Namco Bandai have shared the opening movie for Project X Zone, the Monolith Soft-developed crossover SRPG, featuring characters from Namco, Capcom and Sega games. You can watch the game’s opening below:

Project X Zone play similar to Super Robot Taisen OG Saga, another game developed by Monolith Soft. You can read our hands-on impressions of it here.

    LOVE IT!

  • Adrián Alucard

hear (or read) to Harada. He wants the game overseas

    • Jonathan Keycross

“I can understand what you say and what you want to say. But your opinion is pointless. They are decided by relation between cost, and a Genre, and a business plan. It is nonsense to compare this genre with the genre which sells 1 million(like fighting games. But, the localization cost of X zone is very high than “Fighting Game genre”).
Anyway, I proposed localization of X zone promptly. I said. And I always hear fan’s request.
Well.. listen. SHUT UP and Stay tuned.
      I’ll play TTT2 now.”

      • Leon_Tekashi

Welp, that’s one reason why they’re hesitating on localizing this. The price to localize it is pretty high.

      • IshimaruKaito

i wonder if he’s getting frustrated with everybody bugging him so much about the game?

      • riceisnice

         What a meany face.

      • That’s a pretty gruff way of putting it (maybe something was lost in translation?) but you have to admit he’s got a point. Fighting games are a genre that’s relatively popular in the West and easy to localize, being mostly action with maybe a little bit of text and voice acting; this game is part of a far more niche genre (SRPGs) and would be much more costly and cumbersome to localize, as I assume it has a lot of text and voice acting, and I don’t even know how all the characters owned by different companies work as far as localization is concerned. They could always let Atlus or Xseed localize the game, as they’ve done for a handful of niche titles over the years, but again I’m not entirely sure how that works with all the differently-owned IPs involved.

      • Wait, he actually said that?! Why is he being such a jerk about this? I like how he acknowledges our request for a localization but he needs to take a chill pill. Oh well, guess we’ll have to wait until they’ve reached a decision then.

        • Luna Kazemaru

Because he is sick of people bugging him about the samething over and over. You clearly have not seen how many times he had to reply to the same dlc questions over and over.

  • Jesse Torres

    i want this.

  • dahuuuundge

The animation style kind of reminds me of Gurren Lagaan.

  • Jesse

That’s it, Im importing this game, just to have it.

    • IshimaruKaito

      im with ya!

      • Christopher Nunes

        If the 3DS wasn’t region-locked, I would buy/import it in a heart beat. T_T

        •  same here T-T just what the hell were they thinking when they region-locked the 3ds ? Hell the reasons they gave on why its region locked to begin with is beyond me !

          • Christopher Nunes

            There were reasons? 0_0

Seriously, though, what were the reasons to region-locking the 3DS? I can’t even remember what it is if they told it yet!

          •  yes, the reasons were “so that the network tailored specifically for each region to work perfectly” (in which is false because loads of extreme lag from them)

the other one is “Nintendo has developed different versions of Nintendo 3DS hardware to
take into account different languages, age rating requirements and
parental control functionality, as well as to ensure compliance with
local laws in each region”, gotta facepalm myself there because its not really a valid reason, the nds could support other languages just fine, but its not as stupid as the last reason.

the final reason is to prevent piracy…. yeah… how is a region lock even remotely close to preventing piracy…

  • this game is so sick

  • Tales_of_Master

    They absolutely must localize this game, if only so that I can play a game with X and Zero again….make it happen Namco ;_;

  • Spirit Macardi

Meh, the only thing that appealed to me about that was the animation. It has a notable Gurren Lagann look to it, which makes sense since I heard it was made by former Gainax staff.

I still don’t get how this game doesn’t have Sonic or Klonoa. Getting Sega on-board and not having Sonic is like getting Nintendo and not including Mario, and Klonoa has a 15th anniversary this year so it’d make sense to celebrate that in a crossover.

And yeah, I’ve heard the opposing argument that “they aren’t human.” This doesn’t hold water thanks to another Banpresto game in the recent past: Heroes Phantasia. That crossover game was pretty much purely humans as well, but it also included the Keronians from Sgt. Frog! And as fate would have it, Klonoa and Keroro are voiced by the same person.

    • ParaChomp

The animation director worked on a lot of Gainax works.

    • Neophoton

Bonus points that Klonoa and Guntz were in Namco x Capcom.

    • Tom_Phoenix

I don’t see how Heroes Phantasia proves that argument wrong; what they did or didn’t include in that game has no bearing on PXZ’s own roster. A better argument would have been if you said that Namco x Capcom, this game’s spiritual predecessor, had Klonoa.

In any case, the fact of the matter is that the current roster consists of nothing but humanoid (not human, since not all of them are human) characters. Whatever reason for that decision may have been, it’s not unreasonable to think that might have been a factor as to why Sonic and Klonoa aren’t in.

Personally, I suspect the reason might have to do with sprites. While Namco x Capcom also had sprites, PXZ’s roster is easily twice as large. As such, it’s possible that, in order to reduce the workload, they decided to make most of PCs and important NPCs (the ones that have more elaborate animations) humanoid, since humanoid characters tend to have somewhat similar shapes. But that’s just speculation on my part and it could be wrong.

      • Spirit Macardi

Well, my main point is that it’s not like they couldn’t do it. Heroes Phantasia came to mind purely because it’s recent, was made by Banpresto, and it was incredibly shocking to see such glaringly non-human characters appear in it. Plus Sgt. Frog is awesome x3

And really, this roster doesn’t look twice as large. It actually seems a lot smaller to me, probably because there’s less diversity not just in character types but in series represented as well. The gameplay is probably great, but the selection leaves a lot to be desired.

        • Tom_Phoenix

Again, Heroes Phantasia isn’t Project X Zone. Just beacuse they could do it in that game doesn’t mean they can do it in this one. As I said, the fact that the roster consists almost exclusively of humanoid characters is most likely not a coincidence (although I can only speculate what the reason might be).

Also, when I said the roster is twice as big, I meant in terms of raw numbers. NxC had over 100 characters, both friend and foe. It has already been confirmed that PxZ will have over 200.

  • Been waiting forever for this opening movie to be released. Not nearly as good as the one for Namco X Capcom… but still good.

  • Shadowman

That was awesome!! I really hope Harada can help get to the U.S.

  • Namco X Capcom opening still better even after all these years.

  • WingsOfEternity

This is the crossover that will pierce the heavens

  • I’ll be honest, not enough Sanger in the OP. It’d be much better if they had just made a vid of Sanger cutting evil while the others are impressed by his awesome manliness and swordsmanship.

  • AokiShizuku

I’ll be honest. The opening doesn’t have as much flare as Namco X Capcom and it didn’t draw me in. Yes, the animation is good but I feel that the song doesn’t fit with the opening at all. With a game like this, it needs more energy. Something similar to Aoi Kiseki (Trails of Blue Opening) would’ve suited the game more.

  • im sorry i like juri as much as the next guy,but why wasnt sakura the one doing that kick along side pai and ling?they all feel similar…or maybe even chun-li to so they all have the chinese vibe.

  • Nitraion

Hmm NXC opening indeed more appealing but anyway I really2 want to play this game with englisth text of course…XD

  • MrSirFeatherFang

Yes Banpresto! I haven’t played any of your games, but I’ll be looking forward to the damn soundtrack to this!

  • IshimaruKaito

like i said b4 i think all we need are English subs it would b less work for them i would think….and OG Saga was like that and i didn’t mind not one bit.

    • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

But it is more expensive there. As they will need to pay all the seiyuu for the sound license again.

      • IshimaruKaito

        shoot! ur right i forgot!!

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

The animation looks very smooth there.^_^ And i don’t know why here but i kinda likes this OP more than NXC. Maybe because i had more characters that i like on the OP there.^_^

  • Saint_Stahn

Opening looks great. I don’t want to compare to NxC. It’s just different. It’s good. The choreography of the animation fits well with the song especially the beginning. It gets a bit weaker in the end but ends on a high note regardless. All I want to know now is WHAT can we do to support the localization to buy this game here. I already bought my special edition copy for the sake of supporting this. I advice everyone that still cares for this game to do the same. Support Operation Rainfall style. It’s pricey I know, and the 3DS is region locked… But games here in the states are not going anywhere, they can wait. Project X Zone needs the support from the people it’s aimed at right now. So I’m doing, just that.

  • What a great opening. It was 80s anime meets that choppy, action-y style anime that I love. It reminded me of the cut scenes from Mega Man X4.

    • Kris

Yeah, the sound effects nailed that vibe too. XD

  • Fidelis

Welp this basically confirms no Sonic. What a pity. I really wanted to see Sonic in  mainly because how out of place he would have been.

I mean, can any of us really imagine Sonic interacting with a Darkstalkers, Tales, or .hack character?

  • Masengan

    KOS-MOS and X double shot? Nerdgasm…

    • Sakurazaki

      Thought the same thing…

  • Raze

    I dunno why but…
Its kind of sad to see X and Zero in this game…

  • Riseabovethesky

I put the 3D at max but nothing is happening :/ With all the action on screen maybe it is better that way :)

  • IshimaruKaito

    lets pray lol!

  • Go2hell66

Namco x capcom OP was still slightly better but i still love both of them
now namco plz bring this over or i’ll just cry…

  • shindoihayato

Katsuhiro Harada stated in his twitter that he has made a motion to get the game localized. Stay tuned.

  • rinalicat

Oh my God, I love animation!!!!

  • neetyneety

I’m not a fan of the animation, but I do like the song.

  • locust47

Morrigan=the very definition of “Gainax bounce“

  • This needs to happen! ^_^

  • OatMatadoQuatro

Rule #1 of a Capcom video: If Morrigan is in the game, ALWAYS use a extreme close-up to her clea—I mean, face!

    • Derek

lol, Namco made this video but of course you’re right, Capcom don’t want the team to ruin her trademark now or Capcom would of been very angry!

    • Showmeyomoves

      Morrigan has a face?

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

gurren lagann all over the opening

  • isfuturebright

A lot of the characters are known in the west too… I hope they bring this over here. Btw is the final name really Project X Zone? :P

  • Derek

I thought they did a excellent job with the intro. The Namco X Capcom one was bold and this intro adds alot more into it, like the characters lining up drawing their guns and a buildings getting destoryed and even the Space Channel 5 girl having her own specialized entrance.

  • Lionxie

    No Klonoa no buy :o

    • Saint_Stahn

^ This is why we can’t have nice things these days. =(

  • IshimaruKaito

i need this game in my life!
