From EX Troopers’ Cutscenes, You’d Never Guess It Was A Lost Planet Spin-Off

By Ishaan . November 13, 2012 . 2:00pm

Japanese site, 4Gamer, have uploaded a 15-minute gameplay video of E.X. Troopers, which starts out with the game’s intro cutscene (you’d never guess this was a Lost Planet spin-off) and then dives into gameplay footage. Watch it below:

This is a Lost Planet spin-off? Yep. It takes place in the same universe, and Capcom explained to us how it came about in a recent interview.

E.X. Troopers will be released for the PlayStation 3 and Nintendo 3DS on November 22nd in Japan.

    Shame this isn’t coming Stateside.

    • puchinri

      Says who? (Officially.)

      • Budgiecat

No announcements so far so it’s highly doubtful at this point that it will be…

Buuuut it IS a shooting game so theres always a sliver of hope…

      • Curan_Altea

Well they stated they currently have no plans to localize it. That could always change, but I’m not too hopeful. Real shame, enjoyed the demo.

      • Chiyou@PSO2 Ship05

It’s too anime. Do you need further explanation?

Hakuoki and Fate/Extra looks pretty anime too.

Plus, those are VN/RPN, at least it has a higher chances for a TPS to be localised.

        • puchinri

          Yeah, in that case.

      • Samurai Don

Crapcom stated that they had no plans to localize it to the west.

        • puchinri

They said they didn’t have plans at the moment and all other context of the line was in regard to a completely different series.

  • puchinri

It was a lot of fun watching this the other day, and it reminded me to try out the demo. I really hope they do more with this side of the Lost Planet series. Or, at the least, that they make more games similar to this. Everything about it is so bright and fun. It’s almost shining with the radiance of the galaxy. . .

  • Shadowman

This will make a great anime someday.

I hope you are seeing this IG/Satellite.

  • Budgiecat

Just by the initial LOOK of the game I would have never guessed it was a Lost Planet spin off. Especially since it’s hip Anime style and not Mountain Dudebro style

    • Luna Kazemaru

Clearly you never played lost planet

      • Budgiecat

I dunnot man Lost Planet 3′s trailer looked very dudebro’ish with the main character in it….and the former ones never had a bright psychedelic Space Channel 5 meets Jet Set Radio Anime look to them as this does….It def leaned more on the side of rugged shooter trying to appeal to Westerners…

        • Luna Kazemaru

You know everytime I see that word dudebro I can never take that poster seriously.

          • CirnoLakes

You sound pretty elitist right now.

            Any justification for your position?

      • CirnoLakes

You can’t be certain of that.

People mean different things by the term “dudebro”, it’s mostly a slang term for a game that primarily markets to the teen to early twenties teenage boy who enjoys stereotypical “bro” things and masculine archetypes. And the aesthetics and gameplay that entails. Usually, older men with facial hair and muscles, and the use of guns and gun based gameplay. Including adaptions of franchises that normally have many female characters, but are often subsequently removed in order to appeal to this demographic. A cultural trend in video games that can be applied to Capcom and franchises like Lost Planet. Which has in fact chosen to focus on all of these things and likely due to the success of first and third person shooters and this demographic. Some people have a very broad use of this word to describe a very broad cultural trend.

While it may be nicer to use words that don’t so obviously play on stereotypes. This is a cultural effect that Lost Planet does play into. Whether you like the wording or not, it is real.

        • Luna Kazemaru

I called him out on it because one wouldn’t be making such a statement if they played the first 2 which didn’t where nothing as which that silly term defines.

  • Nitraion

Hmm wonder Capcom will localize this….

  • CirnoLakes

Lost Planet, now with %100 more anime.

    This has my approval.

  • Syn

This game might cause “That awkward moment when the spin-off does better than the original” effect in my opinion.(It looks like a tone of fun!)

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

High Hopes they will localize this

lol…the game reminded me of LP instantly…just like an anime/cell shaded version or whatever.

didn’t know it was a direct spin off, but yeah it totally reminded me of LP.

  • Elvick

    Video is private now. ):

Anyhoo, I fear that because of this very topic we actually may never see the game. :/
