Naruto SD Powerful Shippuden Trailer Makes Everything Look Cute

By Ishaan . September 30, 2012 . 3:30pm

More Naruto! Namco Bandai’s Naruto SD Powerful Shippuden isn’t developed by CyberConnect 2, though, and it isn’t a fighting game either. It’s a super-deformed side-scroller that’s based on the Rock Lee spin-off manga series by Kenji Taira. Take a look at the game’s latest trailer below:

Naruto SD Powerful Shippuden will be released in Japan on November 29th.

  • Really upset that Namco has Naruto on Nintendo systems now. I was hoping Tomy would move it’s NGNT Series to the 3DS. Then maybe create a brand new engine for the Wii U. I would love to get some 4 player Naruto fighting online for once.

    • British_Otaku

There were two CON/GNT games which supported Online, Gekitou Ninja Taisen Special and Clash of Ninja Revolution 3. Did neither of them support 4 player matches online?

Would have expected it as 4 Player (albeit local) has been standard since the second title… >_>

Wish CON/GNT got more exposure and continued getting games… I assume there isn’t any chance of NB calling Eighting up and having them continue… The games don’t look as appealing as Storm, regardless of how brilliant the combat is.

      • Asura

I want a PSN port of GNT4, haha. That alone would make me happy forever.

        • British_Otaku

I’m more or less physical release forever, but I could cave in for that.
Why not own the GameCube version and a digital copy when it’s that good?

          • Asura

I DO own the GC version. I used to play it on my Wii with a couple friends until I moved to another state and now lack friends to play it with. PSN HD-remastered port with online play (good netcode though) would make me happy forever.

          • British_Otaku

I didn’t doubt it. People don’t mention and push an obscure Japanese only release Naruto game which has numerous sequels inside of and outside of Japan without having advanced knowledge and perhaps owning it.

Just saying it is a game may go against my policy for (no downloads) and I may get on a whim such as liking the game that much and perhaps the addition of an online service.

Connections are becoming tougher for everyone, those relatives and friends are now going to other cities to study or you are or something. Considering, not many of us had consoles either expensive current systems or older ones, it has always been my home or nothing… >_>

Online adds potential worldwide or at least region wide, but it isn’t the same as a bunch of people who can’t rage quit in the same way as the online FGC seems to offer.

they were good but incredibly slow to up date and lacked any significant fan service to the point hat it felt like i was still playing gnt4 for many years

    Is Rock Lee that popular?

    • British_Otaku

Basically, for a new magazine (not Shonen Jump but Saikyo Jump – same publisher), they decided to run a series of spinoff manga some based on ongoing works and some on closed works from Shonen Jump.

Rock Lee ended up getting his own spinoff manga done by Kenji Taira (an assistant on the actual manga) which aside from being a fairly assuming parody, was imho the best manga in that magazine (the One Piece spinoff is godawful and the Dragon Ball one took a while to get any direction) and got an anime (which is somewhat infamous for taking Bleach’s timeslot, but they would have moved it if they wanted to).

The anime has passed 26 episodes with 27 coming this Tuesday.

As far as Rock Lee, his popularity used to be in the top ten consistently ( ) in the WSJ Japan polls but you should know how little exposure or time he is getting. Kenji Taira simply took a quirky character with some following and has built a parody story around him where the side characters can have more presence and gags fly all over the place.

Even if Rock Lee’s not the artist’s favorite character, Ten-Ten keeps getting being ignored for some serious character development.

        • British_Otaku

For what it’s worth, Tenten gets some love in the Rock Lee spinoff manga and anime. Team Guy are more or less the main cast with Lee and Tenten being the most likely duo you would see.

There is some character development there too for her (and others), though it isn’t anything which is ever too heavy that the story bends around it.

On topic for the original story, yep, Kishi has a way with the ladies. Favourites or otherwise.

          • sd28

yep like the whole breast hammer thing

  • Göran Isacson

So even in the game based on Rock Lee’s own spin-off… Naruto still gets more powers and top billing. Oh Lee. Yours is a sad, sad existence.

still, kinda interested in this since, if rumors are true, this is apparently being designed by Inti creates and I have yet to play a game from them I’ve disliked.

    • Tsuna Sawada

      What games have they made?

      • Göran Isacson

The Megaman Zero/ZX series is the one I know them the most from. They know what makes a 2D action game tick, if those games are anything to go by.

    • Anime10121

Its not a rumor, in fact, its the only reason I’m looking forward to this game.  Inti creates knows their 2D platformers (I just wish Capcom would’ve let them do a console Megaman that played like ZX did)!
