This week sees the release of another PlayStation 2 classic for the PlayStation 3—Grand Theft Auto III, the first GTA game on the PS2.

Released in 2001, Grand Theft Auto III was the very first full 3D game in the series. Set in Liberty City, it put you in the shoes of a criminal named Claude, who starts to work his way up the crime ladder after escaping a prison transfer.

Late last year, Take 2 also released a version of Grand Theft Auto III for iOS and Android devices, priced at $5.

  • Talk about a game that pioneered a genre and a generation of games. My respect for this game and its’ ambition stands even today. This game was great – for its time. I would find it difficult to really enjoy this game with our standards for this genre today though.

  • Just Tim

My only disappointment is that the in-game rendition of “O Mio Babbino Caro” is instrumental only. :(

Other than that, I already plan to get this, given its influence.

  • Cool, but I already have the PC version which I loved.  But nice for people who want to play this piece of history.
