Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is headed to iOS and Android devices in honour of the game’s 10th anniversary, Rockstar Games announced today.

No release date has been confirmed for the iOS and Android versions of the game, but Rockstar say it will arrive sometime this fall.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City gave players the freedom of a massive open-world in one of the most iconic and vibrant settings ever realized in a game,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games.

“It was a defining moment in the series and we’re delighted to be celebrating its 10th anniversary this year with a stunning, updated version for phones and tablets.”

I’d pay for that I love gta 3 for ps2

Alas, I think a straight port of a PS2 game is not exactly a good idea for smartphones. I watched my brother try to play GTA3, it was pretty painful.

Smartphone games can be great, but touch gamepads are not the way to go.

How do you play a game like this with a small touch screen?

I don’t hate the controls, I must admit. It takes some getting used to, but they do work. And GTA is perfect for a portable device, because firing it up to drive around the city and smash objects and pedestrians on the train ride to work is just perfect.

Hell, my only genuine complaint about GTA 3 on the iPhone is the mission structure being so crappy, but that’s a weakness in the games themselves, so not really an iPhone issue.

Android can be very versatile. You could hook up an Android device to a flatscreen and play with a 360 controller.
