Toki Or Towa… Which Will You Choose In Time and Eternity?

By Ishaan . September 5, 2012 . 10:00am report that, in Time and Eternity: Toki Towa, you’ll be asked to make a choice. You’ll need to choose between Princess Toki or her blonde-haired alter-ego, Towa, who she turns into, in order to seek out revenge after her fiancée is killed on their wedding day.

One of the two, say, will disappear at the end of the game. No specifics are provided as to just how you’ll make your choice or if any other factors during the course of the game will influence it.

Time and Eternity: Toki Towa will be released on October 11th in Japan.

Can… can both stay? I feel like I’m killing off one of them and keeping the other. :<

  • Zeonsilt

They both are pretty and charming. Hard to decide~

  • PoweredByHentai

Where’s the option to separate the two girls/entities and then have a harem ending?

    • Luna Kazemaru

       Not happening

      • PoweredByHentai

By the Hentai powers vested with me, I shall make it happen one way or another.  :D

        • Luna Kazemaru

           Game: sorry still no

          • Colonel Custard

Rusheel: Well then there is only one thing left to do.
            Game: What?
Rusheel: I’ll substitute your reality with my own.

  • omeganeko

I would find a magic potion to split them into two and save both with my super mega hyper awesome time beam……or choose towa, which ever one is easier.

(must be weird playing through the whole game knowing that one is going to vanish at the end)

  • Daniel Morandi

    Towa, give me that blonde.

Dunno yet will have to play first. :P

  • Lol, spoilers here too.
Famitsu today is being a bi….nevermind.

I think I would choose Towa, because blonde and crazy.

Btw, are we past calling that failure of a prince a ‘player’ character?
I mean, it’s pretty clear from all the materials so far that the main characters are Toki and Towa, right?

    • Göran Isacson

Truth be told, I think they mean that the prince is a substitute FOR the player themselves. Meaning that while we never PLAY as him, he is nonetheless going to feature prominently and get to make big decisions even though he’s not the one going through time and space to fight fate.

Which when you think about it is a kind of hilarious metaphor for how the player of these games are just people sitting in their rooms being useless and the true heroes are the characters doing all the fighting, but it doesn’t exactly make for an endearing character…

  • Why we can’t just have both of them??

    *sigh* Multiple play-through Toki 1st.

  • andref

So reminds me of Jade Empire choosing whether to have the good demon possessing the little girl or the evil demon possessing her. Kind of interesting having to go into her mind and choose to support one of the demons fighting for control. But certainly choosing a permanent personality in this game probably has a reason too. Two personas might have odd results on a person’s ego

    • sunK1D

Good demon/Bad demon? Ahh the subtlety of things nowadays.

  • Crimson_Cloud

Wait a minute… wasn’t this already revealed a few weeks back? I have a major deja vu flashback happening right now…

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

just call this Moe’ the video game

  • Jonathan Keycross

To sum up what I understood up until now about the game.

The player assumes the role of Protagonist, the blue haired prince that is killed before the adventure actually begins. With no protagonist, his fiancee with a personality disorder takes up the mantle and uses her magical powers to travel through time to try to save his life, ignoring the possible unintended consequences of her actions and the already known enough possibility of causing a time paradox if she is successful in her quest.

Did I miss something? The game already looks interesting enough though.

  • pgover

So at the end of the game one of her two personalities becomes dominate and the other disappears entirely? Well i guess that’s one way to get players to go through the game more than once.

As for which one i would pick, presently I’d pick Towa because of my love of tough girls but I’d have to play the game to truly make up my mind.

  • KilsanZ

    Toki,gimme that fiery hair

  • Lazulis

It’s like Catherine, only they both look the same except for the hair.

Also, you can’t go to space to be a pimpin’ space bachelor.

So it’s Toki or Towa? You have to choose one, huh. I’d choose Towa. Blonde and kickass! Not to say Toki doesn’t kickass but, Towa just kicks more, hehe.

  • Somazu

how about an ending where they fuse into the orange haired Tokiwa?

    • Shhh! Don’t spoil the true ending!

      • MrJechgo

        WORD !

But honestly, that could be a possibility, or even a new game+ with a new character that wields both girls’ abilities.

    • Or, or have them magically split into two and “poof”. Glorious harem ending fa life with two wives =^_^=

  • Just Tim

Why do I get the vibe the dude stays dead, either way? :s  He’s like the Kenny McCormick of this game.

  • ok, a little spoilers warning wouldn’t hurt even if the developers announced this via megaphones

  • artemisthemp

    Towa clearly

  • $36598391

I wonder if this will come out in NA

  • Darkrise

Haven’t we been through this topic already? Oh well, Towa for sure.

  • personablaze

    Red heads for life!

  • MrJechgo

Well, let’s look at it this way: it’s the same girl, just with dfferent abilities. So regardless the one you choose, you still keep the same girl as a playable character. You’re not losing someone.

Also, there’s magic in this world, so they could just troll us about being able to change her appearance from one girl to the other without changing her current abilities.

In the end, she’ll have to make a choice in life and will have to stick with it as she can’t turn back once it’s chosen. However, she doesn’t lose her life nor sacrifice someone else’s life to save the world. The player doesn’t get screwed by that.

    • In a way I understand what you’re saying, but somehow its still sad though =(

    • Göran Isacson

I do hope you’re right in this speculation, because all the promo materials so far have lead me to believe the two are separate identities and kind of their own people, and leaving it up to the guy who apparently isn’t even around for most of the story to pick which of them “lives” or “dies” just feels… incredibly skeevy.

      • MrJechgo

Here’s something: both girls wear the exact same outfit, down to even the hair ornament. Toki and Towa are two sides of the same coin, that I’m positive.

The whole thing that people worry about is that they think they’ll “kill” one girl so the other can save the world and live on. That’s not the case here, because that girl is the same person regardless of seeing her as one or the other. If Toki and Towa were seperate entities, then yes, people would have the right to be pissed off because they likely try to keep both girls alive. Here, however, the player will just have to make a simple choice: live the life of a princess or live the life of a mercenary-like warrior.

I’m pretty sure that the girl isn’t dealing with a split personality which has her hearing voices of the other self in her head or losing control over the dominance of the other self during her journey. Maybe she gains that power to switch from one side to the other, but in the end it comes with a price: her live as a princess or the loss of this power for good.

For a technical point of view, however, in a JRPG, there’s nothing more annoying than losing party members permanently, you agree with me on that one ? That you temporary lose some, it passes, because you either reclaim them later or they’re reclamable via sidequests, which in this case, the risk of undertaking these sidequests rewards you with the return of a party member back on your turn until the end of the game, possibly with an alternate ending. For that game however, you’re not losing a party member, but just a moveset. Compared to actual party members, you can brush it off pretty smoothly.

        • Göran Isacson

Mmm, that’s pretty much my stance in a nutshell. If they ARE actual personalities, which I guess is what multiple games with this trope have conditioned me to believe, then I am kinda weirded out by it. But if it’s JUST a question of giving up one moveset (and possible future in life) for good and focusing on another one, then that’s far more palatable.

And yeah, permanent party member loss is something that I feel Final Fantasy has done well, aaaand about no other game since then. I sure hope that you’re right on this one.

  • Me: Yay! More TokiTowa info! Always happy to see that! =^_^=

    (Reads post)

Seriously though I really can’t choose right now. I mean I can, but only ascetically. I would like to get to know them both before sort of “Killing off” one of them.

    “Sigh” Thanks Famitsu. (Sarcasm)

  • TheFoolArcana

    Toki cuz Kana Hanazawa

  • ruzanco

Towa… probably. I feel like she’s the tsundere-type which I like.. but hey, its a game! We can replay it again and then I can go with Toki too! <3 Hopefully the localization of this game will be finalized so we can play it in English… We'll goodbye Japanese voices ^_^;; haha

  • XypherCode

    Both! Hell yeah! xD

  • 猫 黒

Wow.  I thought this would be a typical JRPG, but that’s pretty deep.  I hope there’s actually a significant impact on the plot, instead of just “choose a girl”, maybe like in Braid, do you rewind time or accept the past.  What do you choose, Time or Eternity? 時か永、遠か 、どちらの方を選ぶ?

  • $24431191

I’d need to play the game and see each of their personalities first. Though right now I’m leaning more towards Towa.

  • shuratan

Towa-sama all the way for meeeeeee~ I’ve always liked melee somewhat more than ranged~

  • Nice spoiler right at the start of the topic and gives further details when you enter the post.

Not that I hadn´t foreseen it ending like this but not knowing would have been way more interesting and experiencing it first hand on my own.

Now I have to wait untill the brain cells that read this die of so I can play the game afterwards being luckily ignorant of how it will end.

  • save a 2nd game b4 the decision
    get both

  • Stranger On The Road

this will be one of those times where I will have to play the game twice to get the other ending.

  • I’m going to aim my phaser at Towa and set it to ‘tsun’.

  • Pichi

I’ll choose Toki. She looks like she matches more with the outfit. Subject to change the more we get to know the girls if they have a different persona.
