Feast Your Eyes On Liberation Maiden English Trailer And Screenshots

By Ishaan . October 4, 2012 . 12:34pm

Level 5’s “Black Box” teaser has finally been announced, and as a few hoped, the tease was for a Nintendo eShop release of Liberation Maiden, Aero Porter, and Crimson Shroud, all three of which are part of a Nintendo 3DS game compilation called Guild 01 in Japan.

While Guild 01 was released as a retail boxed collection in Japan, North America and Europe are getting the games as individual download titles. This morning, Level 5 released a trailer and screenshots for the first of these games—Liberation Maiden, which is a shooter designed by No More Heroes creator, Suda 51.

Liberation Maiden stars a girl by the name of Shoko Ozora, who is the “Second President” of New Japan, following her father, who was the First President. The game will be available in Europe today, and in North America before the end of the year.

You can view an English trailer for Liberation Maiden (and the other two games) above and read our hands-on impressions of Liberation Maiden here.

     Dat ass.

    • Julien_N

      Yes indeed. =3

  • SirRichard

It looks pretty cool, and even a shmup can’t come out of Grasshopper without even a little weirdness. “Second President of New Japan” indeed!

Going to have track down one of those eShop cards.

  • TheRealMalek

    Currently downloading it XD

  • malek86

I’m not a big fan of Suda games, but I heard some good stuff about this one. Also it looks crazy enough that it might just work.

Mmh, I guess one of the problems with eShop games is that demos are only limited to retail titles… it would be nice if Nintendo started releasing demos for downloadable games too. Then we could try some of this quirkier stuff too.

    • There are demos for eShop games in NA. They just aren’t for you lesser European folks. :P

(Actually, didn’t you guys get a demo for Marvel Pinball 3D just today?)

      • malek86

That’s true. It’s the first time though… before that, only retail titles ever got demos. Oh well, at least it’s a good sign.

(PS. from the demo I can tell you that I liked the original Zen Pinball tables better. Then again, the demo only has the Blade and F4 tables)

        • There’s DLC for ZP3D coming soon, so I’m looking forward to that. Although, I have to say… all four of those tables are so replayable that I’m still not bored of them. I don’t like the sci-fi one, but the other three are great.

        • Brian

          mutant mudds got a demo

          • malek86

Ack, you’re right too. I have missed a lot of stuff ;P

Ok, then let’s say that I wish all downloadable games got a demo, like on XBLA :D

  • shion16

    Damn now i need a 3DS.
Its a SUDA 51 game, i cannot miss it.

  • Code

“…as the 2nd President, of New Japan” YES SUDA, YES > A <~!! Seriously though definitely curious and honestly kind of pleased to see these games separated into individual eshop releases, it seems more ideal and hopefully will save a little u w u~

  • kylehyde

The eshop is going to be on fire these months. Certainly this deserved a direct from NOA instead of just a PR comunicate.

Why?! Why is there still no gameplay footage of Crimson Shroud?!
    Don’t Taze me bro

    • Liek srsly.  Liberation Maiden looks okay but I’d like some gameplay footage.  Time to go looking.

    • $29082171

This game came out months ago in japan, there should be gameplay videos of Crimson Shroud in youtube.

  • Yes! Rejoice all for we shall be Liberated this October!!! >_<

  • Zonic505

Cannot wait to get this in the US. An eShop game by Suda51 AND Level 5? Of course I’m gonna be interested! Hopefully, since EU got it today, we’ll get it later this month.

  • Göran Isacson

I’m curious now, how does Liberation Maiden play? Arcadey like Star Fox, or a little more seriously, like Ace Combat?  Option C?

    • kylehyde

This is how it plays. First footage of the western version

      • Suicunesol

The voice-acting isn’t bad. :O Also, surprising that some Japanese text is left in the game. (But I like it.)

      • Göran Isacson

I think it looked a bit simplistic until the final part, but I guess that’s tutorial levels for you. Just locking onto targets and blowing them up with little difficulty that I could see wasn’t exactly exciting, but I can hope that later levels ups the challenge.

That aside… EEEESSHH dem cut-scenes. I guess that I expected a much quicker-paced game because dear god those people just wouldn’t shut up and constantly bring up new gameplay tips, new mission objective updates, tons of “Captain Obvious” level stuff… but then again, I also guess that will lessen the further into the game you get.

In short- my expectations have now been sufficiently set. I can’t say I liked what I saw, but this could very well be a case of a game getting better the more basics you get out of the way and the more actual GAMEPLAY you get to experience.

  • Solomon_Kano

Aha! I called them splitting Guild 01 up for localization and it came true. This was the main game I wanted out of Guild 01, so I’ll be all over this.

  • Now all I have to do is figure out how to use that e-shop thing that I’ve never been on.

….are there cards for it? like the PSN and microsoft?

    • Yes, though a standard credit card should work if it’s from the same reason.

  • RadShiro

Not Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney.

  • Suicunesol

So this game is out for Europe already, and the US isn’t getting it until…? :/

Anyway, I think this is probably the best-looking and most action-packed eShop game so far. I will definitely be buying this.

  • Is it too much to ask for a TT demo?? :P

Still LM looks like a fun game. Not sure abt the rest but Crimson Shroud looks interesting too.

  • Julien_N

Whoa, available in Europe as of today? I followed the game a little bit, but I thought it would be released in NA first! Time to insert 7.99€ (Dammit, why can’t they put it at 8€ instead of using those tricky numbers, I hate those!…) into my account! =D

There is a trailer in the eShop but it contains zero gameplay footage, so thanks @kylehyde:disqus for the video link~

  • tovarichyuri

This scenarios would look much better on Vita than 3DS

    • M’iau M’iaut

Welcome to the site. In the future, please do try and give us data or examples on why such is true, rather than comments which can too easily be misinterpreted. It’s Suda, which means wherever it is, the game will look a little whacky, and it seems there are effects which might get some enhancement in 3D.

    • sfried

       How about “No U”?

  • Brandon001
  • sfried

I would expect L5 USA to also release Ni No Kuni on the eShop too.

    • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

It is impossible though considering the needs of the gigantic book there. Just played the one coming to PS3 next year. It is the same there.
