Animal Crossing: New Leaf’s First Shipment Is 500,000 Copies In Japan

By Ishaan . November 10, 2012 . 10:30am

Animal Crossing: New Leaf went on sale in Japan this past week. While we won’t know how well it sold until we see the weekly software sales chart next Wednesday, Japanese retail blog, Sinobi, is reporting a bit of early information.

New Leaf, Sinobi reports, initially started out with a shipment a little under 200,000 copies. However, Sinobi says, Nintendo increased the game’s first shipment while watching pre-orders, to the point that the game’s first shipment is now around 500,000 copies.

That’s a large first shipment, and people in Japan do seem interested in Animal Crossing, going by comments made by Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata, so it should be interesting to see how it performs.

Iwata has also mentioned that Nintendo had to increase production of the Animal Crossing: New Leaf 3DS bundle, due to a high number of pre-orders.

Wow! I’m reading reports that retailers are already sold out though! So I guess it was under-shipped lol :P It will be interesting to know how many digital sales it has done as this is the first Nintendo game that was advertised that it could be downloaded from the Nintendo Eshop! Maybe 20k?

There’s also a 3DS XL Bundle with digital version of the game. It should be very popular.

      I got a digital copy. ^0^/

I haven’t experienced much yet… but so far it seems really great. I probably would have gotten farther if my Japanese were better…

      And, you know… it wasn’t animal crossing. lol…^,^;

  • The series is quite popular over there, though, isn’t it?  If so, it would make sense to ship out a large number of copies.  I still fiddle around on the DS game now and then, but always feel a little guilty because my time with it is so sporadic   The characters are constantly all, “Where have you been?!?”  I was busy gang, sorry… >_<

This Animal Crossing going to have biggest opening for series ever in Japan. DS one sold more than 300K if I remember correctly. City Folk for Wii sold 330K or so.

But there’s a huge difference in japanese lifetime totals – 5M+ on DS and 1,2M on Wii (1M+ on GameCube, too). Something like Monster Hunter, i mean, more popular on portable.

Based on lines (there’s a lines for the game in first day), many sold outs, especially of 3DS XL bundle w/digital copy, it’s safe to say it’s going to be a BEAST. As said on some japanese blogs, big shops already selling out carts and DL codes as well. Seems really undershipped. But with bundle and digital sales it may sold more than 600K FW. Of course it’s a new million seller for 3DS in Japan. It’ll drive the system this holiday season.

Oh Animal Crossing. You’re right there, but I can’t even touch you. Please, whisper to me a drip of your perfection. If only a little.

People actually wanted that diaper print 3DS?

  • Zetasaurus

Hit up quite a few electronics/games stores yesterday and the game was sold out at just about every one. Not very interested in the game myself but I have no doubt it’s doing well. :P

I’m enjoying this game very much, even though my Japanese isn’t very good and I have to sit in front of a dictionary.

  • VeroC11

Well, for one, it’s the first game in a long time to be sold out so early on amazon japan, and the first to remain on it’s retail price.

I’m hoping there will be a digital version for the US. Animal Crossing as a digital copy for anywhere play no matter what game pak you have in would be amazing.

All Nintendo published games going to be digital from the release of NSMB2. It was confirmed long ago.
