Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward Amazon Pre-Orders Come With Wristwatch

By Ishaan . September 17, 2012 . 10:40am

Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward will have an Amazon-exclusive pre-order bonus on both the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita, Aksys Games have announced. Pre-ordering either version of the game will net you this real version of the bracelet-cum-wristwatch featured in the game:

Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward, a follow-up to 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors on the Nintendo DS, will be released in North America sometime this October. Europe will get the game in November, courtesy of Rising Star Games. You can read our impressions of the game’s demo here.

Like 999 before it, Virtue’s Last Reward is being directed by Kotaro Uchikoshi, who is recognized for his work as one of the story writers on Ever17. The game will have 24 different endings.

Gah!  Now I have to decide whether to get it for Vita or 3DS.

    • Rishtopher

Still trying to decide myself. I have access to both : I wish there was a demo comparison between the two. I might lean towards 3DS since I’m accustomed to how 999 played on it. Also, the Vita’s trophies (if any) wouldn’t be tied to my account since it’s not my Vita.

      • drproton

If the graphics aren’t remarkably better on the Vita, I’ll probably go with the 3DS.  I think the 3D adds to immersion.

        • Kefkiroth

If Time Travelers is any indication, the difference will be night and day:
Of course, in the end it really depends on how well the game is optimized for each handheld.
Plus in my opinion 3D is nice, but battery-draining, so I usually turn it off. I won’t be using it for long periods of time either because of the small viewing angle you’re forced in.

          • drproton

Yeah in that screenshot, the difference in texture resolution and color reproduction is extremely apparent.  From what I’ve seen of Zero Escape the they are using the same assets across platforms, but with AA on the Vita version.

Sound is another issue.  The Vita sounds a little better for voices than the 3DS in my experience, but I haven’t made a perfectly fair comparison.

          • Rishtopher

Ok, I’m convinced, Vita it is. You and @drproton:disqus convinced me. It’ll also give me an excuse to borrow the Vita so that I can play Gravity Rush.

      • Kefkiroth

If you care about trophies at all, then it wouldn’t matter for 3DS, because there is no trophy system for it… Plus, there’s a demo for the Japanese Vita version on the PSN, and the 3DS demo review link is in the article, but I haven’t played the demos for myself.
I’m personally leaning towards the Vita version because my Vita library is suffering in comparison to my 3DS library, and the games will most likely launch at the same price like most Vita and 3DS games ($40).

    • Do you own both systems already? If you do, then I suppose it would be entirely up to personal preference. 3D on one system vs. higher resolution visuals on the other. Also, dual screen vs. single screen interface.

If you’re going to be purchasing a 3DS/Vita for this game specifically, I’d probably recommend 3DS, since your purchase implies you’re into adventure games, and Ace Attorney 5 is coming at some point in the future.

      • drproton

Yeah, I have both.  First world problems right?

This generation seems like it’s going to be fantastic for handheld gaming fans like myself.  Even though so many people are down on both the 3DS and the Vita, I think they’re great.

        • Hmm. I don’t think that people are “down” on the 3DS, necessarily. I mean, what you see on the Internet isn’t the actual audience, you know? The same goes for the Vita. If you look on a few websites, you might think that there’s a lot of interest in the Vita, but the sales say otherwise.

But yeah, I think it’s great we’re getting so many fantastic portable games, and across so many different genres, too. That’s kind of what I love about portables in general.

          • drproton

I suppose you’re right.  It certainly warps your sense of reality when the communities that you consider yourself a member of turn out to share wildly different opinions and voice them loudly.

I’m the type that will happily play any genre of game on any platform so long as it was made with care, so it gets frustrating when you see things like the response to Bayonetta 2, or more related to this thread, the usual negativity seen when discussing the 3DS on the internet in 2011.

          • Yeah, this is why we tend not to pay too much attention to the net/forums, and generally encourage other people to do the same. The perceived reality on a lot of online communities is often very different from the actual reality. It’s unfortunate when wrong information spreads itself around that way.

    • Kefkiroth

Unless you care about 3D and dual screens, I’d say go for the Vita
version if you own both consoles. As a Vita and 3DS owner myself, I
can’t even begin to express the difference in quality of visuals, due to
the Vita’s OLED screen and of course raw power.
      Plus, I wouldn’t
expect either game to have much of a difference in gameplay, and especially because Vita games and 3DS games usually launch at the same
price ($40), I think it wouldn’t hurt to go for the visual upgrade.
Another reason I’m going for the Vita version in my case is because my Vita library is suffering compared to my 3DS library.

  • Victoria [Rokuso3]

     What? 24 ENDINGS?! Wow.

    •  if its anything like 999 then most of the endings are basically the same bad ending just at a different place

      • Brandonmkii

I don’t even think you’ve played the game.

  • DuskSharkEX

The 3DS version seems to be unavailable…please tell me there will be more…

  • uhh, i’m kinda an idiot, but is this a real watch or just a bracelet<_<

    • It’s a real watch.

      • Budgiecat

Can you get it for me please

        • While I’d love to help, I have quite a few other financial responsibilities, so I tend to be a fairly conservative spender. I don’t even see myself getting this at launch, unfortunately. :(

  • kuroneko0509

3ds version not even available on amazon… only vita version… what happen??

  • rinalicat

    …I just want the watch.

  • Enma_Kozato

I missed out on the first watch, but I’m not gonna let that happen this time around. I heard there were problems with Amazon’s page for the 3DS version, although that doesn’t affect me since I’m going for the Vita version.

  • ThatAzure

Sweet!~~ I’m so excited to play Virtue’s Last Reward~! I loved 999 so much; it’s one of my favorite DS games XD(besides Hotel Dusk, Last Window, and the Endless Frontier games).

  • Syltique

    Pre-ordered.  I need a watch.

  • Göran Isacson

On the one hand, I would like that watch. ON the other hand, I would very much NOT like to be forced to partake in Saw-like survival games. Decisions, decisions…

  • Ayaka

Oh gosh I waited so long for this to be announced…
I hope they do the same for the European customers, last time we missed the promo because of difficulties with international shipping, but since it’s Amazon and not the producer this time… we should have a chance I think!

  • Will be kinda weird switching from double screen to one screen, but I’m going for the Vita version, as it really needs more attention, my 3DS is busy enough.

    • Syltique

I went for Vita as well.  I’m a little more interested in seeing how it’s going to feel without the stylus.  Most of the gameplay is just kind of poking around the room for very tiny little areas that respond.  With a giant finger poking around, is the game going to be easier?  Who knows.

I’d like to hear about the differences if anyone actually gets both.

  • I’m European and I absolutely want that watch. ;__;

  • I just hope they will release it in Europe. They MUST release it in Europe.

  • Dammit I want that watch now!

  • DuskSharkEX

  • pressstart

The watch seems nice. Too bad Newegg doesn’t have it. I think I’ll keep my $10 off preorder over the watch :(

  • 24 different endings with 22 being the same bad ending just a bit different

    •  …yet always so delightfully gruesome and deeply disturbing ^^; Can’t wait to stumble across them all and if the true ending is as cleverly hidden as in 999, that should be a breeze :D

  • FX102A

Amazon won’t ship either version of the game overseas. Why’d they have to choose an import unfriendly retailer (I know the answer and it involved a sizeable brown paper bag under an elaborate door)?

Well Rising Star, get cracking and get those watches across the pond.

    • Enma_Kozato

That’s not exactly true. I live in South Korea, but I can order from Amazon and a plethora of other sites due to an APO address.

  • I hardly ever pre-order games, but I’ve suddenly been convinced to.

  • herolove

I like portable games so after my ds broke I have been thinking of getting a sd3 fore a wile now, but I’m always low on money.  This game made me decide to get one before the year is over.

  • Lazulis

Oh, the official announcement finally came out! My friend and I went to Aksys’ panel at AX, and they said that they put in the specs for the watch for a manufacturer. We could have had needles included, haha!

    Hum…3DS or PSV…what to do, what to do…;___;

  • I’m going to get this, but for some reason actually putting on the watch seems like it’ll raise a death flag =P

  • Solomon_Kano

That’s an awesome bonus! I’d probably never wear it, but physical bonuses are always cool. Especially when they’re actually something from the game.

    • Shiki

      I actually wasn’t planning to pre-order the game ( my wallet is dead ) , but after i read this , unconsciously , i pre-ordered it
Now i have to borrow some money from here ‘n there lol .. but it’s totally worth it , just looking at the pic makes my mouth drool , haha , i can’t wait till i touch it XD

  • Barrylocke89

Shoot. I was going to wait until after I got a 3DS to get this game, but now I may have to get the game before the system!

  • Chow

As with 999, doesn’t seem to have this (though wasn’t the watch a GameStop-exclusive last time?)

  • TheSquishyTanker

It looks like Amazon doesn’t have it for 3DS or Vita…? I shot them an e-mail, hopefully this can get worked out, because I REALLY want a watch.

  • Pre-ordered like a BAWSS.

  • Niermyico

On the product page on amazon it says “Standard” so is it too late or do I just need to pre-order to get it?

    • Shiki

      I just pre-ordered it , and i think  ” any pre-ordering ” is counted

      • Niermyico

If it does then thats fine, i already pre-ordered it anyway.

      • miju

         Nope it’s all out.

        • Shiki

          How come ? O.o

          • miju

It had to either have been preordered beforehand back when there wasn’t a choice in “editions” (in which Amazon extended the bonus to your order), or the bonus edition that was labeled. Preordering the standard edition now gets you the standard edition without the bracelet.

          • Shiki

            That sucks TT.TT
Well , I pre-ordered it on Sept. 17 , so to make sure , I e-mailed them , and now waiting for a response , HOPEFULLY ” even though it’s hopeless >.< " it'll be counted , or i'll cancel it , and buy the whole thing In Stock!

  • Alexandra Cordes

    *changes pre-order to Amazon immediately*

  • I heard about this, but I already payed at GS in full. Plus no credit card. I can only hope… (  u__u) It will go nice with my red one that I can’t ACTUALLY WEAR because it’s so heavy and the straps won’t stay on.

  • miju

  • WingsOfEternity

    aaaaand it’s gone. T________________T

  • Well I was really sick so wasn’t in the mood to order this and ofcourse now it’s sold out.  Oh well, atleast it wasn’t a special edition type game box packaging.  That’s what I’m really a sucker for.

  • ToT I”m just glad they are offering another chance to those of us who missed it~~
