Grand Theft Auto V Trailer Introduces The Game’s Characters And City

By Ishaan . November 14, 2012 . 8:29am

Rockstar Games have shared a second trailer for Grand Theft Auto V, the next title in their open-world series of games. Grand Theft Auto V has three main protagonists, similar to Episodes from Liberty City, and you can watch the new trailer for the game below:

Grand Theft Auto V’s protagonists include: Michael (a retired bank robber living a life of luxury), Trevor (a frequent user of drugs prone to mood swings), and Franklin (who works for a scam artist that scams young children). You can switch between the three characters when you aren’t on a mission.

More details on Grand Theft Auto V can be found in a report by Game Informer. The game will be released in Spring 2013 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

  • MrRobbyM

    “Bounce. We’re bouncin’ now”

    I’m sold.

  • Alright, I’m game! I didn’t like GTA IV as much as I’d expect, but I’m definitely looking forward to this one. It has more of the Vice City/San Andreas vibe to it that was somehow missing in GTA IV, I dunno why.

  • XiaomuArisu

    Typical Rockstar…
    Hyping everthing…
And the games living up to the hype!

  • Dark_N11

    wow only 10 comments?
if this was a trailer for JRPG about 5 years old girls with big eyes , it will have get 60+ comments .. what a joke LOL

    • Alfy Masamune

    • Nitraion

LOL You like asking  “how’s the meat taste?” to a vegetarian… XD
you realize this is not youtube or IGN or gamespot right?

    • StarWarudo

      My sentiments exactly.

Anyway, day one purchase for sure.

    • Barzh

Whatever man, you’ve come to the wrong neighbourhood.

      • Nitraion

        my thought exactly..

    • MrTyrant

      Try harder.

    • Yes, come to Siliconera for all your in-depth, behind-the-scenes GTA V coverage… what are you high?

    • Grenalie
    • Well, here’s one telling you that judging the quality of game based on how many comments it gets is silly.

    • …Because not a lot of people on this site are interested in GTA5? There’s nothing you can do about that. Just because it’s a popular, high-profile game doesn’t mean everybody is obligated to talk/discuss extensively about it.

And speaking as a mod, I’d rather have minimal to no talk over a big talk of negativity and hate towards Western games.

  • Namuro

I really dig Trevor out of the three protagonists, looks like a really fun and over the top character with an interesting story to tell. He also reminds me Jack Nicholson from The Shining, now to just give him a mallet…

  • Monsley

    I can’t wait!
Now I only need to decide whether to pre-order this for 360 or PS3…

    • DesmaX

      Probably 360

Rockstar games always gets inferior ports on the PS3

      • Nicolas Vasquez

    • Barzh

If you have both systems, go for the PS3 version. The PS3 is the leading platform this time around.

      • DKL

Where did you hear about this? That’s pretty interesting.

      • Budgiecat

thats how it should be. PS3 is the harder system to develop on between the two. If they are releasing multiplat games, then create the game on the harder system to ensure it’s not a buggy inferior mess. This way the 360 version will most likely be good as well.

  • Nitraion

Okay this looks awesome… i wonder they will release wiiU version?

  • Looking good so far!

  • 1:16 Dogs confirm!!!!

  • PoSiTiV3tEnSiOn

I wasn’t so sure about the direction they were taking this in before but I am genuinely sold on the premise after seeing this trailer. Nothing like a charismatic, witty, and troubled cast to immerse you into the world Rockstar has expertly crafted.

The new, more playful and comedic approach in the trailer feels more inviting but I can sense some very dark moments lurking.

I cannot wait to play this, not just for running rampant through the city and committing obscene crimes. I’m very much interested to see how the story plays out

    • Budgiecat

In Superman Returns for 360 you can save people not rob them.

But you could also throw them off buildings and blow up their cars and throw them from 10,000 feet above

  • Budgiecat

I’m wondering why they refuse to have a playable female character in the GTA series? Now you have access to three characters…did they really had to be three fugly dudes?
Even Yakuza 5 now has a female playable character

    • Nicolas Vasquez

i do see yout point but yakuza 5 dont really make it different when the girl has a very different gameplay than the male characters, more like the  minigame filled part of the game, also gta series did had female characters in its first game.

  • SirRichard

    GOTY 2013, then?

  • I like this multiple protagonists thing. Gives the game a “Usual Suspects”-y vibe. Which is good.

Hopefully this doesn’t fall into GTA IV’s trap of taking itself too seriously, thereby sucking the fun out of the experience. Not sure these hyper-realistic graphics will help it accomplish that goal, though.

  • Göran Isacson

Looks pretty neat, I have to say. Like the humor in it, but I’m even more curious if we, out of these three characters, will only be allowed to go do crazy shit with the mood-swing guy… maybe that would be Rockstars way to enable the player to do all kinds of crazyness while still writing solid storylines? Have one character that is allowed to go around hiring prostitutes then murdering them and attacking the closest police precint with a rocket launcher, while the other characters are only playable in story sections where they can’t go around and commit random acts of massmurder?

  • Learii

i hope they let ppl change the control  layout like GTA 4 did

  • xavier axol

i’m calling it right now, this will be the most selling game of all times!. it will beat callofduty and any other generic fps, i would suggest other publisher to get their games before GTA.

  • Oh man, it looks so awesome and I’m loving the humor. xD Yeah, I definitely can’t wait.

  • D-Rev

I believed it was leaked that the game is larger than Red Dead Redemption, San Andreas combined.

-Convertible roofs can be taken off at will.
-Missions will have their own musical score (not from radios)-No girlfriends, and friends won’t spam you with calls.

    • RDR didn’t seem too big, even with all the open space, but if they can include transportation it had that works like the stagecoach then that’ll make me a happy camper.

  • I haven’t looked forward to a GTA game since Vice City (actually, Ballad of Gay Tony, but I’ve yet to try that game). I just really miss the easygoing and dark humored feel of the games from the past more than, I guess, the ‘serious’ tone they seem to have lately.
Then people say I should try out Saints Row 3, but I’ve yet to try that, too…

  • Tom_Phoenix

While I like how ambitious this game is in certain regards and that they are trying to adress some of the complaints (such as the lack of things to spend money on and lack of out-of-mission activities), I’m still concerned about the gameplay. I hope this game will be a return to form and won’t continue the direction which GTA IV took (with it’s poor attempt at realism and all).

Also, I don’t like how “cinematic” the game seems to be trying to be. Much like the games themselves, the storylines and characters in the pre-GTA IV games were ridiculous….which was fine, since they were only important in the sense that they gave the gameplay context. I fear that this game might place too much emphasis on those aspects, thus detracting from the open world experience.

In spite of my concerns, though, this could still turn out to be a decent GTA game. For now, I’ll remain cautiously optimistic.
