japan, via that Capcom Jam event. But yeah, none in the west. But I will wait.

        • WingsOfEternity

I’m PROBABLY wrong about this, but I assume that AA and MH are in completely different “departments”(the gameplay is practically polar opposites…) and each of them can decide whether or not the game should be localized, with one department’s choice of localization not having any effect on the other department’s choice.

eg. Project Soul team localizes Soul Calibur games but this probably does not influence the chance of localization of Tales games because that is decided by the Namco Tales Studio, It MAY have influence on the localization of Tekken because they are both fighting games but it won’t on Tales games because they are JRPGs. You can’t blame the entirety of Namco Bandai.

  • I try to refrain from adding useless comments but I can’t contain my joy.  I TAKE BACK (most of) THE BAD THINGS I’VE SAID ABOUT YOU CAPCOM.  For a little while.

  • Tom_Phoenix

I expected as much, but a confirmation is still VERY much welcome.

  • TheRealMalek

I’ll wait until it has a release date in europe before letting my joy running wild.

    • digitaldevil0

      From kotaku article:

“A Capcom representative also clarified that they use “West” to refer to both the U.S. and Europe.”

  • LaserVision

Hopefully the long break in between games and new graphical style will result in an increase in sales since it gave people time to miss the series. It’s worked for other games before.

  • Well, that didn’t take them too long to announce, did it?

  • CrossZX

I feel like a child at christmas (or any other occasion where you get something awesome)!

  • SupaPhly

theres still a chance for AAI2 to be released on the eshop, right?

  • All is well in the video game industry.

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;;;O;;; SO EFFING HAPPY~!!!! XD

    Wait. If this is definitely coming to the west, then… doesn’t that also pretty much confirm Layton VS. Ace Attorney, too???!! I mean, I know that’s being localized by Level-5, but…!!!!! ;W;

  • ParaChomp

  • I’m so happy! :) Can’t wait to add this to my 3DS game library!

  • I’m going to keep my excitement as brief as possible…
    Thank you.

  • how about Gyakuten Kenji 2 aka AAI?
