Hong Kong crime drama game, Sleeping Dogs, is getting its own zombie-style DLC later this month. Titled “Nightmare in Northpoint,” the DLC sees Wei Shen defending Hong Kong against the undead with the help of powerful Chinese magic. How exactly does this all come about? Here’s Square Enix’s summary:

Big Scar Wu was once one of Hong Kong’s most notorious and ruthless Triad gangsters. While he instilled fear amongst his enemies he equally unnerved his fellow brothers in the Sun On Yee. Growing futher our of control the Grand Dragon set out to make an example of him and had him stabbed 42 times before feeding his bleeding corpse to the grinder at the Smiley Cat food plant.

Fuelled by hated and motivated by revenge, Big Scar Wu has risen from hell as Smiley Cat, bringing with him an army of Jiang Shi. Vowing to destroy the Sun On Yee and lead Hong Kong’s most feared criminal empire, there’s only one person that can stop him. Seeking out the most powerful of Chinese magic, Wei Shen must face against the ghosts of previously defeated Triads, sending the dead back to hell once and for all.

The Nightmare in North Point DLC will be available this Halloween for Steam, Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. If you’re looking for a good deal on Sleeping Dogs, it’s 50% off on Steam until October 22nd.

I think a Zero Punctuation quote is appropriate here:

“It’s attempting to jump on a bandwagon so late that the band has completed three sellout world tours and sold their wagon to a scrap dealer.”

I do feel that horror theme in games is a very tired gimmick.

But… but jiang shi? I can’t help to shake my head and mutter; “brilliant”.

      • pressUPfororanges

At least the implementation is interesting, but I don’t know how much more zombie/vampire/horror DLC I can take.

On a completely unrelated side note, thank you for that Don Rosa avatar. It made my day.

  • Bring. It. On.

Wasn’t that Not Ping in the video?

    • Aoshi00

Good catch, I think she got kidnapped by Jackie’s ghost, creepy :)

      • Thanks. It really does look and sound like Jackie, I really don’t want to face him, but I love Not Ping more. :D

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

    Zombie Zombie everywhere lol.^_^

  • Actually pretty cool that they didn’t go with popular culture, romero zombies, but with the chinese folklore jiang shi instead.

  • ndjn3979

A great DLC idea for a great game.

  • Goncalo Rabacal

Jiang Shi are more akin to the Chinese equivalent of vampires rather than zombies but hey, whatever works.

  • Wow this is so corny it hurts…

  • Göran Isacson

… Is this dubbed badly on purpose, like… to recreate the atmosphere of cheesy, poorly dubbed  kung-fu movies from the seventies? Because if it is that is both awesome, and a pretty big risk they’re taking: you need to be GOOD when you want to suck on purpose, or you just get annoying.

  • I think its not exciting, I find it boring as well.
