Devil Survivor: Overclocked And Devil Survivor 2 Delayed To 2013 In Europe

By Ishaan . November 1, 2012 . 11:00am

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked (3DS) and Devil Survivor 2 (DS) may not see a European release until 2013, U.K. games publisher, Ghostlight, say on their official blog.

“I regret to report that it is looking increasingly likely that both Devil Survivor: Overclocked and Devil Survivor 2 will not be released until 2013,” Ghostlight’s Ross Brierley writes.

“This is incredibly disappointing as we were very much hoping to be able to release both titles this year, but sadly this has not been possible.”

On his Twitter feed, Brierley provides a little more insight on the subject.

“It’s not as simple as just putting our name on it and getting ratings,” Brierley tweeted to an inquiring fan. “There are different requirements which require coding changes and testing as well. In this case [Overclocked] was our first 3DS title and some aspects ended up taking longer than we expected.”

Regarding specific changes that need to be made, Brierley says that he is under a non-disclosure agreement, and so, is unable to share further details.

He also cautions on the Ghostlight blog: “It is worth noting that until we announce a release date, any dates you see for these games are unofficial and may be incorrect.”

  • Lol. Very appropriate image you chose there, Ishaan.

  • AuraGuyChris

Don’t worry, Yuzu. You’ll experience a demon apocalypse next year.

  • Lol…I honestly didn’t even know they were announced for an EU release.

  • Glad to hear some news on these titles, especially DS2. So many Atlus titles for me to pick up in 2013. :D

I’ve currently got the itch for demons since I’ve picked up Persona 2: IS and P3 in that recent sale. Thanks, Ghostlight! :D

OFF TOPIC: If Ross is lurking around here, any more news on the current statuses of DDS 1 and 2 coming to the PS store? Still looking forward to those two as well.

    • Samurai_Heart

Yep, glad there is at least an update especially in comparison to other companies *cough* Zen United *cough*.
Does anyone know how many people work at Ghostlight?
I’m just glad the game is coming never thought it was, with how many Atlus games never get publish here, :'( Trauma Team, might be forced to mod the Wii.
      Appreciate ya Ghostlight!

      • Ghostlight_Ross

Off the top of my head there’s about 15 of us

The thing with the DDS pair is that the current PS2 emulator on the PS3 refuses to play nice with them, and Sony haven’t really bothered themselves to fix it, leaving them in limbo.

      • Yeah, I heard about that. Just didn’t know that Sony can’t be bothered to try and fix it; I hope they do, because those games look awesome.

    • Ghostlight_Ross

Sorry only just spotted the last bit.  I’m afraid I’ve not heard anything more about the DDS games :(.

      • That’s alright. I’ve still got P2:IS and P3 to keep me busy ’til P4G, DS:O and DS2. :D

  • Julien_N

I am thankful towards Ghostlight for bringing the games here but does it always have to take ages with them?…

  • I always assumed Devil Survivor 2 would be pushed back to 2013, but I never thought the same would happen with Overclocked.

I’m also guessing that Overclocked is actually responsible for Devil Survivor’s 2 delay, since it wouldn’t make sense to release the sequel first. They’re probably done with it but are waiting to release Overclocked first. And I hope both release apart from each other, since I’d want to get both on release day and I’ll need to spare in between game releases :P

Either way, take all the time you need Ghostlight; My money is yours.

    •  I’m kinda glad that it’s pushed to 2013 as there ain’t that much pressure on my wallet now at the moment. Of course, I’ll buy Devil Survivor – and Fire Emblem – and Code Princess – hell yes, even Tales of Xillia, games I can look forward to next year (and hopefully have enough dough to get them or just… Bday presentz :3 #spoiledgamingbrat)

      • Julien_N

Assuming Code of Princess eventually gets released in PAL regions.
How long is it since the last time we had info about it?  =(

        •  Well, it’s kinda confirmed back in July that Code of Princess is planning to arrive in Europe, but I guess they still are searching for or negotiating with potential publishers.

          • Julien_N

I heard about it as well. It is cool to see that the JP publisher is trying to allow us to play the game, but until we have a copy in our hands, nothing can be taken for granted.
Several games such as Shikigami no Shiro 3 (Wii), theresia (DS) or Raiden Fighters Aces (360) were confirmed for a PAL release and had a publisher, (pQube for the two first, and Tradewest for the latter) but the games ended up delayed several times, then cancelled. That’s why I prefer staying cautious.

  • Tales_of_Master

“I regret to regret to report that….” So he’s not regretting anything then ? Anyway, too bad for our European friends, but at least you’re getting the game eventually, so cheer up :D

    • Elvick

lol, that’s what I was thinking too.

  • Man… Europeans have no chance, huh? I apologize for you guys missing out/ getting these awesome games so late..

  • Göran Isacson

Sad as that is, at the very least this is gentler on my wallet.

  • SirRichard

I’m not sure how to say that thing I say every time this happens without resorting to things I can’t say on Siliconera, but suffice to say I’m going to go put my head through a wall.

The delay’s not even good on my wallet, 2013 just got another two added to its growing list.

  •  Too much games for early 2013… my wallet will be sad, so sad.

  • Aaaah! What is this indeed.

  • Crok425

Is it just me… or there are only delays in Europe?
Damn… I feel really bad for the guys.

    • RablaAndrews

Nah. Nintendo of America went off the wall this year with the Great Wii RPG Trio (Xenoblade, Pandora’s Tower, The Last Story). Europe got them before America even started mentioning them.

  • Hinataharem

Atlus needs a European branch NAO

My Euro brethren deserve the games with the rest of the world.

  • Richard N

I’m sorry to hear that for all my European brothers. But trust me though guys, it’s well worth the wait.

  • Such a shame. This is why region locking is idiotic. We could’ve been playing this game back in Aug 2011 when it first came out. I’m thankful that Ghostlight stepped in to take on publishing role, but why couldn’t Atlus have some sort of deal with a euro publisher (like Ghostlight) so that they could release the game within a short period of time to the US release. Like I’ve said it before, it’s like Atlus’s world view only include US and Japan, they don’t believe in the european regions.

    • Well, the region locking only benefits the Game company.Example:Japan released Persona 4 Arena in japan,so you buy japan ver because its has english text too.A week after,th Persona 4 Arena released in America. You didn’t buy US ver because you already have the Japs ver.Region locking is ridiculous!

      • komiko12

It benefits companies that localize games. Some people don’t bother to buy localized versions because they import the games. Through this, people would be forced to depend on publishers to localize the game.

        Region locking is still inconvenient.

        • Most company that localize game sucks like Capcom. They don’t localize Hack//:

          • .hack is developed by CC2 (CyberConnect2) and published by Namco Bandai.

          • I know.Sorry to made you all confused with the last comment. It should be “Banco didn’t localize Hack//:”

          • That’s alright. :D

    • Julien_N

I think Atlus should definitely have a European branch, or at least, a UK branch. Dealing with external companies is never as sure as releasing games through an internal network.
Ghostlight does its best to release as many SMT titles here and that’s cool, but it doesn’t mean all Atlus games are available here.

Just for the last gen, I think we missed out on Knights in the Nightmare, Shiren the Wanderer (The Wii one), Operation Darkness, SMT Strange Journey, Devil Survivor, Izuna 2, Etrian Odyssey 2 and 3, The Dark Spire, Radiant Historia, Trauma Team, Yggdra Union, Hexys force, Gugnir and Growlanser.

That’s a lot, and even if some of these are free of any region lock, the current gen and the 3DS already have Code of Princess and Etrian Odyssey 4 and I am unfortunately convinced that the gap is just going to widen again. This time we won’t be able to import, though…

I also don’t get why Atlus does not seem to care about PAL regions…

      • Exactly – I don’t understand why don’t have some sort of partnership in Euro/UK so that when they’re about to release a game in the US they tell their partner about the game who gets the ball going to localise for Euro regions. That way the gap between US release and Euro release is much smaller. Heck it could be even done in parallel when the initial english version is being translated.
Other companies don’t seem to have any problems with their games, like NIS, so why does Atlus have such an issue??

        • Julien_N

          I wonder that myself…=S

  • XiaomuArisu

    Well…thats sad…
    But in Ghostlight I trust!
    Yes they can!

  • Jisgsaw

An Atlus game delayed in Europe.

    Sounds familiar…

  • l777l

Still interested. And, as is generally the case, quality over impatience.

  • Dylan Neill

Oh well I can trust that ghost light will make up for this and will release it as early and as fast as they can (looking at you zen) with a nice limited edition they always do
