Darksiders Creative Director Leaves Vigil Games

By Ishaan . October 22, 2012 . 10:35am

Joe Madureira, co-founder of Darksiders studio, Vigil Games, is parting ways with the company he helped create, he has announced via his Facebook page.

“I’m afraid the time has come for me to move on to new adventures,” Madureira shares via Facebook. “I could not be more proud of what we achieved, or the awesome people who helped build up this studio. I can safely say Vigil’s future is in very good hands, so expect only awesomeness down the road.”

Madureira was the creative director of the Darksiders games at Vigil. Prior to his role at the studio, Madureira worked on a very wide range of titles for Marvel Comics, including Uncanny X-Men.

“I’ll be talking more about ‘The Next Big Thing’ in the coming months, but in the short term, I’m focusing on banging out a bunch of comics,” Madureira says with regard to his future plans.

In the meantime, Vigil are preparing Darksiders II for a Wii U release this November. No future games have been announced by the studio yet.

  • So… No Darksiders 3 ? I can’t see it without him. Except if he takes the freelance road.

I didn’t even know Darksiders had anything to do with Capcom. o.O

  • Sam

Darksiders doesn’t have anything to do with Capcom, perhaps you’re thinking of Darkstalkers?

Man darksiders always had a special place in my heart. I even got the uber collector’s for the 2nd game but was pretty disappointed in the game. it wasn’t a bad game but it felt so poorly put together, as in they had no time, budget or something.

I was one of the minorities who did not like the loot system and the sense of progression was totally gone in the 2nd game.

I wished to see this series continue at least until the end an hope it still does.

What’s up with 2012 and everyone leaving their game company?

  • IIRC, Vigil claims that they can last for two more games as they’re given the label of a triple A game company. That better be the case now that the director is gone.

Great, maybe he can go finish Battlechasers. The comic from the 90s he abandoned that I kept waiting and waiting for and bugging the comic book shop owner as to when it would release (it couldn’t even follow its monthly release date).

I’ve read better comics since and have lost my interest in his art style…Honestly when I heard of Darksiders and his involvement initially I thought of those comic shop visits and his abandoning the comic I looked forward to the most then.

I think this is quite bad… I wonder if Darksiders will continue to be good.
