Seems Nintendo has abandoned trying to sell the Wii to hardcore games completely now.

    •  I think that is the idea with the Wii-U though

Well currently the Wii doesn’t have any “hardcore” games to be bundled with it so bundling other new games (casual?) makes sense if they want to sell more Wiis a little more alongside Wii U.

I still wonder why Nintendo still continue to promote Wii even when Wii U is just on the corner of release.T_T
While i know Wii is a highly succesful products, by releasing a product with the same brand name can easily cause brand confusion especially when many of the general consumer still consider Wii U as Wii’s add on.

Considering that 3DS already had this problem last year with DS i thought they would have learn.T_T After all they can not believe that general consumer will purchase both Wii and Wii U on holiday time don’t they?

    • XypherCode

Maybe like Sony did with the PS2, if there’s still demand for it then they’ll continue to sell it. Parents might buy these for their children if they only want to play Skylanders or Just Dance for example. :)

For the brand name, they are trying to offset the confusion with the “brand new console” in commercials and events. Unlike the 3DS I think they’re doing a pretty good job now.

But yeah I’m still worried about that ‘Wii U – add on for Wii’ thing. :P

      • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

This is the main reason of my grip here. While there may be still some demand for Wii. I don’t think that it is a good idea for Nintendo to risk or even decrease Wii U profit for Wii as there are surely some general consumer that does not care much about the difference and will go straight for the old consoles as it is cheaper.

In a way, i think Nintendo is afraid that if Wii U did terrible so they hope Wii is going to be their back plan however i feel that this strategy can just backfire sadly.T_T

    Cool bundles :)
‘Wished they’d try to bundle Skyward Sword or maybe The Last Story like in Japan. xD

I imagine that these bundles are more aimed at the parents of little kids and older folks that don’t play games often. For this group, I could see this working quite nicely.
