Wii U Chat Application Allows For Drawing During Video Chat

By Ishaan . November 7, 2012 . 8:00am

The Wii U will allow for video chat with other Wii U owners. Nintendo’s global president, Satoru Iwata, demonstrated this in a Nintendo Direct presentation, by chatting with Nintendo of America president, Reggie Fils-Aime, this morning.

While chatting, the two demonstrated, you will be able to draw images on the Wii U GamePad, which both participants will be able to see. Iwata points out that, since you can chat with other users without the use of the TV, you could, for instance, chat up a friend while watching a sports program on the television.

If the Wii U chat application isn’t turned on, and you get a call from a friend when you’re in the middle of a game, the Home button on the Wii U GamePad will flash to let you know you have a call waiting.

You had to put this Bromance screenshot of Iwata and Reggie up there, aren’t you?

It’s a pretty neat feature nonetherless.

Reggie appearing on Japan Direct was the highlight of the whole thing. We love ‘ya, Reggie, don’t worry. ;)

    • Gives you a real appreciation for the way Iwata delivers those long English speeches at E3 and GDC, doesn’t it?

    Now that’s cool :)

Pretty neat feature I must say! The drawing feature on the Wii U Game Tablet could be used for games as well! I think a game like the Magic Pengel series is best suited for it as Magic Pengel: The Quest for Color and Graffiti Kingdom (aka Magic Pengel 2 in Japan) was released in the West for the PS2 in the early 2000’s.

Just imagine creating your own monsters or creatures to battle against and using the Wii U Game Tablet to make them!

The Video Chat seems to utilize this well so I might use it when talking to my RPM buddies! ^_^

Those PictoChat people are going to have multiple field days with this.

So far the Wii U looks great and I think Nintendo is going a great direction :) I’m really excited to get one.
