Lo-Res Shin Megami Tensei IV Scans From Famitsu.com

By Ishaan . September 19, 2012 . 11:30am

Last night, a Famitsu magazine leak revealed a fair amount of new information on Shin Megami Tensei IV. Among these details were:

  • Story details
  • Descriptions of the main characters
  • Demon designers
  • Character designer and music composers

You can find all of that information in our report here. Additionally, Famitsu.com have now released official—albeit low resolution—scans of their magazine report covering the game. Take a look at these below, to get an idea of how the game looks:

From left to right: Navarre, Jonathan, you, Walter, and Isabeau.

A single screenshot of the battle screen:

Shin Megami Tensei IV will be released sometime in 2013. You can watch the latest trailer for the game here.

Yep, definitely SJ monster models in effect. I love Isabeau’s design at least.
    (Money on Navarre being Aleph/Hijiri.)

    • Back when they showed that second trailer, I wondered why we didn’t see a strong female lead, but Famitsu’s description makes it sound like Isabeau will indeed fill that role. Nice to see that, since Atlus are among the few Japanese publishers that still make good, strong heroines.

With the exception of Yuzu from Devil survivor 1, but Midori, Mari, Amane and Misaki are among my favorite characters

        • Well, Devil Survivor 1 had a very nice, varied cast overall, so yeah, I think they did OK there. :)

          • Barrylocke89

Out of curiosity, how did you like DS2’s in comparison?

          • Sadly, I haven’t played Devil Survivor 2 yet. Spencer told me it was brutally hard, and I didn’t really have the time to commit to a game that required grinding at the time. :(

          • Shane Guidaboni

I can’t reply directly to Ishaan for some reason. DS2 is definitely harder than DS1, but not brutally hard. If you knew what to do in DS1, just apply those same strategies here and you should be fine. It’s the boss battles that are the real killers. There was one I spent a week trying to beat before I went to forums to find some advice.

          • Morricane

I, on the other hand, found DS2 to be *easier* (just by a little bit) – most likely because I already was familiar with the battle system so the learning curve from the first was gone. Definitely prefer the slowly building up story of the first over the all-out “the world is royally screwed”-in your face from the 2nd, however…

          • I found DS2 way easier compared to the first. Too easy, even.

        • Wondering_Zero

IMO Yuzu got better…A little to late I’ll admit, but she got better. And at least in Overclocked she wanted to set things right after royally screwing everything up.

      • Budgiecat

Japan I guess still likes to cling onto the old stereotypes of weak females sometimes…

Though there’s Syrenne from The Last Story. She’s cool….

        • Syrenne is fantastic, yeah. Calista isn’t so bad either.

          •  I cant believed you ditched Mirania , she totally is raring to kick some arse.

          • Mirania is really… subdued.

(of course, she and Yurick are super useful in battle)

    • LightZero

I was thinking that mystery guy in the MC’s flashback is Aleph/Hijiri. Perhaps he could be the MC’s sensei or something.

  • imaguni

But what will Louis Cyphre look like?

    (Also, personally, I like the protag’s design…)

    • cj_iwakura

I almost forgot about that fool. I’m just hoping this settles The Great War if nothing else.

      • imaguni

         I want to agree but that might get in the way of a potential SMTV… ;_;

    • LightZero

Indeed I also like the MC’s design.

  • Liking the concept and the setting so far. Eveything about the game sounds pretty cool and badass, as expected from a MegaTen game. You’d better localize this, Atlus. And don’t forget about Soul Hacker and Persona: Batsu.

  • Dat press turn battle system!!! :D

Also, I love the outfits the cast members are wearing. The whole futuristic samurai thing to it is amazing!

  • Budgiecat

Why is it medieval and modern at the same time…

    • East Mikado is the medieval-style country that the Samurai come from. Tokyo is the modern setting.

    • Its post-apocalyptic.

  • dahuuuundge

Not sure why Ragnarok only deals 68 damage.

  • I was hoping the battle screen are like Shin Megami Tensei 3, 1’m a bit disappointed.

  • Looking good =)

  • Kamion

Furigana in my Shin Megami tensei?

Yes. Just yes. I’ll actually be able to play this while commuting without fear of hitting a compound I just won’t get without a dictionary!

  • Gintama’s Shinsengumi ?

  • Isaac Newton

Just my honest opiniion why SMT 4 look like it was a ps1 game???
I mean they could do better on the battle system like utilizing the 3D components in battle….
They reverse most of JRPG like 2d sprites for exploration then 3d for battle (eg. Wild Arms 2) but on SMT 4 it is 2d for battle and 3d for exploration I think my head hurts understanding it…..
I also hope that the will re:release the 3d battle for SMT 4…

Could anyone inform me if the 3d rendering hardware/spec for the 3DS is superior or inferior to the PS2?

Forgive if I say I think Atlus mocks the 3DS for not rendering 3D battle….

  • 3rd screen: Halo any1??

Finally a face-to-name post!! Navarre is the green scarf guy eh?? Afro Vincent name Jonathan huh.

I wonder how ATLUS hard is this gonna be? Can some1 give me a ATLUS hard ranking base on DeSu series, Persona series, Demon Summoner series and SMT series??

  • DDanny

Spiky hair is chaos, afro is law
    You know it be true
pompadour is neutral or chaos, the cocky face gives it away
