Capcom And GREE Partner Up For “Capcom All Stars” And Other Social Games

By Ishaan . September 5, 2012 . 11:00pm

Capcom and GREE are teaming up to release six social games based on popular Capcom brands on the GREE platform by the end of 2012. Three of these are scheduled for release in the west as well. Here’s what they’ve got planned:

Minna to Capcom All Stars:

120905a A social game starring characters from Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, Ace Attorney, Asura’s Wrath, Darkstalkers and other Capcom titles.

Minna to Houkago Soul Hunters:

This one’s more interesting. It’s a social game where players aim to become the most powerful “Soul Hunter” at school, and fight “Daimajin” by teaming up with friends. Players collect Soul Hunter cards to fight demons, and Demon cards that represent monsters. Soul Hunters is slated for release on October 10th in Japan.

Minna to Daikoukai Frontier:

No details have been provided about this one yet. This is another Japan-only game.

The three games that Capcom say will also be released in the west are Monster Hunter Massive Hunting, Resident Evil Vs., and Dead Rising: The Survival.

Resident Evil Vs.:

Dead Rising: The Survival:

Monster Hunter: Massive Hunting:

We covered Monster Hunter: Massive Hunting and Resident Evil Vs. last month.  You can find more details on both those games here. Capcom say all six titles will be released for GREE by the end of 2012, with more to follow.

Before anyone asks, no this is not “the” Monster Hunter announcement for the west.

    • Ace Trainer Chris

I dunno. Capcom said “top men within Capcom thinking about the future of the Mega Man brand and where it’s going” only to then crank out absolutely nothing but a social RPG for the iOS.

      • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

Social games with re-used assets are pretty easy to crank out. It doesn’t say anything about the future of the series at all. You guys need to stop reading into stuff more than necessary.

        • Ace Trainer Chris

It certainly does when they haven’t had anything planned for close to a year now, released only iOS games and have an overpriced soundtrack collection reprint as the only item celebrating the series’ 25th anniversary.

          • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

One series going a particular way doesn’t mean another series is guaranteed to follow that pattern…

  • http://innerchildgamer.com Doc@ICG

I mainly hope these do well just so that they can fund localization for console/handheld titles. :)

  • pgover

Looking at that Capcom All-Stars art REALLY makes me wish it wasn’t a
Social Game for a phone. I mean, the idea of many of Capcom’s franchises
being in a cross-over like that really seems like a concept that should
be in a PS3/X-Box 360 game (or at least a 3DS or Vita game).

Also I feel that… wait a minute… that third pic… is that… is that Ruby Heart the Pirate? Ruby Heart from MVC2? She’s finally gonna appear in another game? I did not see this coming.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Hiks while DeadRising Survival and Monster Hunter: Massive Hunting looks great there, I am really interested with Minna no Houkago there.

Hope that Capcom will also bring that one here.^_^

  • Internet is Crash

wow Ruby Heart has her own game :) Now what’s left is Amingo..

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

      about time

    • zferolie

I was surprised to see her. Thought she would die as a fighting game only character.

… still, this is for a social game, and I loath social games

  • raymk

I saw this on neogaf and boy was I tricked by someone there :(.  They had me thinking these were actual games not social games.  Anyway glad to see ruby heart getting used again and I hope that we get that game.  I’m sad that the capcom fighting all-stars game isn’t a real game either but a social game :(.

    • http://twitter.com/samael789 samael789

Why are social games not “real” games? Think hard about this one.

      • ShinGundam

What the hell is “social” game anyway? I know action games, adventure games, RPGs, etc…

        • Luna Kazemaru

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_gaming You know Google is your friend right?

        • http://www.silconera.com/ Tsunami_13

Yes, although Luna’s link does help, as well as a little research beforehand, don’t get discouraged to ask a question if you find yourself in need of further clarity. That’s what a community is for, to help and inform.

…and of course occasionally get at each others throats :P

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

you forgot the D in the of GREE. Ruby Heart with her own game glad to see shes not forgotting

    • http://twitter.com/#!/kaishou Kaishou

That was SERIOUSLY NOT NECESSARY. Stop making these kind of comment because it’s getting really stupid.

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

come on can’t take a joke? I was kidding

        • http://twitter.com/#!/kaishou Kaishou

uh..wait…what? that was a…joke? seriously? attacking a mobile platform then saying it’s a joke? huh? what?

          • ShawnOtakuSomething

you really just called that attacking? At what point is that comment vulgar

          • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

We’re not talking about vulgar language. We’re talking about unwarranted condescending mockery that can be just as offensive.

          • ShawnOtakuSomething

One sentences that meant to be a joke and you guys are taking it way too seriously.

          • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

I dropped in mainly because you’ve been saying similar things across mobile game threads. Even if you intended them as a joke, disrespectful words are still disrespectful.

I’ll drop the case here; just keep in mind that, even without this case, your tally is already close to final count.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-de-Groodt/100000446926616 Mike de Groodt

Shawn… No offense but it’s getting lame and redundant

          • ShawnOtakuSomething

Geez tough crowd…. fine I’ll stop with the bad corny jokes

          • http://twitter.com/#!/kaishou Kaishou

but that’s not even a..jo…ugh as well as corny.

    • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

What is it with people attacking mobile/social game platforms? Seriously.

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

there cheep and easy to make  who knows these might be good

        • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

Because they look simple and low-budget compared to big releases, that gives people reason to mock them? God forbid an independent creator made a game within his own available resources, or even a big company just wants to make a compilation of mini-games for pure fun.

I’ll appreciate it if you don’t make comments like these again. We just got past all the iOS complaints about various series, and you know console war/bashing/complaints aren’t appreciated here.

          • zferolie

I for one don’t like social games, but I can see why people make them. They make a lot of money, and are easy to make. That’s good for small companies and such. If people want to make them, go ahead.

However, I probably will never by or play one. I personally feel that a lot of them are just quick cash cows devoid of any love and soul to them. That just may be me being bitter after seeing my friends get sucked away and waste hours and lots of money on facebook games like Mafia wars and farmville. so I may be biased against them. That being said, if I see a great social game I will support and buy it, but right now I have not seen one.

  • GameTaco

Now all we need is for the Capcom All-Stars to face off with the Marvel Super Hero Squad and my heart overload will be complete.

But yeah. I’ll reserve judgment until I see how these Capcom social games pan out. I mean, if you churn out half a dozen or more within a four month period, one of them *has* to be good, right?

  • Göran Isacson

On the one hand- social games, games that have a reputation for being very little GAME, very much moneytrap that encourages you to buy advantages over other players and who rewards timesinking and online payments instead of gameplay skills. This makes me heart weep.

On the other hand- Asura being in a Capcom crossover game, and Ruby Heart potentially getting her own spin-off series? I won’t lie, that sounds pretty sweet. I just hope that these games end up being actual fun/.

Also, curious as to what Frontier is about and why it seems to be the only game not based on existing IPs and characters.

  • Zonic505

Ya know, despite being for iOS (don’t worry, I’m not gonna say “iOS = not real games!”), I’m rather interested in seeing how Capcom All-Stars (Asura! Side Arms! Tech Romancer! Ingrid!! That little girl from Gotcha Force!!! When was the Capcom remembered Gotcha Force?!) and Great Ocean Frontier (Ruby Heart finally returns!? That’s awesome!) play.

& hey, a new IP that looks slightly interesting. Maybe if it’s popular or at least the characters, we could see them makin’ cameos or appear in crossovers.

  • Jon McGuire

    WHOA WHOA RUBY HEART

    WAT

  • ParaChomp

So Capcom finally decided to take the Smash Bros. route as opposed to the crossover route?

  • TheGameTagerZ

    Was the “GREE” a typo?

  • DemonKingAsura

    A Wild Asura appears.

Day one Buy already if it comes here, just for him being there.

here is what everyone knows thus far about the game:
