Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge Free DLC Will Add More Playable Characters

By Ishaan . October 25, 2012 . 11:30am

Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge on Wii U brings back dismemberment and includes more weapons in the base game. This morning, Nintendo shared a new trailer that shows off both of these aspects, with Ryu using multiple weapons to cut things to shreds:

Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge also adds Ayane to the game as a playable character. Ayane has her own chapters, but a separate mode in the game will let you play all chapters using either her or Ryu. She and Ryu can also team up in a new co-op online multiplayer mode.

Team Ninja also made enemies in Razor’s Edge more aggressive, improved AI, and upped the game’s difficulty. There are plans for free DLC as well, and Nintendo announced this morning that these will be in the form of additional playable characters, which will be revealed at some later date.

Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge will be released on November 18th in the U.S., alongside the Wii U.

They’re making DLC for this failure of a game? Why????

Fans: Team Ninja, give us more Ninja Gaiden!!!!
      TN: Here you go
Fans: What the?!?  This is the worst game I’ve ever played!!!
TN: Sorry about that, new version coming to Wii U that is super enhanced
Fans: What the?!? We don’t have that system and we all hated our Wiis!!
      TN: Not our problem.

I ran to the store to buy NGIII day 1 and was so disappointed in the game that I traded it in for $25 (essentially renting the game for a week for $35).  I won’t be double dipping until I see a Sigma edition in a bargain bin for $10 or less 4 years from now.

      • I suppose you learned a very valuable lesson that day about not blindly buying things because you like the intellectual property.

Playable Characters: Samus (maybe…), a pokemon? (   Bisharp   ) and  Sheik

    • neo_firenze

Samus… not a crazy thought, given that Team Ninja made Other M.

I think another somewhat obvious possibility would be other DOA characters (Kasumi, perhaps?)

I find it concerning that Team Ninja’s ‘solution’ to the problems with NG3 is to turn it into NG2. Don’t get me wrong, I love NG2, but it looks like they’ve scrapped any identity (Regardless of quality) that NG3 had.

    • neo_firenze

I… don’t really have a problem with not stubbornly insisting on focusing on the unique aspects of NG3 that didn’t go over very well.  Much rather have them try to do more in the NG2 style, since that’s a damn fine game.

I’m quite excited about this revamped NG3, already have mine pre-ordered with my WiiU.

yep looks like I will get the wii u version though the amount of rage this version is getting  is going to increase

  • I certainly hope the other versions get a similar update. This is a purchase I’m still regretting. I would hate to have to double dip on this one just because it’s the actual Ninja Gaiden I want.

  • DarthSithZero

Great . . . Just great every extra content only on Wii U, I really wanted to play as Ayane or Momiji in the X360 version. Now I just hope to get this on possibly a Ninja Gaiden 3 Plus on Vita (aftef S2P of course) or Tecmo will start to lose as a fan and supporter of the company

Nintendo published, so unlikely to get ported in any way…

      • Nemesis_Dawn

“Microsoft published, so unlikely to get ported in any way…”

        – What people said when Ninja Gaiden 2 came out on 360, advertised as an exclusive and published by Microsoft.

        • Okay, let’s rephrase then “There are Nintendo developers working on staff, so unlikely get ported in anyway…” Does that work? Because chances are to hand over man-power from a parent company shows a significant investment that they’ve locked in for themselves. They are also doing this with Bayonetta 2.

  • It’s like Team NINJA knew that NG3 wouldn’t be that good and add more stuff on the Wii U to make us buy the console.

  • MrJechgo

Ninja Gaiden 3: the official version ^^

    •  It’ll most likely be NGS3 if it gets ported.

      • MrJechgo

Looks more like a Director’s Cut version than a Sigma version… or like I said, the official version, because the PS3/360 version looks barebone compared to the Wii U version, as if they rushed it out of the window.

        • Budgiecat

I wonder if the PS3/360 will get a Sigma version then…

          • MoriyaMug

It had better. Or better yet, a massive DLC patch.

  • British_Otaku

Is Kirby going to free DLC? :P

On a more serious note, I don’t want more DLC in most cases.
Sure it can make games even better, it can even be free. However, I don’t want a barrier like “Wait a month and the game will get good” to be outside of the game without reason. If it’s Day One, put it on the disc. If it’s free, delay it and get it on the disc.

I’m not looking forward to digging around for the unlock key or hundreds of gigabytes of data in the future when I move system or when Nintendo’s Online system is down in the next generation or further in the future.

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

lol him in a gore game…………. YES!! OH GOD YES

  • midgard229

if kasumi is playable….i will be extremelly angry because I can’t play it

  • Awesome, can’t wait.

  • psycho_bandaid

Hm…. I wonder if I should support something like this?  I got NG3 day one and actually enjoyed it some (granted I agree that the story is terrible, the QTEs are terrible, the single weapon and ninpo is terrible, and that the game was really easy) but Team Ninja has been trying to fix it post release.

Enhanced versions of a game on a different console isn’t really a new concept, but I am still trying to wrap my head around whether or not this is a good thing.  Do I like the fact that devs are trying to improve a game, or do I think that they are really looking at their customers and going “Alright so you didn’t like that one.  We’ll use your feedback to make a better version you can buy on this new system!”

Still I probably won’t be getting a WiiU anytime soon so I guess I won’t be there.

I can see Kasumi and Hayate being playable characters for this game.

  • Cjs0511

I really REALLY want Regent of the Mask to be playable, I loved that guy in NG3. He was like the only thing that was good about the game personally

  • MrSirFeatherFang

Seeing how TN loves insane challenges, I’m going to need to find a buddy for those Trials…

  • Budgiecat

Since Tecmo has already collaborated with SEGA recently with DoA 5, I’d like to see a Shinobi DLC character add in as well as secret battle stage so we can finally have ……wait for it…..

Shinobi vs Dragon Ninja  (Lost Prophets)

  • People should ask themselves why these “free” characters are not on the disc but rather “free” DLC. The answer: tons of tons of not free DLC will follow.

  • Kasumi plz!!!

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Give Joe Musashi from Shinobi series plizzz.^_^

Or at least, maybe Kasumi? or even Momiji?^_^

  • Tails the Foxhound

Oh wow, I didn’t know it was free. Confirmed for purchase here.
