By Ishaan . October 29, 2012 . 10:50am

D3 Publisher are bringing an upgraded version of the Xbox 360 Dream Club game to the PlayStation 3, titled Dream Club Complete Edipyon!. Today, they released an amusing—and embarrassing—new trailer for the game, featuring a pair of western otaku-types expressing their delight as a narrator educates them about it:

Dream Club Complete Edipyon! will be released on November 15th for 7,140 yen ($91).

Whelp, I got as far as :42. How about you all?

    • Kibbitz

      1:25 =P

    • 果林

       stopped after the guy screamed

    •  “Cool Nippon”.

    • JonathanisPrimus

    • Muffum

The “my wife” comment broke me. I feel ashamed.

    • Mister_Nep

      The whole video.

    • SirRichard

I got 12 seconds in before I had to pause and muster my strength. Then to 43.

    • Herok♞

I watched the whole thing and I am still not sure if it was long drawn out joke or a serious ad.

      • Testsubject909

    • Aoshi00

lol, come on guys, it’s not that bad, better than the creepy guy w/ the hat, sunglasses, mask, and muffled witness voice :)  It’s kinda cheesy, but quite tongue in cheek and informative.  Watch it till the end, says there’s a new Dream Club next year maybe :)

This is a pretty good bundle.. the PSP port of the first game was not good.  Dream Club is a good dating sim though, except getting good endings is not very easy for me w/o a guide.. I only got like 2 good endings for the 1st game, and haven’t goten very far w/ 2nd.. also I got the mahjong game, but too lazy to learn how to play :(..

Seriously I think Dream Club is even better than Neptunia or Idolmaster.. the girls are much more pure and cuter :)

      • I agree! (save for the imas part… ;P)

If there’s a saving grace from D3 it’s their sense of humor.

    •  I watched it till the end, and find this really creepy :x

    • Skeima

4:44…its kinda late for me to realise that i’m wasting my time

  • Muffum

Hey, wait, I live in Los Angeles. How come I didn’t hear about it suddenly changing its name to Los Angels? I feel offended.

  • JonathanisPrimus

  • Mister_Nep

    What…..what did I just watch?

  • Go2hell66

the promos for half minute hero super mega neo climax were way worse than this

looks like its turning into a trend

btw i stopped at cool nippon

  • MickyT

So this is an advert for the Japanese version of the game? Presumably theres no chance of this getting localised?

  • ZEROthefirst

I got through about 1 minute of the video and had to stop… I was this close to hitting myself with the closest object available.

  • Vitonofrio del Rosso

this is so retard I’m going to vomit..

  • Hatsuu

  • Alex Cattaneo

:(i bet this isnt importing friendly?

  • MrTyrant

    Those baka gaijins…

  • Luna Kazemaru

  • Andrew Austin

Ugh, those weeaboos are so goddamn embarrassing.

I’ve had this preordered for months.

  • ShinoZero

    Well this is awkward.

  • Fryxell

Never ever do these kind of vids to promote dating sim games. IT’S EMBARASSING STOP IT

  • I think this is about the tone that Chinese (and I think Japanese) commercials actually are (the fanboy squealing, not the announcer).  Rather, I remember watching a potato chip commercial kind of like this…

  • Revorse

This seems to be really awkward.

  • Morricane

Kimoi. kimoi. kimoi. Moe culture officially scares me now!

  • SirRichard

“(Yes, this is as embarrassing as you would imagine.)”

No, Ishaan, it was somehow even more embarrassing.

  • Demeanor

Ok, watched the full thing (something I can brag about maybe… or not), and I have at least a couple of good things to say about this video:
    – the right idiot at 02:00 made me crack up XD
    – you really can’t get more… “honest” than this regarding the target audience (although those two were really idiots, or better, were really playing the part of idiots, and that’s the only thing keeping me from committing suicide right now XD)

  • I have no idea how D3 publisher thought this was a good idea. None at all. This is an OFFICIAL VIDEO. Who had the brainwave that this was remotely wise?

    • Neckbear

Honestly, man, people need to take things more lightly like these guys, even in the official side of stuffs.

    • Ladius

As silly as this commercial is, it isn’t like they’re trying to push Europa Universalis 3 or Napoleon Total War here, nor is there a need to take this commercial in such a serious way considering there isn’t anything offensive in it.

If anything, the over-the-top silliness is a good match for Dream Club itself, and the people interested in a series such as this will probably be able to understand this commercial isn’t meant to be taken seriously and is made with a blatant tongue-in-cheek attitude.

    • coughMukiHondacough

It’s a fun and goofy ad for an audience that is WELL AWARE of who they are sometimes. Tis but a rib, and being a fan of D3, I like it!

If you want me to, I can dig up some of the promotional videos Cave made over the years.

    • CirnoLakes

      Why hello there, SpaceDrake.

Having fun outside of the Carpe Fulgur forums again I see?

Quickly, chain him, we must drag him back and make him give out the details of project 4!

  • I’ve seen some screwed up things(hell I’ve done some screwed up things) but this is just….

    Who would volunteer for this?

    • psycho_bandaid

This wad of money would like to slap you in the face, good sir.

  • darkfox1

  • Koulamatata

Those guys trolled that commercial hard. Haha.

  • raymk

After the comments below i’m not gonna even try to watch it, good looking out peeps lol.

  • Learii

WHAT!!! lol  the best commercial i never see lol

  • omeganeko

LOL that t-shirt. Has anyone ever played a dream club game with another dude and a bowl of popcorn?

    • Testsubject909

I’d be willing to if it was for a Let’s Play video.

  • What’s there to be embarrassed about? I wasn’t in the video. And I thought when the guy said “There’s more news!” it was going to have an option for english text so we can fricken play it. Why else use western otaku and move it to a region free console?

  • masaYT

stopped the video after 10 seconds…….

  • i liked it…

  • Jesse Thompson

That video was actually quite funny, informative, and it made me want to buy the game even more!

  • William Carpenter

Oh hey, cool, glad to see the Siliconera community finding work in advertising.

  • I’m not sad about the video.  I’m sad the human race has allowed this to go on for five games.

    • Neckbear

You know, the same could be said about your own…preferences. People like what they like, and it doesn’t affect you in any way, so what’s the problem?

      • Actually, it has repercussions on the entire gaming community, because the perception of Japanese games and the people that enjoy them is more and more becoming skewed to be exclusively about the moe crowd and the sort of people who want a bunch of games about feeding teenagers with wiggle boobies bananas in a suggestive manner.  Furthermore, this *actually seems to be what Japan is producing more and more of,* as developers of apparently *anything else* are busy “Westernizing” all of their franchises to hell because of western perception of things being “too Japanese” (formerly “too creative” but recently “too creepy in the pedo way”), or are hemorrhaging money because apparently without tits nothing outside of Dragon Quest can make a dime in the land of the rising sun.

Is this perception skewed? I certainly hope so.  Is this how it seems to be going down as crap like this and Senran Kagura gets all the attention lately, the latter placing *second on Japan’s sales charts upon release* with an entire selling point of “3D Jiggle Titties”?  Yes.  A largely frustrated, ashamed yes.

I can’t even pick up a JRPG anymore without worrying it’s going to flash some preteen’s bust in my face, and I know for a fact if it doesn’t say “SquareEnix” on the box it probably has a conversation between two or more girls about breast envy.  There will probably be a hot spring scene, or a “oops caught you in the shower” scene, or any number of tropey fanservice things, because apparently that’s why people buy anything from Japan now.

I want to enjoy a game like Neptunia Mk. 2 because the battle system is fun and the setting is unique, because I like the lore of the world and the gaming jokes, but I have to play it when my girlfriend’s in bed or out of the house because quite frankly the game kinda makes everyone in the room feel like a creeper as a bunch of little girls hop around in skeevy clothing, even in the censored US version that set out to downplay that because they *knew* that wasn’t something Americans were super keen on.  I have to play the game in secret with the blinds shut because I’m afraid it’ll get me on the sex offenders list somehow.  What I’m saying is, a game that could stand perfectly well on it’s own is making a selling point out of being skeevy; and yes I am aware the first one dabbled in the crude humor a bit, but it didn’t *bank* on it, which is where the franchise seems to be going, which disappoints me greatly, but I’m sure makes the people into this sort of thing really happy, so good on you.

I think Gust’s games have a gorgeous style but am afraid to even try them now because of this.  I’m worried that the future of Disgaea and NIS’ other projects will be affected by this.  I’m worried the games coming from Atlus are all going to devolve into this, and XSEED, and anyone else with the balls to try and bring Japanese games to America now, because of this weird obsession with all this moe and little sister crap that is infesting everything just to be a bullet point on the box, and because games like this that are all about it are turning a profit in a country that thinks its own games industry is otherwise dying.

That’s how it affects me, and that’s the damn problem.

        • Neckbear

This is far too into the slippery slope fallacy for me to even care. All I’ll say are two things: one, fanservice isn’t exclusive to this generation, and second, games with and without that kind of content/focus aren’t mutually exclusive; they can coexist, as the markets they cater towards are completely different.

  • Hoshi星

Wait…does that mean a localisation is incoming? Would be great.

  • Brandonmkii

So many Dream Club games, and I haven’t played one :c

  • The only thing stopping me from punching my screen whilst watching this was that I really didn’t wanna ruin it considering its an integral part of my laptop.

But otherwise… were they perhaps advertising to NA as well or somethin?

  • Eilanzer

    F.E.A.R! wtf i just see?! o.o

  • Levin_Scorpius

Wh-what… what is this…? Why does this even exist…?

Are… are they trying to make their target audience self-aware? Is that what they’re doing with this? Advertising their anime girl dating sim using disturbingly accurate depictions of the people who are going to by it? Or are they trying to sabotage it’s sales? I don’t even know whats going on here…

There… there is no hope. Only despair. Despair that comes from humanity perpetuating it’s horrors and reveling in it’s filth. I am eternally ashamed of what has become of the human race. And yet, that is not the greatest despair. The greatest despair is that you know it could be increasingly worse then what it is. A thousand times worse.

    • You should watch those Hatsune Miku Honda commercials.

  • psycho_bandaid

That was freaking hysterical (I watched the entire video), but I don’t know what the point was.  The game still looks terrible.  I doubt this will help grow the fanbase at all in Japan and if they decide to localize this they have gone nuts.

  • kool_cid414

I found this hilarious and watched the whole thing I felt that this wasn’t mean spirited but just a little ribbing. As a man who gets embarassed somewhat easily I found this just to be a funny joke and it may even mean we might get it someday.

  • Brandon001

this is a great video to use as reference to see how much you need to rethink yourself.

  • Yuriangels

hee-hee this is hentai. I love that shirt.  I want it!!!

  • Julien_N

This promotionnal video is very hilarous, and does not take itself seriously. D3 previously made some ridiculously funny trailers for Oneechanbara or EDF games and this one is just as crazy, if not even more! I like this kind of advertising which is non-standard and somewhat disconnected from the usual codes of this media. My favorite part has to be the EDF victory cry reference. %)

  • Asura

It wasn’t as embarrassing as I imagined.  It could be so much worse.

It made me snicker throughout and I enjoyed it.

It makes me happy when people can poke fun at themselves.
It makes me happy when somebody can admit that something they enjoy is mediocre or even utter crap and still enjoy it.
    So I liked this commercial.

No way in hell would I ever lay a finger on that game though, oh hells no.

  • ………………awesome, but what the hell did I just watch? O_0

  • E.D.P.! E.D.P.! E.D.P.! PS3? Well played.

    • Testsubject909

      EDF! EDF! EDF! PSV!

      Oh… oh wait, wrong article.

  • CirnoLakes

How am I supposed to feel right now?

  • I… I have no words.

    • Testsubject909

I have two to describe the people in the video:

      Forever Alone.

      • Jesse Thompson

Annnnnd, there’s something wrong with that?  Maybe they like being alone…Odin knows I’ve very little interest in “getting to know” most of society.  Unwashed masses, the lot of ye.

  • AweOfShe

30 seconds into this video, and I suddenly want to sell my 360 versions of Dream Club and Dream Club Zero, and never associate myself with this series ever again. :P

  • Hinataharem

Some sketchy looking food on that table

  • heartless141

this is girugamesh all over again

  • Juuu

I’m not typically a Negative Nancy but….Wow. That was not…good….at all. Well, I lied, the comment about “We’ll just have to wait for the yen to rise!” Was pretty spot-on but the rest….Man.

Dream C Club never sat well with me, and I don’t think D3’s done much to change it with this. :P I wonder if the Japanese find it as unbearable as us?

  • piichan

Lol, it’s not as bad as the comments say it is. No need to take it seriously, here, take a laugh.

    If only they’d release a host version…

  • how do I delete a comment?

  • Loving the response to this from real otaku who are all “HEY THAT’S OFFENSIVE, WE’RE NOT REALLY LIKE THAT AT ALL”

This is a level of trolling that more game companies should aspire to.

    • Grenalie

      Everything is “trolling” nowadays.

  • Loving the response to this from real otaku who are all “HEY THAT’S OFFENSIVE, WE’RE NOT REALLY LIKE THAT AT ALL”

This is a level of trolling that more game companies should aspire to.

  • vileBrenman

OMG that was the BEST trailer ever. that is totally like ALL the western Otaku I know. LOL

  • Hidayat246

    0:44 : YEAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! NIPON, NIPON NIPON, HUUU………..!!!!!

THE BEST STUFF from this video ^0^ yo go nipon!!!!!

  • Γεώργιος Αρχαιοκαπηλίδης

Using western otaku to promote a japanese only game? Wow!
D3 really knows how to tease (or should I say troll?) Dream Club’s
western audience, don’t you think? If you manage to watch the whole
commercial till the end consider youself a hero.
