Portable Sega Genesis With Mega Man: The Wily Wars Coming This Month

By Ishaan . November 5, 2012 . 11:20am

The Neo Geo X Gold isn’t the only “new” portable system arriving this holiday. A company named At Games are bringing out an “Ultimate Portable Game Player” device that is essentially a portable Sega Genesis with 80 games loaded onto it.

One of the gems is Mega Man: The Wily Wars, the only Mega Man game released for the Genesis. This rare title was only released on the Sega Channel, an online service from Sega that offered downloadable games, in North America. Mega Man: The Wily Wars has remakes of the first three Mega Man games with new graphics and the Wily Tower, a brand new area with three Genesis bosses. Mega Man: The Wily Wars wasn’t released on Virtual Console either so this game is pretty rare!

Among the highlights are: Street Fighter II: The New Challengers, Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master, Sonic and Knuckles, and others. 40 of the 80 games are Sega Genesis titles. The other 40 games are “arcade” games such as Air Hockey and Chess and Sudoku Quiz. You can find the full list here.

More games will be released for download on the Ultimate Portable Game Player, and you’ll be able to load them onto an SD card (not included with the device) that goes into an in-built SD card slot.

The Ultimate Portable Game Player will come with a 2.8” screen and a built-in rechargeable battery that you can charge with the included USB cable. If you have an AV cable (not included), you can plug the device into your television as well.

The Ultimate Portable Game Player will be released on November 13th and will cost $60.

Not bad,I might have to pick this one up.

  • Sataaa
    •  Same for Portugal, we’ve had something like that for sale for a long while now.

  • sakusakusakura_nyo

    No rpgs?  No thank you.

    • Grenalie

The Genesis doesn’t have many worthwhile RPGs.

      • sakusakusakura_nyo

You got Landstalker, Phantasy Star 2, 3, and 4, some Shining Force games, Beyond Oasis, Shadowrun, Sword of Vermillion and a few others. You and Quinton Rivera probably just don’t know about them.

        • Exkaiser

Not to mention the first two Langrisser games.

        • Grenalie

So you have a handful, the system is not known for it’s RPGs.

          •  TOTALLY disagree.  There are so many great RPGs for genesis.  Buck Rogers, Beyond Oasis, Shining Force II, Phanstasy Star IV, Shining in the Darkness are among the top dogs but there are plenty of lesser known ones like Traysia, Sorceror’s Kingdom, Exile, Rings of Power.  To blatantly say it’s got no worthwhile RPGs sounds to me like you are just anti-sega and being closed minded about it.

          • Grenalie

Yup I’m anti-Sega when my first console was the Master System and I pretty much have all their consoles.  The Genesis’ strong suit was action games, throwing this tiny list of RPGs at me isn’t going to change a damn thing.

    • Exkaiser

Apparently this thing doesn’t keep battery saves, so RPGs would have to be done in one sitting.

60$? Nice. I might pick one up sometime.

    Sonic 1 & 2, then S&K?  Something’s missing here (unless I glossed over it).

    • Elvick

Heh, watching the end credits of Sonic Generations and you’ll see that same thing.

      Sonic 1, Sonic 2, then S&K, then onto Adventure. I was like… wait a second…

  • sakusakusakura_nyo

Of course it comes with Altered Beast, one of the the worst Genesis games ever.  The “arcade” games list is just sad.  -__-

    • sibarraz

Maybe is just me, but actually I like the port of AB on the genesis

  • kool_cid414

This sounds exactly like something my sister got for my brother for his birthday. It’s basically a small sega genesis with 80 games built in with the option to play actual cartridges. After checking his box it’s from the same company. Half the game are arcade or low quality games and in the first sonic game the sound is off. Unless this is different I wouldn’t recommend it but obviously just my opinion. First time I got to play Alex kidd though so there is that.

Phantasy Star 2,3 and 4 aren’t on the list

  • I’m pretty sure that this product isn’t licensed by Sega.

    • samael789

Not 100% sure, but I think it is. Sega licensed quite a few of these.

Sega Capcom still in bed together?

    This is awesomeness!

  • Ricardo C

No Digimon Version S? Oh wait, that was for the Sega Saturn. No buy from me :B

  • A portable Genesis? I have one of those! I call it my “PSP”. Cool name, huh?!

  • Elemiel

New portable? New goddess in Neptune?

  • almostautumn

$60 is a surprisingly awesome price— too bad I’m a SNES man

  • carlospsp

I have the orange/black version here and i can afirm that its battery lasts long than 2 days, not as psp

But it does not save and the sound is not perfect. But it permits Memory card use for .bin games, i highly recommend the portable! If SEGA/ Tectoy updated the portable to have a simply use of save inside the MS and a few corrections in terms of sound, would be awesome. And I PLay Panorama Cotton on this gem!

  • Replace Alexx Kidd, Flicky with Revenge of Shinobi and Sparkster: RKA 2, then we’ll talk.
There’s quite a lot of junk games on there but inclusion the 3 Bare Knuckles games and the Wily Wars does makes this somewhat on par wiht the Megadrive Collection on the PSP.

  • CountMarth92

    portable gaming FTFW!

  • KiTA

Hm, what’s the legality of this thing?

Also:  Shining Force?  Shining in the Darkness?

Will the SD card handle… ahem… fan translated games?
