Nintendo 3DS XL Charizard Edition For Japan Looks Very, Very Cool

By Ishaan . October 25, 2012 . 11:24pm

Remember the Pikachu-themed Nintendo 3DS XL released exclusively via Pokémon Centers in Japan earlier this year? The Pokémon Company are releasing another similar Pokémon-themed 3DS XL soon, this one featuring Charizard.

Unlike the Pikachu 3DS, which had to be reserved if you wanted to buy it, this one will be a lot harder to pick up. Reservations will be decided via a lottery that will be held from November 3rd – 26th. Lottery winners will get to buy the special Charizard 3DS XL for 18,900 yen between December 15th and January 14th.

And we most likely will not see this in the west. I’m hoping we do, cause we have gotten game bundles we never thought we would see in the west, like the 3ds zelda.

    • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Don’t forget the fact that Pikachu 3DSXL is also coming to Europe there.^_^

      • chaosCrimsonX

But sadly I live in North america, and I think Europe will probably have it region locked, so i can’t play my north american games on it.

        • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Ohh sorry for you there. But i am also not from Europe here so we are brother in pain here.^_^

  • Xmas Lopez

That is so badass! It makes me so sad that I will never look upon one of these in person, let alone own one. DAMN IT JAPAN!

  • http://burnpsy.wordpress.com/ burnpsy

…I wish I could get this.

  • Anon Rickroll

What’s so special about this nerd toy? LMAO

    • Syn

      Whats so special bout you???

      • SLick123456789111

        HA

OT:It looks good , with the Gold Charizard & black bg , but I see a Pink one down there that I’d personally want more.
I think if they made it closer to how they made the Pikachu one it’d look better.

“Rare item with a limited release.” – Does that answer your question?

    • http://www.jb2x.com/wordpress/ JB2X

I smell a ban coming right up.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/5UFEVTPDTXD33NSMUFMX4TEAMQ Mike

you could sell it for some nice Cha-ching.

or if your into collecting keep it in the box.

plus it looks kinda cool(I’m not a huge pokemon fan and I still think it looks nice)

    • Grenalie

      fukkn pwned dude xDDD

  • http://www.jb2x.com/wordpress/ JB2X

    Why can’t we have nice things like this ;_;

  • Anthony Black

So you have to win the lottery… to get a chance to pay for the product…
Am I the only one who thinks that’s a bit silly? Why not just win the product itself?

    • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

I think you only here. Remember Love Plus SP? You winning the lottery just give you the chance to buy the machine there.

    • Herok♞

It makes sense because they need a fair way to decide who gets a chance to have one without them having to worry about running out or people only getting them first come first served.

    • http://simplephilistine.wordpress.com/ Arla

They did that for the Metal Gear 3DS too.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

What is with Nintendo recently? It seems every Nintendo Direct, they come out with a new special edition 3DS.

So for the upcoming ND, i can hope for Eevee 3DS?^_^

    • SerebiiNet

It’s to entice people :) To provide an extra for fans of the series who may not have the console yet

      • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

I know lol.^_^ Just being absolute jelly with this.T_T As i already have 2 3DS but these special edition keep testing me to get another one.T_T

      • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

@SerebiiNet:disqus While you’re here… we recently sourced you on the CoroCoro PMD information when it first came out, but whenever we use you as a source, I link to your front page. Is there a permalink for individual news posts on your site? Because I can’t seem to find any, and in most cases, people link back to the source article, since obviously most sites would prefer that.

        • SerebiiNet

Not yet. I have been considering working one in with the new news design I’m working on

          • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

            Gotcha.

  • http://twitter.com/ClosetTroll Leonce Bienville

this is the coolest 3DS ill never own. I’ll just customize my own, probably buy a white XL and make it mine. I’m enjoying my Zelda Edition 3DS for now.

  • noctis_nox

If only 3DS was region free. If only, if only.

OMG! A Charizard-themed 3DS! I must have it! *Reads that it’s only in Japan* FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUU

I don’t understand why Reggie doesn’t want to release more colors for the XL. I would upgrade my launch blue 3DS to a white XL if it came out in the US and give the blue one to my bro.

      • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

This is a guess on my part, but part of the reason is likely a difference in manufacturing costs/materials when it comes to these special edition 3DSes.

Nintendo are already taking a pretty massive hit from the dollar, due to currency exchange rates, so it probably makes producing these things in bulk and selling them for less of a return in the U.S. a less viable prospect.

    • Grenalie

Technically Nintendo has been doing well on getting their own games over here.

  • Godman

I’m sorry “Lottery winners will GET to buy it” Why would they torment Charzard fans just as much as they torment the U.S fans? T_T

    • Just Tim

Game Freak might as well change Charizard from Fire/Flying to Fire/Dragon…

That aside, I might as well wait for a separate case for this…

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001059050301 Jermaine Kanhai

Though, I wonder how they may ‘suddenly’ change that.
I may have an possible answer to that: next generation contains a held item that can the second type of a Pokémon with its ‘hidden type’. For example, Charizard and Gyarados’ hidden types are both Dragon, so with the held item they become Fire/Dragon and Water/Dragon, respectively. Lugia’s hidden type is Water, Zekrom’s Dark, Reshiram’s Normal and I dunno, can’t think of something more right now…
It may at least bring Charizard to UU or something.

  • MrRobbyM

Eh, I like the Pikachu one much more anyways and even that one isn’t that great. What happened to the special editions of Nintendo handhelds this gen? Last gen, with the GBA/GBA SP, the special editions were so much better looking.

I mean, you can’t even compare the Pikachu GBA SP to the 3DS one. Even the Charizard GBA SP was a bit classier looking than this.

    • http://simplephilistine.wordpress.com/ Arla

3DS has a ton, and most look better than that.

      • MrRobbyM

I’ve seen most if not all the 3DS special editions and this is all a matter of opinion. But back then I feel Nintendo put more work into these special editions rather than slapping on a logo or pattern and calling it a day. That’s why the Pikachu 3DS is my favorite 3DS special edition so far. It’s not quite as “special” as the Pikachu GBA, but it does look nice.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

     only in Japan *tear up*

  • http://epiclyamazing.wordpress.com/ AzureNova

    Gotta buy em all?

  • Ty Arnold

    It’s not just a Charizard. It’s a Shiny Charizard.

Do you know what I would give for a Shiny Charizard?

    • OatMatadoQuatro

Where are you supposed to capture a Shiny Charizard? It’s a starter evolved

      • Asura

         You get it shiny.
        Or you breed it shiny.

        (Captain Obvious to the rescue.)

        • OatMatadoQuatro

And how do you do that Captain? Random factor?

          • Eilanzer

You feed your charmander with gold nugget =P

          • http://profile.yahoo.com/5UFEVTPDTXD33NSMUFMX4TEAMQ Mike

yep random factor(tried about 1000 times in my old fire red)

            and I got lucky.

but you can get a shiny starter from oak(it just takes a really long time)

      • ParaChomp

One that has Solar Power?  It’s impossible.  Come on event that gives us the choice of 5 of the starters with their Dream World abilities and are shiny.

  • FFmax

Seems like everything is Japan only these days.

  • xqtable

No Charizard nipples?! I WANT MY MONEY BACK

  • davidqxp

    Japan has everything…

  • Grenalie

I hope we get this one since Europe got the Pikachu one, it’s the better looking of the two.

  • Elvick

Japan… why you get all the good systems?

If NA gets anything, it’s usually ugly. Only things that look good are the OoT 3DS, and the Animal Crossing one.

    I’d buy a sexy Vulpix 3DS XL. And I despise the entire idea of the XL. But I love Vulpix… and know it won’t happen. );

  • http://twitter.com/HaohmaruHL HaohmaruHL

well it’s japanese system and a japanese franchise, of couarse they treat motherland the best.
i so wish to have this system too, i hope someone on ebay would be so benelovent

  • LazuliteLiamz

    limited-limited edition.. *drools* :Q
