New Super Mario Bros. U Trailer Demonstrates Boost Rush Mode For Speed Runs

By Ishaan . September 13, 2012 . 10:04am

This morning, Nintendo shared new details for New Super Mario Bros. U, along with a trailer for the game. First up, is the trailer:

As detailed in previous reports, New Super Mario Bros. U lets up to five players play at once. Four players use the Wii Remote to play, while the fifth uses the Wii U GamePad, and can use it to manipulate the environment, by creating blocks, distracting enemies, finding items, and so on.

The game also has a Boost Rush Mode, which involves cooperative speed runs where up to five players have to coordinate to complete courses as quickly as possible. Boost Rush Mode puts you on rails, which means you can’t stop running, and as you collect more coins, you run faster and faster. There’s a Challenge Mode, too, which requires you to complete specific trials.

New Super Mario Bros. U will be a Wii U launch game, and will be released on November 18th in North America. You’ll be able to play it either on your TV or on the Wii U GamePad screen. The game will also allow you to play as your Mii.

Boost Rush and Challenge mode both sound cool. I’m hoping both modes are available for every level, and that there’s a wide variety of challenges. Coupled with the star coins and obvious not-so-secret world(s), there’s be quite a lot of replayability and difficulty in this game.

Above all that, my favorite part of the trailer was the indication that the final boss fight MIGHT be in Peach’s castle? Small, but interesting twist. I actually hope that’s the case.

ps. those personalized Koopaling airships are rad.

This game looks much creative and ncier compared to the NSMB2 on 3DS here.^_^

Different team really can come out with a different concept even if the game had the same basic aspect here.^_^

    Well there goes my wallet……again.T_T

And again my wife will refuse to play because there isn’t a female character to play as.

    DLC maybe.

    • PreyMantis

She can just use her Mii. Problem solved.

      • Brimfyre

You can’t do that in NSMB Wii can you?

        • ParaChomp

           Wii, no.  U, yes.

          I stand corrected, sir.

That’s what I don’t understand…. why not Daisy? Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Daisy. It would be like the US version of Mario 2!

    • ParaChomp

       What genders are Miis?

    This game IS different.
Bowser invades Peach’s Castle, and chucks Mario and pals out, rather than kidnap her. Does this mean that the final level will be in Peach’s Castle?

I smell lots and lots of rage coming from this mode.

Shigeru Miyamoto; “Our current story is that the seven Koopalings are not Bowser’s children. Bower’s only child is Bowser Jr. and we don’t know who the the mother is.”
