Nintendo President, Iwata, Plays Balloon Fight On Game Center CX

By Ishaan . October 29, 2012 . 1:50pm

Following their last Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo featured a Game Center CX special, featuring Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata, where he plays Balloon Fight—a game that he programmed in his younger days—with Arino.

In the video, Iwata also shares some insight regarding his start in the industry and how his father wouldn’t speak to him for half a year after he joined Kirby developer, HAL Laboratory, of which he later became the president, prior to moving up into Nintendo.

Diligent fans at the Something Awful forums have subtitled the video into English, and you can watch it above.

Saw it the other night.  Game Center CX should be considered required viewing / reading for most people on this site.  You should definitely take the time to look at what Gaming CX’s site and channel have and what Something Awful translates almost tirelessly.  They get a lot of GCCX out.  SA isn’t alone in the endeavor these days either in their translation effort.

    That was great :D

Does GCCX have an affiliation with Nintendo or something? I see a new bonus episode after every japanese ND.

They do.  The GCCX NC eps are strictly short episodes that appear on the Nintendo Channel exclusively in Japan.  Of course, we’re seeing it second hand on YouTube because of the subs.

Saw this last night it was awesome. The crew over at SA are great for translating Game center CX and I think a lot more people should watch it, it’s a great show.

      Agreed.

Gamecenter CX is truly my favorite Japanese TV show that isn’t gonna be anime or toku or anything like that.

There’s something very enjoyable about watching Arino attempt to clear the games presented to him, and he tries as hard as he can too! Sometimes he wins, sometimes he fails spectacularly, especially since he definitely /isn’t/ very good at games, but he has a wit and charm to him that makes his failures and successes endearing.

I bought the Retro Game Master DVD set, and I kinda hope they’ll be able to get out more episodes for personal viewing and owning. Until then, go forward, Something Awful, and continue to sub those episodes! (I really wanna see the Ocarina of Time episode, aaaa)
