Square Enix are prepping a collector’s edition of Tomb Raider on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, which is slated for release in March, the publisher announced today. The collector’s edition will include the following items (quoted from Square’s press-release):

  • Play Arts -KAI- Lara Croft figurine – Lara Croft has been beautifully recreated as an 8-inch Play Arts -KAI- action figure. The figure comes with an alternate set of three hands, bow and arrow, shotgun, handgun, and an ice axe.

  • Double-sided island map and poster – Discover Key Landmarks from the mysterious island of Yamatai, where Lara Croft and her fellow castaways were marooned after the Endurance shipwreck, in this 15” x 19” poster. On the reverse is a poster-size image of the box art that epitomizes Lara’s origin story.

  • Lithographic print – An exclusive 5” x 7” Lara Croft heavy-stock lithograph print with matte frame designed by Crystal Dynamic’s Brian Horton, senior art director, and Brenoch Adams, concept artist.

  • Experience Shields – Three iron-on badges based on the game’s experience icons: “Animal Instincts,” the “Climbing Axe” and “Fire Arrow”.

  • Tomb Raider Original Soundtrack ‘Survivalist Cut’- A collection of 10 tracks with over 60 minutes of music from the game.

  • Weapons Pack Downloadable Content – includes a variety of weapons to help Lara survive against the island’s inhabitants.

This has to be one of the worst collector’s editions I’ve ever seen. An ugly action figure, some scraps of paper, a sample soundtrack, and a cookie tin that says endurance on it. For forty dollars extra, man what a joke. Looking forward to the game though.

      Is this a joke?

        O_o
It cant be anything else this is probably amongst one of the best collectors box’s out there currently for the USA ……Otherwise someone had some hella high ideas about what they might be getting

The figure IS ugly, as is generally the entire Play Arts Kai line, but everything else looks pretty awesome to me.

Play Arts tend to do very well with Heavily Armored Beings/ Minamal Skin

        Gabranth - FFXII
Any Spartan from the Halo Franchise
Most of the Mass Effect line
Most of the Metal Gear line
        Deus Ex line
        the 2 from Vanquish
        and the Batman ones

But the more skin shown the worse they get. usually like that with most figure lines though, Play Arts tend to be more noticeable because of the larger size-play arts are close the GI:joe and Barbie dolls in size, while other figures are closer to the standard superhero one nowadays

While everything looks nice, the figure……. i just can’t get used to the new Lara there.T_T

I miss her boobs. Seriously I dont care if its her younger days she has done hit puberty give her her chest back!

      • CirnoLakes

        “I miss her boobs”
        I don’t.>:D

        Smaller chest Lara stays.

        • revenent hell

My biggest issue well in general with games is they either give them balloon boobs or barely there boobs….diversity in body size is not a bad thing and not just hight difference.
Like the best example I could use is take FFXIII and XIII-2(wether a person likes the game or not) Every female is basically the same body shape wise with different coloring.
Or take DoA or Tekken every female is basically the same body size in various stage of undress I guess.
I dont see why developers have issue giving the female charecters varrying body shapes. Its just a pet peeve. Take Tiffa from FFVII In advent children they tried their hardest to minimalise her chest. Why? Because it dosent look like every damn other female charecters in the game?
It realy wasnt my intent to tirade about this but its so pathetic, even if it was a gimmick or not,to change a charecters bust size simply because some idgits think they now look to big. This charecter is fairly well known for her bust size why change it after all these many years?
Woman naturally have different shapes why cant games reflect this now and then?

          • Symbol de Au

Her boobs look fine. If you think those are “barely there boobs” you watch too much anime.

You’re also a hypocrite for boasting diversity.

          • revenent hell

Im a hypocrite for wanting  womans body shape in the same game to be different from each others and you obviously dont know to many females outside of games or anime either because most woman dont have the same body shape.
Developers go out of their way to make charecters more and more life like yet they cant add different body shapes  to them at the same time. If a female charecter does have a big bust they then later want to reduce it because heaven forbid their charecter is not a size two and dosent reflect that to look like the other woman in that game.
As far as the balloon boobs camment or barely there it was ment in the way  of every girl in the same game will have either one or the other of them with no real change in body shape other than that in the game or a slight loss or gain of hight. Every female in a same  game will have a very slight change in hight to represent their body difference with a minimal,if at all, change to anything else.
Charecters in a game arent papper dolls and they all shouldnt have the same base figure in said game.
Compairing two seperate games to each other will probably show body difference but compairing a female in one game with the rest in that game will show very littel difference between them in body shape and size.

Yes nice try there. You asked for Lara to have a bigger chest not for diversity between the other girls in her game. This chest doesn’t match huge or barely there. If you truly wished for diversity you would have said a different sized chest not bigger which is the same as the way she was in her last game.

While I haven’t followed the game in great detail (I am buying it, I assure you; Square Enix’s published content is on a roll right now), I’m under the impression that new Lara Craft is actually kinda moe.

      I approve.

      EDIT:

      Oh yes, I want this…

More trinkets to toss into my graveyard of unplayed games.

Since we’re all sharing our opinions about the new Lara Croft, while the handling of her certainly isn’t perfect(I’m looking at you, gaffes saying “you’ll want or protect her”), I certainly wasn’t very interested in the old Lara Croft.

I didn’t find her sex appeal sexy. And I always found her to be one of the most annoying icons in the gaming industry. And honestly I would have found her a more interesting female lead character in the gaming industry if she wasn’t sexualized. I don’t find her sexy at all. So sexualizing her like that all over the place was just kind of irritating. I don’t know if that’s me being shallow that I didn’t see the sex appeal in her character, but I didn’t. And I would have rather her been badass by some other means.

I haven’t actually played anything Lara Croft since a demo for the PlayStation back years ago. The controls were terrible and I ragequit permanently.

Or put it into an easy bullet form.
    The good:
    - Lara Croft looks more like a person
    - Her boobs are smaller
    - Her face is improved and looks… well.. human
    - (Seriously, look at her facial proportions. That’s a huge improvement over the old Lara)
    - She’s wearing pants for a change. Not only refreshing, but fitting for what she’s doing.
    - Her personality and action is made realistic. Realistic female characters are something the media needs more of.
    - Survival gameplay outside of the Survival Horror genre is something innovative and interesting
    - They went for unusual survival based gameplay in an era you would assume they’re go with a “safe bet” and make another first person or third person shooter. They could have easily made the mistake of going the third person shooter route to cash in, but to make a Survival based game with hunting for food and essentials of life seems brave.

    The bad:
    - Quick Time Events
    - “The male players aren’t supposed to put themselves in her shoes. They’re supposed to want to protect her.”
    - “We put Lara Croft in a sexual assault situation. Aren’t we special? Aren’t we mature?”

It’s good enough to have me remotely interested in the Lara Croft franchise in… years. Certainly not enough for me to want a Collector’s Edition, though.

Wasn’t the “Sexual Assault Scene” dispute resolved ages ago? A pure misunderstanding I believe…
