Resident Evil’s usual Mercenaries mode is back in Resident Evil 6, but Capcom are adding other multiplayer modes to the game as well, as post-launch DLC. There are three of these—Survivors, Predator, and Siege Mode.
Survivors mode is a solo and team-based versus mode, but with a slight twist. If you get killed, you respawn as an enemy character and get to attack the other human players. If you manage to take two of them down, you’ll respawn once again as a human. The winner of this mode is the last man of team left standing.
Predator mode lets a player control the Ustanak, which is a B.O.W. that stalks Jake throughout his campaign. Again, the player controlling the Ustanak tries to take the other players out, while they attempt to either stop him or survive until the end of the game.
Finally, Siege Mode lets you play either as humans or enemies. As a human, your job is to protect a single NPC. If you play as a member of the enemy team, your job is to take down this same NPC. The winner is decided based on whether the NPC gets killed or if the human team manages to protect them.
As mentioned above, all three of these multiplayer modes will be released as post-launch DLC for Resident Evil 6. The catch is that the Xbox 360 version of the game will see them first, as a timed exclusive. All three modes support up to six players and will share maps with Mercenaries mode. Capcom say more Mercenaries maps (which can be used with these three modes) will be added to Resident Evil 6 as post-launch DLC.
Resident Evil 6 will be released on October 2nd for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in North America. A PC version of the game will be made available sometime in the future as well.
