One Piece Romance Dawn Trailer Covers Luffy’s Early Adventures

Namco Bandai have shared the second trailer for One Piece Romance Dawn , their upcoming One Piece role-playing game for the PSP. Take a look at the trailer below:

Previously, it was assumed that One Piece Romance Dawn would be based on the Romance Dawn manga that acted as a prototype of sorts for the final One Piece series, causing some confusion as to the continuity this game was set in. However, this is not actually the case.

The PSP game is actually based on Luffy’s early adventures—the “dawn” of his pirate career, when he receives Shanks’ hat and so on—which is what the Romance Dawn title is meant to indicate, as confusing as that is. The trailer indicates that the game will use footage from the anime series.

Namco Bandai have revealed that One Piece Romance Dawn: Adventure at Daybreak will feature Luffy, Nami, Zoro, Franky and Robin as playable characters thus far. The game will be released on December 20th.

Is there any chance this actually comes out over here?

  • Leon_Tekashi

I do hope this gets localized. Looks fun.

  • I’m still confused with “earlier” you pracitally mean everything before Sabaody(or Thriller Bark)?

    • ChromeOrihara

I think they mean before Cobi finds Luffy in the barrel at sea.

      • Ah so with earlier they mean it’ll include stuff prior to the first episode. Alright.

So this will explain why the hell Luffy was in that barrel then? We never found out why he was in that thing in the beginning

The game is using all new animation.  Romance Dawn is the name of the first Chapter and Volume of the Manga so it indicates that the game will start from the beginning up to before the 2 year time skip.

    • Or you could say before the oh what is it the outer ocean of the grand line.

… Reusing animation stills and cut-scenes with talking squares feels a little bit cheap, but if it it’s for the original PSP and they’re banking on the license I guess it’s as good as it gets. Still, if this means we get to play through Impel Down and I get to control Bon Clay, I’ll be a happy camper.

Also what’s up with that One Piece Z? New movie? I do like the designs I could discern in those cards… especially Brook’s piratey outfit.
