Fantasy Life Trailer Gives Us A Look At Level 5’s Next Big 3DS RPG

By Ishaan . September 19, 2012 . 11:48pm

Level 5’s next major RPG for the Nintendo 3DS is Fantasy Life, a game where you can take up professions ranging from wizard or hunter or mercenary to postman or street performer. Fantasy Life is about “finding your own way of life,” and Level 5 have put a new trailer out for the game at TGS:

Fantasy Life will be released on December 27th in Japan. The game is being developed by Nintendo subsidiary, Brownie Brown, in collaboration with Level 5.

    I want Mother 4…whoops,Fantasy Life!

    However,we’ll probably never see a localization. D:

    • Aoshi00

W/ Amano Yoshitaka and Uematsu too!  Nice music :) Not sure if it’s as story driven as Mother 4.. feels like Harvest Moon too or Animal Crossing.. art looks a bit like Away..

      • Rogerrmark

Oh,I mentioned Mother 4 because of how this game looked back then(a guy looked like Fassad, and some characters looked like characters from Tane Tane island),and because Brownie Brown is co-developing.

But on gameplay,I agree,it’s probably more Harvest Moon/Rune Factory or Animal Crossing oriented.

Really waiting for a localization :/

    • Chiupon

It’s a cute RPG on 3DS and it’s developed by Nintendo or something… If Witches Wish can get localized, this definitely will.

I have zero doubts that we’ll see this thing stateside.

    weeps manly tears
i want this game come on lvl 5 do it !

I was honestly smiling through the whole PV. From the beautiful animation, to its your own way approach, Fantasy Life really seems like my kind of game.

Finding your own way of life sounds absolutely enticing, because that’s honestly what I look for in a game. A game where you play at your own pace, whatever it may be. From chopping trees down, catching that persistent fish, to going on some epic adventure.

I’m particularly interested in a postman’s life, though. It sounds rather lax, but I wonder if it’ll involve delivering packages to some remote, dangerous place. Making a delivery could be an adventure all its own. It’s exciting to think about!

I love the style, and the gameplay seems like so much fun! I’m happy to see the customization, too. Now it’ll really feel like your own. Awesome! (>y<)

    • Rogerrmark

Have you ever played Opoona? It had some similar elements, you had to do part time jobs, met people, battle, collect stuff, although it’s way less promissing than Fantasy Life, imo, most jobs were no big deal, and it really had a slow pace. D:

      I liked it,though.

      • aoihana

Opoona? I’ve never played it! It does have similar elements, but yeah, jobs seem to be much more lively in Fantasy Life, but the whole approach is what’s interesting, I think. Opoona sounds interesting, too, though! I’ll look into it, thanks! (◕‿◕✿)

        • puchinri

It’s definitely worth giving Opoona a try. It’s turned out to be one of my favorite games of all time, between the music, battle system and world/setting.

  • ..she say caca?

    • this your first time hearing japanese?

      • Shesh, hahaha, It was just a silly joke.  No need to get condescending.

  • PreyMantis

Kinda gives me Rune Factory vibe and I’m loving it! If this game ever get localized, I assure you that this will be a day one buy for me.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

This is the kind of rpg i have been looking for recently.^_^ No heavy plot but just enjoying our characters life.^_^

I would love if this game had a choice for us to become “Teacher” lol. I wanted to create my own cult there lol.^_^

  • RaikageV

“The game is being developed by Nintendo”
    I though it’s being developed by Level5.
I guess that makes a release in the west more realistic…

    • riceisnice

It’s a collaboration between Brownie Brown and Level-5. Brownie Brown is the same people who made the Mother series. That just means it’s even less likely to see a western release though! xD

      • Tom_Phoenix

That depends on whether or not half the soundtrack will consist of ripoffs of other songs. Fortunately, Uematsu USUALLY does a preety good job of making his songs sound quite unique, even when it’s preety obvious he was inspired by other musical compositions.

    •  *looks at various Nintendo games gone Japan only*
Hopefully Level5i pushes for it.  Fantasy Life looks like something Nintendo shouldn’t have much trouble marketing.

  • How cute ! It looks so exciting , just like the kind of games i enjoy playing

  • $30632660

This looks like something I would sink hours into and not get bored.

  • Omar

Nice. My gf will fall in love.

  • badmoogle

REALLY hope this gets released in the west.I love the art style and the concept.

  • Mendoza

This is the kind of game I would import a 3DS for.
Please come to the west, please.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

It’s like a mixture of Animal Crossing,HOMELAND and Zelda.

  • Looks awesome. Nice to see Brownie Brown working on a new game!

I’m getting a very Opoona vibe from this game, what with the different jobs and such. I like RPGs where I can spend two hours NOT fighting and still feel like I accomplished something.

    • puchinri

Oh goodness, mentioning Opoona just makes me want it more. And,a ctually, if ArtePiazza and either Level-5 or Brownie Brown (or all three!!) came together to work on a game, that’d be spectacular. (I’m actually hoping ArtePiazza can make another awesome, futuristic title for the Wii U now.)

  • Looks like harvest moon…

  • GameTaco

Oh my gosh, those graphics can’t look any more like Animal Crossing without being the real thing. This MUST be localized!

  • sakusakusakura_nyo

I’d think I’d rather be a wizard than a postman.

  • puchinri

The game just looks so pretty, bright and wonderfully designed. I am so excited, and I really hope it gets released her. Since Brownie Brown is collabing, I hope Ninty will localize it 9if L-5 is unable to themselves).

The only thing I am at all disappointed with, is that it seemed like there’s only one skintone available, and given L-5 added diversity with D9 and did a fabulous job with that (and all the customization) in WKC, I would hope and think that would apply to all of their titles with customization abound. But, I may be wrong (and I hope I am!).

Nonetheless, I hope we get localization news within the next year or so~. To me, this would seem like an opportunity that Nintendo shouldn’t pass up on.

  • Göran Isacson

That was so cozy I felt like I was in a blanket the whole time watching that trailer. Any life you can choose, from postman to adventurer to fisherman to knight… gotta say, I am curious about this one.

    • Settsuo

Same it felt really warm. This is by far going to be an excellent title.

  • Settsuo

    So adorable <3

  • JadeTsukasa

    Animal Crossing+RPG=FANTASY LIFE :D!

  • protofox
