PlayStation Vita Platformer, Dokuro, Headed To U.S. Next Month

By Ishaan . September 14, 2012 . 10:00am

Game Arts’ second PlayStation Vita game was a platformer named Dokuro. As previously reported, in Dokuro, you play as a love-struck prison guard who helps a captured princess escape the confines of the prison. It was released in Japan back in July, and now it’s headed to North America.

Gung Ho announced today via the PlayStation blog that they will be releasing Dokuro in the U.S., along with a more detailed explanation of how the game plays. You can read up on further details here.

Dokuro will be released in North America sometime this October as a downloadable game on the PlayStation Network. You can find a trailer for the game here.

Awesomeee, I was just playing the Japanese demo (which was surprisingly in full english) the other day. I almost bought some JP PSN cards for it.

  • Why does it have to be October?! My wallet can’t take this no more.

    • Yeah I think they should have released it  a bit later even Ragnarok odyssey is coming out in the same month.

      • There’s even the New Little King’s Story and Assassin’s Creed: Liberation. Little Big Planet is also pretty much released close to October.

        • heartless141

it’s almost holiday season, and they need as much titles as they can before than for the console boost, i think?
if a non major no hype game is released during the holiday season, chances are it will be outshined by Dudebro stuffs like CoD and FIFA, etc.

          Look on the bright side.

You’re complaining that there’s too much as opposed to complaining that there’s not enough.

          • True, but never once have I nor will I ever complain that there’s not enough, (well, money) not with my gaming backlog. I guess it’s about controlling my impulse to spend and buy them asap on release days.

  • And it happened RIGHT after I ordered it from Play-Asia… and my copy’s already in the mail and probably arriving today or tomorrow. Figures. XD

Still, good for Game Arts and GungHo! It looks like a great game and one that should have been on the PlayStation Store last month.

    • Ha ha well at-least you get a physical copy and the game has an english option anyway.

      •  I actually JUST got my physical copy. Today’s a day off from my day job for me and the mail JUST arrived with Dokuro in it.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

This is really a nice news for VIta here as i am really interested with this game when i get my Vita here lol. And the fact we use prison guard rather than normal prince makes this games looks really unique for me here.^_^

the game is a perfect ICO in 2D. i’m on the last levels now. was really touching.

    • Wow that’s something.

    • xavier axol

how long did it took you to get to the last level?

      • heartless141

Total playtime is 14 hours now.
I still have like 7 really hard stages I haven’t done. Just skipped through em all to get to the boss. Regretted it. The last few stages really build up the bond between you and the princess.

So yeah. Expect around 15-20 hours of playtime

        • xavier axol

that’s great!, i was expecting your typical short download. but this isn’t the case here, i’m happy to say “i will get this game, first day!”

        • HassanJamal

holy crap, i thought it would be 6-8 hours of play time based on the demo but 15 hours?! Im totally buying this after LBPV and BL2.

          • heartless141

keep in mind that this is a puzzle game. so it’s depends on how good you are entirely.
i’m probably above average, and haven’t waste much time.

the thing about the game is, right when you thought it gonna end, they throw new epic elements into the game and change the whole puzzle game completely.

what i recommend is get all the collectible coin as you go through it. they are usually just an extra jump or an extra block to push, nothing too much. and don’t skip any level. most of them are pretty straight forward, not strictly timing  or perfect jumping or anything.

and then there is trophy, add to the replayability.

i’m thinking about doing a video walkthrough.

note that there’s a trophy for total gameplay time = 250 minutes, but i really doubt you gonna get that in one go.

          • HassanJamal

Woah woah, no need to tempt me even more! Loved the demo too. Thanks for the infor heartless141 :)

  • Spider-Man

The girl reminds me of a anthro Xenomorph.

    • You pervert!

      • Spider-Man

        • Testsubject909

Glad to see you don’t deny it! Good good, that’s healthy.

  • SirRichard

Now just make the next step, fellas, you’re so close and my Vita is crying out for anything!

  • Ace

There we go, gimme more reasons to want a Vita!

  • Herok♞

depending on the price I will get this if it is $15 or $20 otherwise I will import because its only $30 for a phyical copy

    • Solomon_Kano

I can’t see them charging over $20 for this. That’s been the cap on digital-only Vita games so far, and I can’t see this being the game to push it over.

  • TwGok Rip off? I’d rather have a Twgok game!

    • heartless141

      facepalming so hard right now.

IQ+1 info: Dokuro means skull in japanese.

  • AnimusVox

    Daawww skull dude is adorable.

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

Sweet! My Vita’s gonna get a heavy workout next month with this, Ragnork, AC:L, NLKS, and more. Thank you developers!!!

  • Hoshi星

Hahaha I imported the game last week. Still waiting for it.

Will it be available in all 8 languages?

  • xavier axol

    SOLD!! (°-°)/

  • Solomon_Kano

Yay! GungHo and Game Arts keep delivering for Vita, so I’m glad that it looks like all of their games will be localized.

  • brian yep

I saw this and KNEW it’d be digital.
    Oh well.

  • Lazulis

Well, I knew it was going to be released sometime Fall 2012…October hm?

I can’t wait! I usually don’t like download only, but for Dokuro, I’d make an exception.

  • Göran Isacson

Interesting- so the skeleton may be getting the power to turn into a hunk from a rival(?) to the demon king? Wonder what her involvement in the story will be… and I also wonder how the relation between the two will play out. I dunno about you, but I am kinda leery of most “ugly guy gets beautiful girl” because most of them end feeling like there’s this undertone that the ugly guy DESERVES the beautiful girl, she doesn’t love him for who he is but because that’s how a story like this SHOULD end. But still- I’m always willing to give interesting projects like this a chance, and hopefully it will be released in Europe and be awesome to play and experience!

  • Testsubject909

Basically this game is: “Friend Zone, the video game”

    • psycho_bandaid

Abandon all hope ye who enter the friend zone…

  • Alright, I Like how were getting some more Vita Games:) And right around my Birthday to boot.

  • Amine Hsu Nekuchan

If I hadn’t already bought a 3DS this would have seriously made me question which system to buy first.

  • dexter_lab

I’ve got the platinum in this game and it’s a very good game.
