Action, Explosions, Huge Monsters… This E.X. Troopers Trailer Has It All

By Ishaan . November 20, 2012 . 9:00am

E.X. Troopers is just two days away from its Japanese release, and Capcom have shared a final trailer for the cooperative anime-esque shooter. Check it out below:

Additionally, Capcom also released a lengthier training video with more footage:

E.X. Troopers is set in the Lost Planet universe and stars a protagonist named Bren, who aims to be the top Gingira prototype Vital Suit pilot on EDN-3rd. He’s joined by a cast of supporting characters like Luan, Teekee and Chris who will join him on missions that you can play cooperatively with other players.

What’s interesting about E.X. Troopers is that it has developers with an impressive resumé working on it. In the role of producer is Shintaro Kojima, who was assistant producer on Monster Hunter Tri and a planner on Freedom 2 and Freedom Unite. Meanwhile, serving as director is Yasuhiro Anpo, who directed Resident Evil 5 and was software engineer on Resident Evils 1 and 2.

Finally, penning E.X. Troopers’ story is Dai Sato, who worked on Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Eureka Seven. The game will be released on the PlayStation 3 and Nintendo 3DS on November 22nd.

And yet capcom won’t localize this game in the U.S. or Europe, this is the type of anime fodder I feed off of capcom pleeeeeeeeeeassse give me this one thing I beg of you.

  • In the bottom video, it looks like computer controlled teammates enjoy standing in bad stuff.  Still, a very stylish game.  Makes me wish more games went for this kind of aesthetic.

  • Domii

Judging from the demo, I can say this game will be an absolute blast to play. That’s why I don’t understand why Capcom doesn’t localize this.

    • Luna Kazemaru

Because every game doesn’t have to be localized?

      • SerendipityX

True but isn’t this (a little) based off Lost Planet? And its a shooter? Though maybe the fact that its anime-ish completely ruins its chances at localization.

        • malek86

Although they say it’s based on Lost Planet, the completely different aesthetics probably make it difficult for fans to relate.

        • Luna Kazemaru

I don’t even think LP pulls that much in which may be why they changed it for 3 just because its a shooter really doesn’t mean a thing lol because there are many shooters that bomb in the west. Also yes it looking anime and ridiculous(in a good way) does hurt sales.

          • SerendipityX

Ouch, the truth hurts. You’ve stabbed my hopes to death Luna. T_T

          • Luna Kazemaru

Look I don’t like it as much as the next person but hey :/

          • Not to mention fear that the LP fans may flock to this game for safety while totally ignoring the release of…. Lost Planet 3…. :(

      • Domii

True. But being that this is actually GOOD, I wouldn’t see any other reason why it shouldn’t be localized. Especially since crappier games have come over.

    • puchinri

We don’t know for sure that they will or won’t, but I certainly hope that they do.

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Ugh, damn my school and work for taking up my time. I wanna play this so bad but I guess I gotta wait for december.

  • Tell me again why Capcom decided a 3DS and PS3 version was an intelligent business decision?  There’s a missed opportunity with CrossPlay on the Vita.

    • Luna Kazemaru

Because it being on the 3ds gives it a better chance of selling I really do not see what’s so hard for people to understand here that the vita has been moving like a slug in sales as of late.

      • You do understand that people were saying the exact same thing a little over a year ago about the 3DS, right?  The Vita hasn’t even had a Black Friday or Christmas rush, you can’t judge a game system’s sales proper until a year after its release date has passed.

        • The difference is that 3DS had system-sellers announced for it on the very same day as the device was revealed. And then more system-sellers announced for it in the next three months. The Vita hasn’t had a single system-seller announced for it in a whole year.

I know we remind people of this often, but do keep in mind our rules regarding complaints about what console a game is on:

          • Elvick

        • In any case, companies apparently aren’t seeing PSV as a healthy platform to invest in for the time being. That might change in the future, but E.X. Troopers came out before that future, so there you have it. They can’t just sit around and wait for a good time on an uncertain platform when there are two other reliable platforms available to release their “ripe” product on.

Besides, who’s to say Capcom won’t release updated versions in the future, or even a PSV version?

        • Luna Kazemaru

Name me one game that is making the vita a seller that isn’t a rehash or a port  other then GR. Now name all the sellers that are making the 3DS strong. I rest my case.

          • Elvick

I could, but you clearly want to see what you want to see.

Name all those “strong 3DS games” released before Mario Land 3D and Mario Kart 7 came out.

            Oh right.

    • Suicunesol

I imagine that if it does well on PS3 and 3DS, Capcom might make an enhanced version for the Vita. Capcom doesn’t want to invest so much money into a game on a platform that isn’t currently selling well… same as any other company.

    • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Umm…… 3DS is the best selling handheld/machine in Japan currently. And PS3 is also another strong consoles in Japan that had become the main streams of consoles games.

How can this not become an intelligent business decision? Vita is currently not doing well and CrossPlay i believe for Japan is not such an important feature.

      • Elvick

I think the intelligent business decision is to tack on a Vita port. It’s not like 3DS/Vita hasn’t been a pairing before (sometimes including PSP in there too).

Can’t cost that much more to add the Vita to the list, and it would allow anyone who prefers it to the 3DS to have it. Plus, then people could import a handheld version without needing to buy a Japanese 3DS.

  • Nitraion

Capcom doesn’t approve to localize anime game?

  • Shadowman

This game will be great if it was localized.

  • Bloodios

This trailer has everything… except the international release dates ;)

  • Dolly

    importing c:
it’s not even that expensive for the asian edition n-n; + shipping.
it has cutscenes but they’re really cut in like comics v.v; and i’m betting someone will put translations up for them.

they don’t really make up the bones of the game, the gameplay imo does. there’s nothing that really needs to be translated in terms of mechanics that hinder it from being easy to pick up and play/understand the controls. flying round on a jetpack shooting things with a bunch of friends is just ridiculous amounts of fun.

    •  So if it is import friendly there isn’t any harm in me considering importing the asian version sometime…

      • Dolly

it’s pretty import friendly yes n_n. most of the trophies are even all about just scoring highly per level. collecting costumes/all weapons (kind of in an arcade fashion).

you can tell the specs of a weapon as it has a little screen on the side with the power/speed output, but it doesn’t really matter which you pick as they all do different things and it becomes about personal preference.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Well, as ussual. “Hope” that this game will do really well in Japan and allow Capcom to consider bringing the game here.^_^

  • awesome game…

  • Kevin Lor

I would buy a PS3 for this game! So please localize this game!!!

  • Göran Isacson

I truly wonder if all those characters that are featured in this trailer that haven’t been featured in previous “story-mode” trailers are just going to be extra skins, or if they’re actual characters with their own stories. Because I have to admit, I really like some of the designs and wish they would be more than just extras.

  • The trailer was good and I loved the music too. =)
I would buy and play this in a heartbeat. Certain games give me that I really, REALLY want this feeling and this is one of them. It looks great and has that overall this is going to be a fun game aura. Anime-esque E.X. Troopers for the win! Please localize this. I beg of thee =^_^=

  • neo_firenze

By the way, you can get this game fairly cheap. I got the Asia version from Play-Asia for $49.90 including free (slow economy) shipping.  It shipped today.

That’s cheaper than a normal priced US release, $59.99+tax.
