mhu1aCapcom is upgrading Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for Wii U. The console version will be in full HD with 1080p resolution graphics, reports Famitsu. The game’s audio has also been enhanced to linear PCM 5.1 surround sound.

The Wii U gamepad has a screen similar to the Nintendo 3DS version with panels you can touch.

As reported earlier, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for Wii U has online multiplayer and supports local play with up to three Nintendo 3DS handhelds. You can also share save data with the 3DS version of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and the Wii U release through an app that will be released for free.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is a Wii U launch title in Japan and slated for March 2013 in the West.

1080p is to the eyes as music is to the ears. Freakin’ gorgeous.

  • SantiagodelosSantos

Doesn’t the wii one run at 360p? If so this should be a fairly large difference in terms of visuals.

    • Romored

The original Wii runs at 480p. But the difference should be huge nonetheless.

      • malek86

MH Tri scales to 360p if your console is set in widescreen mode. That explains why it looks much blurrier than MHG Wii (which runs in 480p and looks a lot sharper).

  • thaKingRocka

    Frame rate?

    • The 3DS game runs at above 30fps consistently, with 3D turned on, so I doubt this will have any trouble doing the same. Fingers crossed.

      • hongisfire

in 3DS it can run at 60fps in 3D

        • thaKingRocka

          Very nice.

      • thaKingRocka

  • Dammit Spencer, the wait for this is already long enough as it is! ;___;

  • SirRichard

I’m just waiting for the “Now you’re playing with power!” slogan to come back in the brief window they can use it.

  • ronin4life

    You know, a *picture’s* worth a THOUSAND words…^__^
I don’t doubt these words, but I would much rather see than hear(err… read)

  • gquain

the only thing i am currently waiting for is a MonsterHunter3U+Wii U Bundle.
You know, like those in Japan, but here in Europe.
I am sure this would be my entrance to the Wii U, and a darn good one indeed.

  • riceisnice

I have no idea what that means.

    • Showmeyomoves

I think it means the game will look pretty and sound good…

Yes, I’ve decided that that’s what it means.

    • Peter Le

It means your pants will explode.

    • MrRobbyM

It’s not that hard to comprehend. Higher resolution = a much smoother looking game compared to playing Tri on an HDTV.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

1080p awesome and headphones  *my ears will bleed from roars*

    • LustEnvy

Actually, not for people with Dolby Headphone devices like the Mixamp. No optical out on the Wii-U. Literally the stupidest decision ever. Optical outputs or on EVERYTHING nowadays. But then, it’s Nintendo.

      • Maybe they meant that it “supports” Linear PCM headsets.

        • LustEnvy

I sure hope you’re right, because Dolby Digital and DTS support is a given for ANY device connected to a TV nowadays.

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

        kidding me ugh!

      • Ergo

Your TV doesn’t have an optical out??

        Wii HDMI–>TV–>Optical Out–>Receiver

It’s like magic. Minus the magic.

(Failing that, I would wager there will be a cable that offers this.)

        • LustEnvy

TV’s optical outs tend to downmix to 2 channel PCM, and won’t retain Dolby Digital for any devices connected to it.

  • LustEnvy

    Linear PCM? FUUUUUU–

What device DOESN’T have an optical out? NINTENDO systems, that’s what. Massive fail on their part.

Can’t use my Astro Mixamp for Dolby Headphone gaming. Assuming the Wii-U has the option for Dolby Digital ANYTHING on the system, we’d have to rely on HDMI switchers with optical outs. Idiotic.

    • malek86

Yeah I know. It boggles the mind. Then again, it doesn’t offer an Ethernet port either, which was already ridiculous on the Wii and is even more ridiculous now, so I guess Nintendo is trying to save as much money as they can.

(note: the Ethernet is sold as a separate accessory, so it wouldn’t surprise me if the optical port were too, maybe for like $30… how nice, uh?)

Technically speaking, it is a lot more jarring than that. Your particular situation might be rare, but there are instead a lot of people who still haven’t switched to a HDMI-supporting surround system. In case Nintendo hasn’t checked, good sound systems are kind of expensive, and old stuff still works really well anyway – I know many a friends who are still using their stuff from the first 2000’s because it still sounds so good even though it has no HD audio support aside from analogic channels PCM (which the Wii U doesn’t have). For them, optical or coaxial is the way to go.

So, unless they have some kind of optical/coaxial solution ready (preferably optical which is more widespread), those people will be limited to… Pro Logic 2, I guess. Again. Talk about surpassing the current generation.

      • LustEnvy

I certainly hope its like the old Xbox 360, which had the optical port on the cable itself. If so, then I’m worrying for nothing.

        • malek86

Now that I think about it, do we know if the Wii U will actually support Dolby Digital/DTS? Last time I checked, those might require a license, and we know Nintendo doesn’t like paying for licenses. The lack of optical cable, then, might explain it.

Maybe it will be best if you psychologically prepare yourself for Pro Logic 2.

          • LustEnvy

Sigh, I can live off Pro Logic II, but at this day and age… there’s no reason why Dolby Digital and DTS wouldn’t be supported. Dear lord, please let me be right.

  • Showmeyomoves

I’m gonna need a bigger TV.

  • Domii

Pardon my ignorance, but is this game being bulid in HD from the ground up or is this just an HD remaster like some of the HD collections we’ve seen recently?

    • What your saying pretty much sums it up. And also, the 3ds version is just their way of localizing Tri G (about time).

      • Domii

So I guess this game is just a simple port with a coat of HD paint on it.

        • The addition of online alone means it’s not a simple port.

          • Domii

Let’s see how it looks and plays when some videos are shown.

          • It’s not using HD assets. It’s gonna look like P3rd HD ver. did on PS3 but cleaner since the res is bumped to 1080p not 720p and they’ll likely redo the UI. A lot of that stuff was stretched on P3rd HD ver.

It’s gonna play like TriG dunno why you’d expect to be any different.

          • Peace Legacy

When Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker moved to the PS3, it got extra online as well
…and it was still nothing significantly more than a simple HD port

        •  I would expect so. Don’t get your hopes up for a graphically impressive MH until Capcom actually shows one to us.

  • Onizuka Gio Hikari

  • XypherCode

    Great news!
I use a 1080p LED monitor for my gaming but for this baby it needs a big brand spanking new TV. :))

  • Look- I’m just gonna put my wallet down- okay?

Give me Monster Hunter, and take what you need! o/

  • DEZn00ts_1

They haven’t even shown ANY of the graphics for the Wii U version. I just wanna see if it has better graphics than the 3ds version, not just 1080p.

    • Domii

Yeah that’s what I’m waiting for too.

  • konsama

Can’t wait to see this in action.

  • Im preordering this ASAP hoping for a Collectors edition

  • YES!!!!!!!!!

  • kupomogli

1080p is so last year.  2160p or I’m not getting it. Well. I might still get it.

    • Peace Legacy

to run 2160p, the WiiU need to render 4 times the amount of stuff it would need to render, comparing to 1080p, and would only cater the minority who have expensive fancy pretentious 2k tv set
Considering even the PS3 have trouble with running a MGS3HD in 1080p (frame rate dip), which is a game in the PS2 era, having the Wii U render a Wii/3DS game (more graphically advance than PS2) on 1080p is more than good enough

  • Eilanzer

be calm guys…Remember the atrocious HD version of silent hill2/3?!…Let´s wait and see if this RLY is a good hd version…

  • Peace Legacy

Considering how the game will most likely reusing old assets from its handheld/wii counterpart. 1080p is the default expected standard anyway

    • malek86

MHP3rd HD didn’t use 1080p even though it was a freaking PSP port and the console was probably more than able to handle it (unless Sony purposely limited their PSP-PS3 conversion kit to 720p for whatever reason).

      • Peace Legacy

Well, but Peace Walker, a game that lock framerate at 20fps on the PSP, run 60fps smoothly in 1080p ANTI-ALIAS on the PS3, and God Of War: Ghost of Sparta, while 720p only, manage both 60fps, Anti-aliasing and having STEREOSCOPIC 3D at the SAME TIME (and those 2 games are widely praise as one of the best graphical achievement of the PSP). I blame Monster Hunter 720p the dev’s fault.
…and considering how the Wii-U suppose to have better graphic card than the PS3 (although slightly weaker processor), it is not at all reasonable to expect 1080p Monster Hunter port from a graphically inferior console

        • phantomx

Eh….they have confirmed Zombie U and Black Ops 2 will render at full 1080p HD at 60fps…something Ps3 and Xbox360 will have trouble staying at 30 fps at 720p.

And those games are sooooo not ports :p

So quibbling and questioning the power of the Wii U based on a port is kinda silly by now

  • I can’t believe some of you are this dense. It’s an enhanced port of a Wii/3DS games. It’s using SD assets, the resolution is in HD but the actual graphics won’t be. It’s not that damn complicated.

This is called MHTriG HD ver. in Japan. The Portable 3rd PS3 port was called Portable 3rd HD ver. It’s just an upress. Nobody complained about P3rd HD ver. graphics they were just glad it was finally on PS3. I have a feeling you’re all just gonna bitch and moan once videos show they’re not using HD assets because it’s on Wii U.

PS3 was locked at 720p and stretched some of the UI. It’s nice to know that MH3U will be in 1080p and hopefully they scale everything correctly this time.

    • Ferofax

Uhh… what? Just because you finalized your assets at a small resolution doesn’t mean you can’t keep the originals at whatever comfortable resolution you use (which is most likely 1080p). People are working on workstations when they were designing and modifying the assets, why would they limit themselves to a small resolution when they can just re-export them afterwards at the desired resolution?

At worse, they’ll need to re-work textures and sprites, but all the 3D will translate sharply on any resolution.

      • Peace Legacy

If what you said does sounds fine in theory… then, why haven’t all the HD port we have seen utilize this “Un-used higher res texture” yet?
Well, also, you might be able to change the texture to HD, but other factors like 3D model’s polygon count, is something that will definitely not translate well when run in a higher resolution (and would be costly as b*tch to change it to hd)

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

While i don’t really understand all of this tech things, it should be okay if i consider this game is going to blow me out here isn’t it?^_^

  • isfuturebright

Well lets way and see how this turns out.
