Stan Lee, renowned for his contribution to the comics industry, including co-creation of characters such as Spider-Man, the X-Men, and other Marvel superheroes, is working on a video game.

Titled Verticus, the iOS title is a superhero game with characters, story and even voiceover by Lee. You play as a superhero in a high-tech jump suit fending off an evil alien race. The game involves a free fall through the atmosphere, and you have to avoid obstacles and attacks along the way, while collecting materials to upgrade your suit with.

Verticus will be released this fall. It’s developed by Dallas-based developer, Controlled Chaos Media. You can watch a trailer for it above.

That looks really fun!  Thought it was gonna be some Tron knock off with FPS controls when I first saw the teaser image on the main page, relieved to see its something much different.  I really am gonna have to concede and actually get an iPod Touch or an iPad (even though I cant stand Apples price gouging and proprietary accessories) for all these games that seem to be coming out only for iOS, while all but ignoring Android :(

The final level has you smashing headlong into Steve Ditko’s grave.

    • And the Final Boss will be simply be known as… “B.E.N.D.I.S.”

  • Reminds me of that one game… If I remember correctly, it’s called “AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAA“.

    …”aAAAAA!!! – A Reckless Disregard for Gravity“.

Gotta admit, a game in which you freefall in order to, I assume, build up power to drill into the Earth’s core IS a pretty novel idea.
