Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Free DLC Characters Headed To PlayStation 3

By Ishaan . November 12, 2012 . 9:00am

Back in September, a player who managed to get their hands on an early copy of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 went through the contents of the game disc and reported that he found six additional characters on it, that weren’t accessible in the game. Three of these characters are being released as free DLC tomorrow.

Starting tomorrow, Tuesday, November 13th, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will be available as a download title via PlayStation Network for the PlayStation 3. Along with the download version, Namco will also release three free DLC characters—Dr. Boskonovitch, Unknown and Violet.

Bosknovitch was last playable in Tekken 3, Unknown in the prior Tekken Tag Tournament game, and Violet in Tekken 4. Namco confirm that changes have been made to all three characters since their last appearances.

Additionally, the pre-order-exclusive characters are now being released as DLC, too. Ancient Ogre, Angel, Michelle Chang and Kunimitsu will be made available to regular players, also for free.

If only everybody else was a beast like Harada, if only if only if only.

  • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

Woo~! Now I just need an arcade stick to complete an authentic Tekken experience.

Of course, the price tags on those juggernauts isn’t an easy obstacle to overcome…

    • Istillduno

If you have access to a soldering iron, a drill and some spare mdf/wood/whatever hard material you can get your hands on you can buy a stick and some buttons for a lot less, buy a cheap 3rd party controller and hack it apart to make one for a lot less than you can buy them for.

The tech talk subforum on http://www.shoryuken.com should tell you everything you need to know to have a bash at it.

      • http://twitter.com/#!/kaishou Kaishou

I know for a fact that drakos can’t be bothered to build one.

        • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

I’ve actually considered the option several times, due to how cost-effective it is. It’s just that I don’t have enough confidence in my abilities for intricate carpentry. Especially when it also involves electronics.

  • MrRobbyM

    Nice!

What a sharp contrast to the article right before this one!

    • Luna Kazemaru

I’m honest…nevermind I don’t even want to do there. Just going to go laugh.

      • MrRobbyM

        Same.

    • gold163

BE A DRONE DO AS WE SAY

      Pre-order now!

    • Herok♞

I know a article about a game where dlc won’t matter compared to a game where dlc is vital since new characters effect the game for everyone playing online.

      • MrRobbyM

Yes, I remember that article. Something like the characters metaphorically being like chess pieces. Which is why they should be released free.

        • Herok♞

Exactly, I understand why the characters are free here and that is good business practice but to be fair to Capcom at least you can get the DLC for free
(with preorder which fans would have done anyway)and it isn’t on disc for once if it was on disc I would say its unexcusable.

          • MrRobbyM

            *Sigh*

No offense, but I just finished explaining the whole Capcom thing a minute ago in that article. Scroll all the way down to see my two cents if you want.

  • kupomogli

“Technically,” Violet was playable in every Tekken except for the third game since it’s actually just Lee in disguise.

  • KingGunblader

I LIKE THIS….. This means that it will all be on the Wii U version which comes out NEXT WEEK. oh man I’m so excited.

  • MagiusNecros

How DLC should be distributed.  Freely.

    • Luna Kazemaru

       That’s pretty funny.

    • gold163

It isn’t necessarily that DLC *should* always be free or not. There are no absolutes. We should, however, applaud Namco for what is clearly an act of good will and gratitude towards its customers, while also being wary of any content being offered as unfair premiums only towards certain subsets of the consumer base. Free is fine because free is fair.

It’s when the majority of the consumer base encourages bad, unfair DLC practices that we’re all well and truly screwed.

    • http://twitter.com/Albert36246395 Albert

Yet look what Namco had done to Soul Calibur V….

  • Juuu

A Bandai Namco game…Not charging for DLC? 2012 IS REAL, THE END IS NIGH. Hey, hey, Scamco, wanna give us some free Idolmaster songs sometime?! ;D Seriously though, this is cool. c: More characters is always good!

    • gold163

yeah, I’m pretty surprised how Namco is appealing to their western fanbases in terms of offering extra content for their games either for free or on the disc release when it wasn’t so in the Japanese versions (Tales did this, I think).

On the other hand, Idolm@ster and other Japan-popular properties are pretty much the definition of DLC overkill. The way Namco treats their Japanese and western audiences respectively in terms of DLC is sort of the complete opposite of how Capcom treats theirs… it’s funny, in a way.

    • Hidayat246

free DLC for otaku game????????? never!!!!!!!!!!!

  • XiaomuArisu

    In Harada we trust!XD
    Nice news after Vergils Downfall…literaly

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Stephen-Mc-Devitt/100002626261475 Stephen Mc Devitt

Finally! I said this because even though they’re free, these characters are ALREADY ON THE DISC! It’s just wasting time.

    • neo_firenze

So what?  Time locked or unlockable characters are no new idea, it helps extend interest in the game after launch.

This is not much different than having a character that unlocks after x number of hours played, something that has been done in arcade fighting games and home ports since the 90s glory days of the genre.  Only difference here is that the unlock is made available through DLC.

And it’s a heck of a lot better being on disc than having to download the actual content.  Less need for hard drive storage, smaller download size, etc.

  • Unlimax

    Nice move NamcoBandai !

Capcom .. Watch and learn ~

    • AuraGuyChris

Did you completely ignore Tales of Xillia, by the way?

      • Tianyu Wei

what about Tales of Xillia? It was a let down sure… but ToX 2 is incredibly well made and an apology accepted for the mediocrity of ToX.

        • AuraGuyChris

          NO! You’re doing this wrong!

You do NOT accept their apology for just one game. You keep your arms crossed and wait till they keep doing this until you can tell they have established a stream of free DLC.

          PEACE! *Bobs head*

        • Nitraion

He means in term of DLC…..

      • Unlimax

I’m talking about the Fighting games between Capcom and NamcoBandai .. really !

    • Koji Kabuto

      Don´t forget Idolmaster.

I really love those games but the amount of very expensive DLC and append discs is insane.

      • Hidayat246

        that is Namco Vision

    • Sakurazaki

      Uhhh. Soul Calibur?

    • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

I don’t suppose you’ve been acquainted with Bandai’s licensed franchise games.

❥Others besides myself heard from a high profile source , (who would like to remain anonymous for the security of her employment) , that a(n) Nintendo employee/representative “decimated” Capcom verbally in a conference for who they would allow to be included SuperSmashBros.4U , when Nintendo reps & the few Namco Bandai employees working on SSB.4U visited Capcom HQ , things turned into a(n) “Our Production & Marketing vs Your Production & Marketing” debate between Nintendo & Capcoms CMO’s.

First of all , as we all knew , Capcom tried to get their Japanese John Cena , “Ryu” , in the game , but not entirely to my surprise , Nintendo wasn’t having it. (Praise God for integrity.)
Nintendo then pitched the obvious & more senseful choice of Mega-Man (Classic for those Mega-Man fans wondering.) Capcom gave a slew of right winged reasons as to why Ryu is more prestigious than Mega-Man to their company & how Ryu’s inclusion could help sells for Nintendo. ⇚⇚⇚[Are you kidding us ? No really. Ryu would decrease sells if anything. SuperSmashBros. fans gravitate towards it for many reasons. One being that it's a get away from hardcore , competitive fighters. Smash Bros. is an Action Brawler which has always been crafted with the intention for the title to be "fun" for the masses. A chill IP to be frank. "Ryu" symbolizes competitiveness. That is "NOT" something the 99.9% majority of SSB/Nintendo fans look for out of their Action Brawling franchise. It's the opposite.]

Of course Kenzo Tsujimoto was referenced before all this took place , stating something along the lines in Japanese of “Touch not Man” to those of his employees taking place in the conference. So this was all ready decided in Capcoms mind as to not make a deal/reward for Mega-Man , that 1 IP who put them on the map. Classic Capcom.

Of course , since Keiji Inafune left , they can’t talk about the IP with a straight face anyway. At least those of the Capcom employees who respect the man & his work for the past 25 years.

But again , what was “REALLY” funny from what she told us was just how , for a few minutes at the end , a few Capcom employes were arguing how their marketing & production is superior to Nintendo’s. How they don’t have to worry about as many losses & their consumer base being unmoving.

      ║Just , hysterical to the Hi-Max║.

      Nah , but here we go . . .

❥On the subject of Namco doing disservice to their fans on separate occasions: Yeah , not as serious as other companies I know of , so people can jump off that horse right now. Does that make it ok for Capcom , EA or any other company to do it ? No. So the point in saying “he said she said , he did she did” is pointless. (Unless your making a point that your not supporting of those business practices.)
That’s like saying it’s ok for me to get caught stealing food out of someones house , when you know I’M the one who did it & it’s morally wrong. But because you like me , you’ll let me get away with it , & pin it on someone else.

We need to reset the old standard by continuing to support companies like Nintendo , Platinum Games & RevergeLabs , companies who actually give a da*m about the customer & not just their wallets. Because at the end of the day , you could have the best games known to man , but if you don’t know how to market , cater to your customers & spread out those masterpieces , you aren’t going to be happy with the results. Because you’ve lost touch with your customers & have formulated your own agenda as to how they should receive your products & how many they should receive in timely fashions known only to yourselves.

THIS is why we are seeing a price decrease in Anarchy Reigns.

THIS is why Nintendo succeeds where Capcom fails time & again. (& why Capcom is the a** end of jokes related to their issue.)

I’d be silly to say Capcom doesn’t have some key IP’s in their library (like Mega-Man , Strider & Rival Schools) , but Capcom couldn’t correctly market themselves out of a play-pin full of all the titles their fanboys/girls would eat up in a hot second upon release anyway.
I shouldn’t need to use Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 , Resident Evil 5/6 , DMC & The “entire” Street Fighter franchise as examples of how Capcom f*cks themselves over in the long run. It’s no one else but them making these uneducated moves.

People should know how companies a caliber of Namco , Square Enix , Capcom , Ubisoft , EA , Nintendo , Arc System , Konami , Nis America & Sega run by now.
You want to teach a lesson to a company you got back stabbed by ? Don’t buy any of their products.

      I’m talking games , anime , statues , key-chains , plushy’s , the whole nine.

If people can sit up here & take chunks out their day to complain , then they can quit supporting companies they are complaining about just as easily with that same amount of determination & drive.

Stop buying Namco &/or Capcom products if you seriously disagree with how they do business & if there are enough of you , you will see change in how those 2 companies treat you as a customer.
      Guaranteed.

Free DLC? If this were Persona 4, Bandai would be the Shadow of Capcom (or the other way round)

    • Herok♞

I don’t think shadows work like that.

It’s not DLC unless by DLC you mean Disc Locked Content… The funny thing is if you have a hacked PS3 you got to enjoy it before legit users :)
