Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion And Myst Explore The Nintendo eShop

By Ishaan . November 15, 2012 . 8:30am

This week’s Nintendo eShop update marks the start of a few third-party retail games being made available as download titles. Leading the group is Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion, which will be available on November 18th for $39.99.

Meanwhile, available today on the eShop is the Nintendo 3DS version of Myst for $29.99 along with Hotel Transylvania, also for $29.99. Finally, you can also grab American Mena Academy for $29.99.

(Keep in mind that Myst on the 3DS plays largely on the bottom screen, so that means very limited 3D.)

As far as original downloadable eShop games go, this week’s release is Monster Shooter for $6.99, a top-down shooter that you can learn more about here.

European eShop update:

This week sees the release of Crashmo (Fallblox in Europe) on the European eShop for €7.99/£7.19. Also available as a download game is Style Savvy: Trendsetters (known as New Style Boutique in Europe) for €44.99/£39.99.

Europe also gets a Nintendo 3DS demo for Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward this week, along with Ninja Gaiden for the NES on 3DS Virtual Console for €4.99/£4.49. Finally, also available is download title, Johnny Hotshot, for €5.99/£5.39.

Are you talking about the $30 price tag? I am not familiar with American prices but that sounds really cheap. Plus, Epic Mickey looks amazing for the 3DS and is a true homage to the great game that was Castle of Illusion so what’s to complain about? o.O

(Then again I haven’t played the demo as it isn’t on the European eShop so I can’t confirm it’s actually good or anything xD).

      • Thuggin Love

Nothin much, except the fact that the digital version costs more than the physical version.

        • KHSoraKeyBlade

Ohhhhhhh. That makes more sense. Yeah the pricing for the digital stuff is pretty expensive. I don’t even understand why either.

    • Herok♞

To be fair the official retail price is $40, Amazon is discounting the game so its not a rip off.

I’m not sure what they were thinking about when they made this version of Myst. I mean, using Realmyst? Awesome. Reducing it to stills? Not so awesome. And it’s not even 3D.

Considering the 3DS could easily play Realmyst, this feels like the biggest wasted opportunity ever.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

I can only said, Myst for 3DS is utter failure so avoid that game lol. But everyone should at least try Epic Mickey, VLR and of course get Ninja Gaiden to try one of the best NES classic titles.^_^

    • Juan Andrés Valencia

Is it true that the game uses the lower screen instead of the top one? If that’s the case… then where’s the 3D aspect? And besides, the best version of Myst is RealMyst.

      • J64

Nope, the trailers they’ve shown for Myst 3DS are blatantly false. The game displays on the top screen and the cursor is controlled with the circle pad.  Even so, there is no stereoscopic 3D, the game uses 2D images.

        • Juan Andrés Valencia

           That’s absolutely pathetic.

After playing Epic mickey: power of illusion demo i’m more than determinate to get it, but on physical format of course. Too bad that this week the demo of Adventure Time: hey ice king why’d you steal our garbage was not released.

Virtue’s Last Reward demo, finally! It’s a shame I’m super busy today, but I was able to download the demo before I left home for work. I’ll definitely give the demo a try as soon as I get back home (which will prolly happen quite late at the night today :/)

I have the game preordered anyway. Can’t.wait!

  • Julien_N

I can’t gain access to the VLR demo, it is only on the UK store, apparently not in the French one…
What does it remove/change to change the language settings to “English”?

At the same time, I already know I will buy the game so I am not sure I should download the demo.

    • http://Gematsu.com/ Bruno Silva

Uh? That’s weird. I acessed the portuguese e-store and it was there, waiting to be downloaded and played to death :3

Care to recheck? I’m guessing it was a temporary hurdle, no?

      • Julien_N

I just checked it again to be sure, but the demo isn’t available in the demo menu, while the new Style Savvy game’s demo is in there. Plus, the recap for the weekly updates does not mention a Virtue’s Last Reward demo.

Moreover, I tried searching the word “Virtue” in the search toolbar and I got the trailer, but nothing about a demo.

        • http://Gematsu.com/ Bruno Silva

Yeah, I read other people on facebook saying the same thing. It seems the demo just isn’t available in some countries’s e-shop for some reason. What others did was change the country settings on the 3ds, so they could acess other european stores and download the demo.

I’m calling licensing issues on this one…it sucks for you guys :/

          • Julien_N

I was expecting the demo to only be available for the UK but I did not think it would be downloadable for other european eShops such as the Portugese one. That’s what baffles me the most, especially because France is not usually “abandonned” in such situations.
At least, I can still import the UK version of the full game, as I did before for Baroque or a boy and his blob.

          • http://Gematsu.com/ Bruno Silva

So…does that mean France is not getting this game? Is that correct? Like, no french retailers will stock up on this one? That’s…really lame. To be honest, I have a hard time believing this game will be selling in physical stores here in Portugal. Usually, anything that’s not a big, military FPS or a Football game doesn’t sell much around here, unfortunately :P We have a very tight Otaku community but we all pretty much shop for our games online, since they’re much cheaper that way.

Still, I’m guessing you guys will get the demo soonish. Perhaps next week?

          • Julien_N

I can’t confirm the game won’t be sold here, but if there is no demo it could be the case. It is not a huge problem for me since I also shop online most of the time and was planning to buy VLR through the internet anyway, but just like you, I don’t appreciate the absolute domination of big-budget mass-selling games in retail stores.

I will check the eShop next week to see if it only was a delay issue, and maybe check some stores after the release date to see whether they have some copies or not. The trailer itself is available in the French eShop so it might indeed simply be a delay.

          • http://Gematsu.com/ Bruno Silva

Hopefully its just a delay. I want this game to be as sucessful as possible in our continent so to reward the publisher for their effort in bringing this one over.

  • GaiunxWolfenX
